Has the bloom died on this Kubica experiment? He was supposed to help them develop the car and maybe act as a suitable driver.

The car is still utter shit and he is a rolling chicane. Might be time to cut him loose unless he has irreplaceable sponsors.

Picture is pretty big but interesting stuff here.

Sainz moved up 11 spots!  As an admitted noob I'm guessing that has to be relatively rare.

Yeah McLaren is really coming on. Sainz probably could have taken Gasly for P7 as well. He was gaining on him by about half a second a lap & had pulled within about 2.5 seconds until he picked up some front wing damage and started to fall back, almost losing out to Kimi. Lando was strong all day. He had a great start but eventually fell back to sixth. After that it seemed like he was only doing what he needed to do to just stay in P6 as there was no point in overstressing the car, engine, etc in a futile attempt to get to P5.

I don't think the car is his fault, but yeah, he hasn't done too well. His money was what was supposed to help the car the most. Seems like it hasn't been put to very good use. Williams is an utter clown show & they need his money. They're just trying to remain on the grid at this point. I don't see them letting him go until they can replace that $$. And what good would it do anyway? It's not like a driver change is gonna move that car way up the grid - unless Russell actually sucks too. Russell only finished 18th.

There are reports from some, including Kubica, that the car isn't the same as George's, but who knows. There was a guy posting pics on Reddit yesterday showing differences between the two cars, too, but didn't they swap cars a few races ago or somesuch? I'm a big fan of Kubica, but I think his arm & hand are just limiting him too much now.

Williams should try to regain their 2014-2015 low drag car philosophy. Sure you lack downforce and suck balls on most circuits, but maybe do somewhat ok at places like Austria and Monza, etc. Use that Merc power while you have it.

Hell, maybe they are so lost they can't even do the low drag thing right at this point.

And yeah, Kubica seems past it sadly.

Rossi has been fairly adamant that he does not want to go back to Europe and that he has more fun in Indy.

But if Red Bull did call he would have to be insane to not at least hear them out.

But it'll be tough for Red Bull to get anyone truly top tier because they will know going in that they are signing up to be #2 behind Max.

album of some pics from the race if anyone wants to see.  mix of phone and camera so not in order.

wasnt planning on attending but colleague offered last minute tickets.  general admission, instead of covered seating, which is bad idea since it was sweltering.  too fucking hot to find a suitable spot -- settled in north side of track, with minimal views of actual track, so we actually used binoculars to watch the TV (ridiculous, imo).

hence not too many shots of actual race, but they had an airshow before that with vintage and modern planes which was worth the attendance alone.  private airport nearby so private jets were also landing during the whole ordeal.  bond promotion so also display of all of the famous, actual bond cars.

dutch fans took over the race (allegiance was more dutch than actual red bull...) and they swarmed the track like zombies afterwards.

good experience but between hungary in august last year and this one, im done with summer races.  next one i attend will be in better climate or from a box.

This may be what you're saying, but it's not whether or not they have the money, it's that they don't have anything more productive to spend it on in the preparation to sell their product.

Theranos had enough money to sponsor an F1 team at one point. Maybe they should have.

I believe they have the money. It's just a matter of where they got it. How does a company that's never sold anything and isn't even ready to sell anything have the money or the need to sponsor an F1 team?

In other words, it sounds like money laundering or some other scam imho.

Oh Grosjean.....

FP1, spinned out exiting pit lane destroying his front wing.

karun: wow.

edit: spun the car, drove the wrong way down the pit lane, got back to a place where he was safe, then decided to leave the pits and drive around the track, leaving bits of car everywhere.

may reintroduce refueling:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-motor-f1-britain-todt/todt-wants-to-see-a-return-to-refueling-in-f1-idUSKCN1U72BG

they've already expressed that they want the cars to be as quick but the engines less expensive (particularly by getting rid of the MGU-H), and the only way to do that is to have refueling.

I'd be for it esp if we could go back to circa 2008 car sizes. They are land yachts at this point.

Yeah he left that up and posted this. So fucking weird. At best, this is an incredibly poorly run company. At worst, it's a money-laundering scheme or a massive deception of company investors.

A man who looks like this either has no money or all of the money.

Based on practice and qualifying the only hope is Leclerc if you don't want a Hamilton win. Leclerc consistently put in the fastest times on the mediums. Bottas can pull a fast lap out of his ass sometimes but I don't see him beating Hamilton in a full race at Silverstone.

Maybe enough laps will be on medium tires to give Leclerc a shot.

In the long runs, Merc was 1/1.3s faster on mediums than RB/Ferrari respectively. They were routinely 15-20kph faster through Stowe and Becketts.

Tire wear has been a problem for everyone, but Merc have been the best there this year.

Binotto himself stated that the reason they are starting on soft is because their pace isn’t where Merc’s is, so they need to try something else (the opposite of Mercedes), and see if they can make it work.

But, anything can happen.
