Dallas Cowboys 2026 Offseason Thread: All in for one more win

Featured Replies

and with the 12th overall pick the Dallas Cowboys select......another lineman named Tyler

I feel like a 3rd straight losing season is incoming.

Back to .500? So another tie? Yeah sure, why the fuck not.

Oh, yeah. 17 games. Hmmm.

This team will be lucky to get a winning record with this schedule. They may not win a single road game outside of the Giants.

2026 opponents

Dallas Cowboys

Home: Giants, Eagles, Commanders, Cardinals, Jaguars, 49ers, Titans, Buccaneers, Ravens

Away: Giants, Eagles, Commanders, Texans, Colts, Rams, Seahawks, Packers

Not really sure what you could have done better with this team as the die was cast years ago with the personnel decisions. The best avenue after trading Parsons (absolutely the right move as I said then and was proven when he was hurt) was to commit to the tanking so you can get a QB. George Pickens was a grand slam move and the defensive moves at the deadline were nice, but too little and too late and wholly unnecessary for long term planning and success.

We need to think of a future without Dak and Ceedee. Cutting Diggs was awesome.

NFL teams change pretty dramatically year to year, but that schedule does seem tough. Jerry’s unwillingness to invest in DL or OL will continue to haunt this team. Dak won’t be able to win games by himself- and I know he’s a punching bag, but he played great this season

Playing the Texans, at Houston, when they are as good as they have been and can possibly be, and while we're still led by a senile cunt who is incapable of improving the franchise. It'll be their own Super Bowl, and we'll get crushed like a bunch of bitches. It's inevitable. Fucking die already Jerry and take Stephen with you.

Jerrah has that first slated for a fair catch specialist or a windy day ball holder upper.

Either can be named Tyler.

It will be over by game 16, so both of you are correct.

The thing is, trading away Michah and trading FOR Pickens doesn't make sense in a tanking strategy. Then they doubled down on stupid by trading away a good amount of draft capital for Quinnen Williams. They don't have any real strategy, it's week to week shooting from the hip.

he tries to invest in both OL and DL in the draft all the time. he just fucking sucks at it.

I’m sure Jerry and Stephen will nail this hire! They’ve completed their performance review and determined they’re doing great! Schotty can sit in the corner and watch since he’s head coach in name only and just there to be a pathetic yes man.

4 defensive coordinators in 4 years. Definitely the mark of a winning franchise.

That’s the point tho isn’t it? He will pay skill positions 100 million but expects the line play to be good with guys on rookie contracts. He’s never been able to manage the salary cap and he’s too stubborn to hire someone who can

Maybe, but firing Eberflus had to happen. Dude was completely shit.

Well yeah but the next man up will be a no name nobody else wants or a retread nobody else wants (like Eberflus himself). Even Quinn was a retread with few options and caught a little success (before shitting all over himself in the playoff game) and will be on the retread market again soon. There’s no hope.

Correct but the fact we hired him in the first place shows how clueless this front office is. Chicago fired him for a reason. I never bought into "oh he's a much better DC than HC". Nah, he's trash.

But beyond that, there is a big personnel problem on defense. A new coach isn't going to completely solve this. This will never change until the front office decides to take positions seriously they never do, which is the entire interior defense. Jerry loves building outside in and we are always weak up the middle.

Completely agree. Coaching and scheme aren’t enough to make up for the lack of talent and experience on that side of the ball. Don’t worry tho - I’m sure Pickens will get paid

I am on the fence about Pickens. Great talent for sure but we've seen at times why Pitt traded him away. If we re-sign Pickens, we are going down the path of the Bengals plan. Load up on offensive skill players and cheap out on the interior on both sides. Bengals have a ton of good WRs but maybe the worst defense outside of ours and their OL is terrible. Ours is better but isn't that great.

I feel you need to choose between Pickens or Lamb. No idea the differences in their contract or if you can even trade Lamb at this point.

Who’s on the plank next (by that I mean new hire?)

Pickens monster. But would rather have a dominate LT for next 10 years than have a Pickens

Eh, Clark and Williams are at least an attempt to rectify that.

Now draft ILB, DBs and OL…

We can tag Pickens, right? I'd much rather do that than pay him $100m+ on a long term deal.

Yeah, that's the one thing I dont like about this move. Defense can take some time to develop, but historically bad means someone's gotta go.

Harbaugh

Probably the better bet. And you can always tag and trade if the right offer comes along.

He was a total Jerry hire. He hasn't always been total dogshit as a DC, but he's got one way, and it's outdated, and definitely doesn't fit what he had to work with. He made efforts to change that showed some improvement, but just kept falling back into his old system habits. He got his year, there are some way better candidates available now. Last year there wasn't the abundance.

Throw Shotty's shit on the curb outside The Star and make Harbaugh HC. Oh wait, he'll have offers from owners who aren't egotistical morons by dinner time. I'm sure there's some unqualified dipshit down the hall to slap a DC title on.

Hate to disappoint you, but it won’t be our Super Bowl….

30 years of futility. If we could only figure out the root of the problem during those three decades.

The new DC is either going to be the current 3rd assistant safeties coach, whose dad is an old drinking buddy of Jerry's and has just been waiting for his chance

OR

some dude who's like 78 years old and coordinated some top defenses in the late 90s but has spent the last 15 years fishing at his vacation house

At the time of the trade deadline the season was shot. They probably could have secured a 1 for Pickens at that time by a contender.
