I just like lumping you together with 6th Street as a poster.

Also don't think I didn't see what you did there. I look forward to one of the 4-5 obvious posting candidates to point out that Oregon didn't play Georgia this year. We should take bets.

No, but Taj Watson did.

Meh. All those teams that play Georgia look alike.

Don't be surprised, if a new bill in California allows student-athletes to be paid for namesake, there may be an "uptick" of transfers out west...

This actually more than likely kills the college football on the west coast if the rest of NCAA doesn't follow suit.

Gotta think big. If all Pac-12 states agree to this and the NCAA doesn't budge, then the Pac-12 should be willing to leave the NCAA and have an 11 game round robin for their championship and allow full compensation for players. They already have a network in place and watch how fast every 5 star player gets interested in Pac-12 schools if that's the only place in the country where they can get paid.

It's a pipe dream because the university presidents don't have the balls to do it, but it's a power play that could work.

No one on the west coast cares enough for the Pac-12 to go rouge and it's not like the rest of the country would all of a sudden become super interested.

The rest of the country's interest is when all the top recruits are headed that way. The end goal is to force NCAA change, not stay independent forever.

Being paid under the table is one thing. Sponsorship deals with EA Sports or Nike with your face and name in advertising is something else entirely.

Unless the Pac-12 is offering six figure bonus which the Pac-12 doesn't have the fan support to do they won't attract the talent necessary to go rouge and have an interesting product.

Also, from a selfish perspective this would be the best possible system for schools like Texas. Programs with huge followings in marketable cities would be more desirable and valuable as landing spots for the top talent. Local sponsorship markets for programs like Texas would dwarf those of competing teams.

That's the only reason this kind of system might have a chance in the distant future, eventually you have to think power brokers would figure that out. Being a big fish in a big pond would be significantly more lucrative than being a big fish in a small pond.

Have you listened to a texas aggy football radio broadcast?  Underestimate the combine dealership advertising budget at your own peril.

For fuck's sake it's spelled rogue.

You're missing the point of the bill entirely. It's not about the schools paying them directly, it's about sponsorship deals. That's why I mentioned EA Sports and Nike.

And all of those players would be deemed ineligible by the NCAA so either the schools go rogue or the or the PAC-12 is dead with out the Cali teams. And even if the Pac-12 went rogue it would be dead with in a few years if the they can't play with the rest of CFB. The Pac-12 is already struggling as is, they would loss the Play Off, The Rose Bowl, Bowl Games, and OCC games their exposure to the rest of the country would drop off.

Carrington followed him. Rumor on the Bama boards is he's pissed about the lack of playing time.

This transfer portal is going to be hell for coaches. 5 stars are gonna want out if they aren't starting year 1.

EA Sports & the PAC 12 network are nationwide.

If you're sitting in a room in Pennsylvania or Tennessee or Florida and you're playing video games all the time and the best players in college football are all on the video game you're playing as well as on TV, you're going to probably watch to see how your favorite players are doing. It will be the major league of college football and everything else will be minor league. Are you sitting around wondering when your favorite AAA baseball team is going to be on TV? or are you occasionally watching an MLB game, because that is the highest level in baseball?

But most NFL rosters aren't made up of non-4 and 5 star players. For casual pro football fans, college football is the minor leagues. Most of my NFL-only friends barely watch college football. What's the point when half the players on your favorite pro team come from schools you have barely heard of. California is already one of the main feeder states for NFL players (and not all of those who make the NFL leave the Pac) and still no one out West watches college football. College football fans watch their teams and the Pac has the lowest number of alums that are college football fans. Texas fans haven't moved on to only watch Bama or any other semi-pro SEC team, we watch Texas games. I haven't watched a Pac game in years, even if most of the best HS players went to the Pac I still wouldn't watch.

If the Pac really made this move they would get killed. They lose all their connection to the rest of the country. That alone will likely steer a lot of blue-chippers away even if they could make money out West. I am also not sure what good investing corporate PR dollars in an 18-year-old LB from Pennsylvania will do for a company in California. Also no bowl games and no playoffs would knock off a large amount of the Pac's media revenue. I doubt they would get any immediate large gains on their T1/2 TV contracts until the networks see proof that their closed league actually has an audience.

Probably should move the discussion over to the realignment fiction thread.

Maryland would be the logical choice. It seems to me they could more likely guarantee him a starting role.

Maybe coaches should ask for raises for the added responsibility of dealing with the portal.

Rewatching the highlights for this guy, he seems to slip past the front 7 unseen and unnoticed, almost as though he’s playing against Texas in the early 2000s. /Sproles and Griffin nightmares

Unless 4 conferences (or 5), decide to form their own autonomous league, independent of the NCAA...
Waiting for the decision in the Alston case could be a slight game changer in how athletes are compensated on the record books...
