Texas recruiting notes 2019

Recommended Posts

you are right per Joe Cook's participation tracker, Okafor is a DNP for the first 3 games
other non-freshmen who have 3 DNPs: John Burt, Shane Buchele, Toneil Carter, Josh Rowland

Rowland likely never touches the field beyond warmups, Burt may be trying for a med-shirt or something, and TC is on transfer watch even if he does see the field at some point. Of course Shane will likely play at some point when Sam inevitably gets his bell rung..

Is this like saying, with all due respect, right before saying something disrespectful?

Perhaps, but the catch had nothing to do with the competition, so I was serious about not taking anything away from the catch, but Cactus Shadows just don't instill much fear. Now, the Cactus Needles on the other hand...

E.J. Holland: Previewing an important recruiting weekend for Texas

Texas is set to host several recruits for its huge clash against TCU this weekend. Here is a full breakdown.

Offered Targets

OL Jaylen Garth, Port Neches-Groves (2020) — A teammate of Texas quarterback commit Roschon Johnson, Garth is one of the most intriguing players in the state next cycle. This is a guy that added 30 pounds to his frame and increased all his weight room maxes by at least 100 pounds in less than a year. Garth visited Texas in the summer and is excited to make his way back to Austin. Texas is considered the early favorite, but he is also high on Alabama and Texas A&M.

DL Alfred Collins, Bastrop Cedar Creek (2020) — Texas extended an offer to Collins shortly following his unofficial visit for the USC game last weekend. Collins is making his second trip in as many weeks, and it appears the Longhorns are surging in his recruitment. Collins’ mother played basketball at Texas, so he has ties to the university. Texas A&M is considered UT’s biggest threat in this recruitment.

DL Landon Jackson, Texarkana Pleasant Grove (2021) — Jackson has been labeled a heavy Texas A&M lean early on. He has family ties to the university and has been there several times. However, Jackson is making his second trip to Texas in the last three weeks. He was fired up about the offer, which came shortly after the Tulsa game, and has been in frequent contact with the staff since attending the East Texas satellite camp this summer.

S Lewis Cine, Trinity Christian Cedar Hill — The most important visitor of the weekend, Cine is ready to see Texas after having some transportation issues last week. Texas has always been a dark horse candidate for Cine, and the win over USC moved the needle in his recruitment. A victory over TCU and a strong visit could give the Longhorns even more momentum in this recruitment. However, they will still have to fend off Georgia, which is set to receive a visit next weekend.

ATH Kelvontay Dixon, Carthage (2020) — The brother of freshman Texas running back Keaontay Ingram, Dixon is a frequent visitor and has actually attended every home game this season. The Longhorns appear to be in the lead early on, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him jump on the train sooner rather than later.

Commits

QB Roschon Johnson, Port Neches-Groves — Johnson was the first member of UT’s 2019 class and has remained completely solid to the Longhorns. This will be his first visit to Austin of the season.

QB Hudson Card, Lake Travis (2020) —Card committed to Texas over the offseason and is locked in with the Longhorns. He is working hard to get other underclassmen to join him in Austin.

TE Jared Wiley, Temple — One of the more intriguing prospects in the class, Wiley is completely solid to Texas and is set to be an early enrollee. He picked the Longhorns back in May.

DL Peter Mpagi, George Ranch —Mpagi committed to Texas this summer, shortly after picking up an offer from the Longhorns. He grew up loving the Longhorns and is thrilled about playing for his ‘dream school.’

On the radar

RB Ja’Kobi Holland, Tomball (2020) —Holland is an explosive back that should see his recruitment rise. He holds a UTEP offer.

OL Ty’kieast Crawford, Carthage (2020) — Crawford is currently committed to Baylor, but a Texas offer could change things.

OL Gavin Byers, Colleyville Heritage (2020) – Byers holds three early offers and should see his list continue to grow.

DL Tiago Sumbo, Katy Seven Lakes (2020) — Sumbo is a massive defensive tackle with an early offer from Louisville.

DL Sawyer Goram-Welch, Longview (2020) — Goram-Welch holds an early offer from Louisiana Tech and is on the radar.

CB Latrell McCutchin, Austin LBJ (2021) — A four-star prospect, McCutchin could be in line for a Texas offer. This will be his third visit of the season.

CB Kavian Gaither, Waco Connally (2021) — Gaither doesn’t have any offers early on, but he is a prospect that will rise.

I know this much, @TrojanPrincess says that USC players and fans are in love with Clay Helton and what he’s bringing to the program. Recruits are said to be totally vibing with him, so I’m sure Bru McCoy is going to remain super enthusiastic about playing for him there.

Would still be a shock if Bru did not commit to USC, hasn't changed.  He did like Texas, tho.
