  2. Shut the fuck up with this stupid ass shit. I’d enjoyed the small reprieve of you banging that shit ass drum over here. Why don’t you head back to the sports version of the cloak room known as the football board and peddle that shit over there? You and Art Briles can get together and plan some rapes and chart the future of Texas football on the back of some napkins.

  3. I am a Christian and I try the best I can to set a good example, but fuck this virus. On April 22nd the music minister from my church in The Bronx passed away alone where he lived at in Harlem. I did not want to ask what he passed away from when I got the call from one of my fellow singers in the choir. I was told though a few days ago that he had Covid and was telling everyone the day before in a Zoom meeting for the choir (I missed this meeting and regret it now) that he was beating Covid and he would be back one day singing and leading us in worship when we could go back to church. He was gone the next night. Gary Samuels was a great human being with a powerful voice. He sang in over 30 countries and had tributes paid to him from around the world online because of the impact he made on people through singing. He was so kind to me and he gave me some materials to learn how to play the keyboard so I could, in his words, take his place and give him a break one day. I remember I told him one day during rehearsal that I couldn't hit a high note and that my voice was just naturally deeper. He could hit ALL the high notes and he tells me "Yes you can you are just being lazy". He was right on that because I was being lazy. I hope when we can all gather again that we can give him the homegoing he deserves. If you happen to watch it the saxophone player also plays at my church every Sunday morning when we are able to go. I remember seeing him perform at Showman's Jazz Club down the street from the Apollo back in February and I felt something tell me I would never see this man perform again. Sad that that is the case. Fuck this virus, fuck this stupid ass worthless president for being the cause of people like my music minister dying because of blatant inaction and fuck every last one of these idiots on here and around the country who keep supporting a completely sick piece of shit like Dotard. HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. He cares about himself and that's it and everyday you keep supporting him you are enabling his behavior and will forever be a part of this and are as guilty as he is for what is going on. A lot of us have lost friends and family members because of this clownshow in Washington and enough is just enough.

  4. I had posted on a couple of threads last week about knowing people who had contracted or died from the coronavirus. I'm glad to report that the one I was most concerned about has recovered and was released from the hospital yesterday. I was worried because she's 89 years old and has various health concerns. She's a two time cancer survivor so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she beat the rona. That old gal is as tough as shoe leather.

  5. Left my little NPR mask-wearing Hobbit village to venture into the generic wastelands of the Birmingham metro's Shelby County (which is the Eohippus to DFW's Clydesdale.) The general consensus seems to be Pretend The Virus Away. I owned the only mask within 10 miles. Prove me wrong. Brought back 1960s memories of folks blowing cigarette smoke on their kids while the never-used seat belts stayed mashed down in the seats. But of more immediate concern was the driving style. Normal distracted driving had turned into agitated Ben Hur Ramming Speed maneuvers. If you ever kicked open a fire ant bed on a 100 degree day, that was the vibe, if you can imagine them looking down at little fire ant phones while they run around. Sat outside the Widget store my buddy runs, because I'm a fucking loser who tries to buy local. Bunch of geezers going in and out, little confined store, no whiff of a mask. If I were a weaker personality type, I would have left mine off too so they wouldn't make fun of me, and dart in and out, Pretending It Away. But I am a fucking asshole crypto-redneck who likes chaos and mayhem, so I strapped it on and sauntered in. Besides, I mentioned they were geezers, so if we had gotten into it I could probably have taken them. No worries, everybody polite as I sported the only mask in town. Figured they'd be bitch-asses and talk about me after I left, same as I am doing about them now. Really thinking about becoming one of these gotdam weenies who buys everything online.

  6. First, that's not accurate, John Roberts says "Hi." Second, Congress did that, not Obama. Third, that is a obscure constitutional defect. Finally, it's one thing. Trump pushes the envelope on the Constitution nearly daily, with his own actions. And his actions strike at the very structure of our government as laid out by the Constitution. A general belief among Trumpers is that the Constitution somehow prohibits anything socialistic or SOCIALISM!!! I am annoyed as hell with the ACA, my ox is gored by it and it's a real bastard piece of shit piece of legislation. But I give Obama credit for trying, in the "I'd piss on a spark plug if I thought it would do any good" sort of way. And, apparently, ACA does some good for po folks, so that's nice. If we had a functional right side of the aisle and executive, ACA would have been a catalyst for a more "compromise" and effective solution.

Of course medically I'm still following every precaution but for personal life we are all like let's fucking go and live a little. If you asked those in the great depression...hey 1% of you will die but the economy will be back. They'd all be like fuck yes.

  10. Russia.... A nurse in Russia was suspended from the hospital where she worked in Tula, 100 miles south of Moscow, after she arrived at her shift in the all-male coronavirus patient wing with no clothing save for her skivvies under her transparent personal protective equipment. The unidentified staffer told her managers at Tula Regional Clinical Hospital that she was “too hot” to wear clothing underneath the head-to-toe vinyl gown, which protected her from contracting COVID-19. The incident was first reported by a local news outlet, the Tula Pressa newspaper. Now you can all go back to talking summer camps and corsets.

  11. My friend, stories like this come out several times a week. They shouldn't need to be used by an opposition party to have negative impact. They are self-evident atrocities that don't even register as tremors among the cult. For decades, I've watched politics and seen devastating stories have no impact on the faithful. I've never seen such a volume of negative factual information flooding out over the airwaves ever. You have Christians who happily contort themselves to fit Trump and Christ together as a happy, logical, virtuous entirity. You have moralists of every sort embracing a man actually far worse than they accused Clinton of being. Nothing matters. Or, better, nothing changes minds. We see the stories and get angry. The cult ignores the stories or attributes them to never Trumpers and pussy lib socialists. We don't have discourse. We have an intransigent bloc of hateful morons and grifters banded together in a logic defying cult. No news story spun by an opposition party is going to sway them. We know that. I feel your pain. I share your pain. I don't have any expectation that any story will sway the Trumpists. He's collaborated with Russians. He's caged children. He's defended Nazis. He commits political suicide every week. And he remains.

  15. Even if this Q poll is an outlier with Biden up 11 points, the fact is the incumbent president is polling in high 30s/low 40 right now. Trump is deeply unpopular. Stop worrying about the MAGA/GOP idiots and how loud/numerous/powerful they seem to be online. It's fool's gold. All Dem energy should be focused on voter turnout.

  18. Just a reminder to you parents out there - NEVER give your kid quinine or any other malaria drug without intense supervision by a physician and pharmacist well schooled in travel medicine. Our family was stationed all over the world when I was young. The one bottle of pills kept under lock and key was the quinine-based malaria drugs because it was a kid-killer. Don't poison your kids just because Trump and some people want HCQ to work for Coronavirus.

  19. Republicans' bullshit is exhausting, because they expect us to pretend to believe they're serious, because so much of the media always does. But we don't actually have to pretend that Immortal and his idiot friends give a shit about Biden's kid having a job. Rich peoples' failsons getting jobs they don't deserve is the entire fucking goal of Republican politics. Trump put his fucking son-in-law in charge of our federal covid response, resulting in the actual theft of emergency supplies from those who need it and the deaths of over a hundred thousand Americans. Does anyone think Immortal gives a shit about that? Of course he doesn't. Immortal and every other person who peddles this nonsense is a dishonest piece of shit and they deserve to be pelted with garbage every time they venture out into public.

  20. This is an absurd take. The difference between Colt and Sam alone completely invalidates any comparison of the two. The 09 roster was better. Whether it’s talking about needing to win or getting negative recruited because of a lack of draft picks, it all comes down to the same thing. Herman and Co. need to put it all together this year and have a good season. If that happens, then we’re going to have some high draft picks and a lot of guys drafted overall. All the negative recruiting will get completely undercut if we just win this year. Plus, a lot of programs have invested a large amount of time into their negative recruiting pitches against UT. If UT answers those questions, then we’re gonna see a wave of recruits come in. If not, then we’re fucked and the only question will be whether we rip off the band aid in 2020 or 2021 and for the third time in 7 or 8 years we’ll be talking about coaching searches, transition classes, and holes on the roster because of all the attrition.

  22. There's so much bullshit out there I stopped trying to educate people on most of the garbage posted. Apathy sucks but at first you were able to provide some good info and show people where not to look. Now it's such a clusterfuck you don't know where to start. It's pretty deflating as a physician trying to do the right thing. I didn't even have the energy to shit on Moderna's terrible study that sent stocks to the moon yesterday. Of course, I am human and did get a good laugh out of the crash back down today. They fucking spoke out of their ass when our dumb fatfuck of a president assembled a round table of 'experts' on when a vaccine could be manufactured by. I should have been in that god damn thing and said I already have one made of HCQ and clorox bleach...a proprietary blend. I just need the 4 billion to get it to the masses. I'm fairly certain I'd have been given some serious funds. Then when nothing pans out...make like Trump himself and ride the next grift. As long as someone in your company can stomach kissing his bloated ass, you'll always be good to go. Anyways, fuck C19, but fuck our dipshit president even more. At least C19 may force his morbidly obese ass to the sidelines, or grave. He sure as shit isn't going to do anything about C19.

  33. This is a no brainer man- send her to camp. Worst case scenario is she gets sick and that’s a high high high likelihood of not being any big deal. If you are concerned about her being a vector just quarantine her for 14 days. Or test her- not super expensive and more or less available anywhere now aren’t they? Don’t overthink this. Kids weren’t made to be shut in, the risk to her is infintesimally small, and you can go back to quarantine when she gets back to not be a vector. Or test.

I mean, other than me being married to a pastor and having served in a leadership capacity in multiple Christian organizations over the past 15-20 years, and being the product of a christian education from kindergarten through high school, sure, I'm an atheist. OR -- alternatively -- I'm a Christian who sees what people are doing in the name of "Christianity" and realizing that they have nothing to do with each other.

  39. I know the China narrative is super-fun and all....but from what I've read, the major point of origin for the NYC outbreak was Europe (mostly Italy). It wasn't travel between NYC and China that hit NYC -- it was travel between NYC and Europe. That is, even "shutting down all travel to China" at that point would have had little effect. Once a virus breaks containment, it can come in from any number of vectors.

  41. I've gone over this a lot in my head trying to decide. I think the offensive scheme and stuff won't be that different from what the guys have been doing, so scheme-wise I don't think there will be a burden on the team or the coaches. On defense I think we will see a much more basic defense and guys will suddenly look a lot faster than they did a season ago. The biggest learning curve will be the players trusting themselves and there's not a lot the spring game would do for them that wouldn't still remain a question mark. So overall I don't think scheme is going to be as hard to change as it sounds. Getting simpler and letting athletes be athletes is a quick change (see Michigan last season, or Greg Robinson fixing the Texas D mess in 2013) The offense clearly would be better served to have WR figured out better than it will be. Same with RB. I think both of those could be visible and painful growing pains. Overall I think the biggest downside will be that it will take the staff a while to find the right rotations of complimentary players, and it will be much harder for them to trust the FR (and to a lesser extent the RS FR) so some of that will have to shake out in the first 2-3 games. I think we'll be FAR better fighting through growing pains than we'd have been with the previous OC/DC by a LARGE margin.

  42. That article doesn't accurately summarize the state of the science nor the individual results it reports. For instance, the Iceland study did not, contrary to the article, find a general prevalence of 13.3%. Rather, the 13.3% was for "targeted testing" (i.e., people with who were symptomatic, had recently traveled to high-risk countries, or had contact with infected persons). Thus, there is going to be a heavy selection bias for people who were more likely to test positive. The same paper also references a general population screening where between .6% and .8% tested positive (there were two general screenings, an open invitation portion and a random population portion). Spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the Icelandic Population The California antibody tests it cites were pretty roundly criticized for flawed methodologies (self selection problems), mathematical errors, and for reliance on unreliable tests. Experts demolish studies suggesting COVID-19 is no worse than flu. It also doesn't include New York's efforts, which indicated that the prevalence of the virus is under 13% for that heavily hit state. That also suggest an IFR floor for the state of ~1% (x10 regular flu) based on known NY deaths. (19.45 million * 12.3% = 2.39 million infected. Reported NY deaths were at 24,000 deaths on May 2nd when results announced, which, divided by 2.39 million = 1.00% CFR.) NY results

  43. I agree with Tex. I think practice and whatnot is really important, and no doubt we're going to hurt. But the defensive scheme is supposed to be simplified and more fundamentally based, so hopefully it's pretty easy to pick up. Additionally, I'm not sure Yurich and Herman were that different fundamentally in scheme and whatnot. So outside of a few pages here and there of new plays and formations, I'm hoping the big uptick offensively actually comes from scouting opponents, situational playcalling, and marrying talent with the best plays. In other words my optimism on offense comes directly from hopefully having a full time OC who isn't a fucking playcalling retard. I will add that defensively a big drawback is for the players to not have a chance to practice and improve tackling in a manner that doesn't result in 1-2 separated shoulders or concussions a game. Ash was big into Rugby style tackling I believe. That could be an issue for us.
