She left because she fucking hated the experience. Then they basically panic and hire someone who’d left and throw money and title at him in order to make the problems go away. These dumbfucks cannot help themselves.13 points

I was at a charity event last night. During the auction, their was a football signed by Herman and the team and a basketball signed by Shaka and the team. They were auctioned together for a couple grand. The winner went up and got the football. He looked at the basketball and said “keep it.”11 points

The fact that Trump cheats at golf is well known, but I was honestly surprised to read that he fucks with other players’ balls. I don’t know why I was surprised, as it completely fits everything we know about his character, but the idea of someone fucking with another player’s ball on the course isn’t something that had ever occurred to me as something that even the biggest asshole on earth might do.9 points

I don’t agree. Their defense sucked against the spread. They almost lost to Louisiana Tech and the Ole Miss team we smoked by 33 on the road. They would have played offenses like that every week in the Big 12 Also, even if they run the table in the Big 12. That means Alabama doesn’t have a loss. And they ain’t getting in over an undefeated Notre Dame and an undefeated Alabama. No fucking way.5 points

I think he probably used that bolded part to justify making his no obstruction conclusion. He should have deferred to Congress instead. It was not Barr's determination to make. And as an AG appointed by the subject of the investigation, who got the job in part by arguing why the President's actions could not be obstruction, should have been recused from any decision regardless. This reeks of impropriety and subversion of justice. I ask: what precedent are we setting here? Presidents can do whatever they want to interfere in an investigation that they are the subject of, so long as it's mainly done in public and there's no "underlying crime" directly implementing the president when such crime is narrowly defined? Everyone should be outraged at how this process has unfolded. The attack on the rule of law continues.5 points

Born in Lubbock. Still have Grandma and lots of family there. Other large cluster in Austin. Everyone is Tech/Texas/OU but it all started in Lubbock and I’m fucking ecstatic. Means so much to the people there. Hope Beard stays. Either way, win this one and even if he leaves it won’t sting too bad. So tonight, Guns Up!!5 points

Yes, what a wonderful leader. Her government has an official position called Chief Censor. Her government is threatening anyone with the shooter's manifesto on their hard drive with ten years in prison. Her government is threatening anyone who posts the manifesto on the internet with fourteen years in prison. Just last year her government was promoting legislation forcing visitors to New Zealand to give their cell phone passwords to customs officials as a condition to enter the country. She just finished taking guns out of thousands of gun owners hands who had done nothing illegal with them simply because one nut job did something illegal with theirs. What a wonderful beacon for individual freedom and freedom of expression. You jackasses deserve the dictator you are begging for. None of you leftists understand that the more power you give government the more ability you give government to misuse and abuse that power and the less power you have to do anything about it.5 points

Wow. Quiet part out loud. I’ve posted here about my dad and how he’s a full blown Trumpkin and mainlines Fox News and garbage on Facebook 24/7 since the 2016 election. I was talking to him tonight and he brought up Auburn making the Final Four. I mentioned that I don’t really care for basketball - I’ll watch it but it’s my least favorite sport. My dad proceeded to actually say “Yeah, I don’t watch it either. Not enough white guys playing for me.” After I sat on the phone in absolute stunned silence I told him that was a disgusting and racist statement and he sure doesn’t seem to have a problem with all the black players on the Alabama football team. I then told him I know I cannot change the backwards thinking of a 69 year old man but if he ever says anything like that around me or my kids then he better be prepared to never be around us again. He tried to say it was a joke and then got defensive and started to call me too sensitive. I cut him off and told him I was done with the conversation and to put Mom on the phone. After I hung up, I cried. He NEVER said such things before 2016. He’s ultimately responsible for his own behavior but it’s not a coincidence that the escalating racist rhetoric from conservative echo chambers online, Fox News, and the president and his party dovetails with his change in behavior. He’s my dad and I love him but I have lost all respect and admiration for him. And that really hurts.4 points

but it's not selective-- it's a specific, easily identifiable time frame ("since WWII") and a specific achievement threshold it would be selective if it was "since 1973, which isn't a year anything of note happened but what a great year from which to count" or "since 1971, not counting 1999-2011" or some other fucked up timeframe4 points

If there is evidence in the grand jury interviews that implicates the president in a crime or sub-criminal conduct against American interests, the public has a right to know. Given the public importance, Barr should be working to facilitate a process to allow at least some members of Congress an ability to review the full the report. Instead, he appears to be treating this as any other grand jury matter subject to 6(e). I don't think that is right. And I do not think the democrats are the ones acting in bad faith here. Again, the public has a right know, through Congress if necessary to protect sensitive information but there must be public oversight. Barr's letter, listing four grounds for redaction and suggesting that Trump is going to let him making privilege claims on behalf of the administration suggests there is going to be an effort to suppress as much as possible. That is not what the situation calls for, and many are rightly skeptical of Barr's intent. If this was a democrat president, republicans would have impeached him or her already. Hell, they still want to lock Hillary up three years after Comey cleared her. Now, who's acting in bad faith?4 points

Luckily for us. If you don't think the left wouldn't try to ban speech opposing them on grounds of hate speech if they could you haven't been paying attention to this country's political landscape. If there was an ingredient label on a box of totalitarianism the first two ingredients would be suppression of speech and disarming of the public. That is exactly what New Zealand has done in the last month. I don't want a leader of this country to be unable to do these things because the leaders of the country 240 plus years ago understood the tendencies of government. I want a leader of this country to be unable to do these things because they understand the tendencies of government.4 points

So for those of you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for an update on Toothless, the furniture re-upholstery guy who closed his shop in possession of a bunch of my wife's shit he was supposed to fix... after multiple phone calls to him that went straight to voice mail including a threat from me to call the police, my wife leaves one *last* message for him saying something to the effect of, "We've been friends a long time and I can't believe you would take my shit and not even return my phone call, don't make me call the cops, etc." The dude shockingly finally calls back. Even more shockingly, last week he finishes up the chair my wife was obsessing the most about and delivers it. He's still got a bunch of her shit -- an old loveseat that folds out into a bed, a bunch of fabric, another chair and who knows what else. I'm not home when he brings the chair, but my wife decides it would be a good idea to write him a $250 check for the finished work and he "promises" to get the rest of the shit back to her. Me? I wouldn't have given the sumbitch a nickel until all of my shit was fixed and back in my possession, but what do I know about stuff like that? But the worst part of it all was that Toothless drove up in a brand new Cadillac (RIP Joe Strummer) and my wife has been wanting a new car for awhile now. So that sent her over the edge that Toothless has a nicer car than her. So I'm out $250, more future headaches from Toothless, more cash, and probably a new car in the next month.4 points

You keep looking at this through the purely legal lense while ignoring the very real political coverup. Because protocol dictates a sitting president cannot be indicted, the law cannot hold a sitting president accountable, only Congress can through the political process of impeachment and removal. Mueller has satisfied his duties and finished his work product. He likely didn’t indict be because 1. Protocol 2. he wanted to lay out the facts before Congress and the American people. He wasn’t required by law to write 400 pages but he did. Why do you think he did that? Legally, his report could have been one page, “no charges to be brought and here’s why.” The AG is actively working to conceal and delay the contents of Mueller’s work product from the American public and Congress while very deliberately putting his own political spin on it which happens to be favorable to the man who appointed him just a month ago. Because the only way a sitting president can be held accountable is through a political process, Barr is putting his big fat thumb on the scales of justice by warping public perception prior to the public seeing the underlying facts. While all this might be “very legal” it is not “very cool” and we should not have to tolerate it.3 points

A whole lot of beige in that crowd. I won't deny that Austin is segregated but I will argue that it's mostly based on income. If you live in NW Hills, that was your decision to not live among the middle class. For my part, I live in 78745 (Baja South Austin, if you will) and interact with folks from a wide variety of backgrounds on a daily basis. Hell, my neighborhood was once a Freeman's Colony and, as a result, there's a pretty healthy Black population around here. And I don't live in a ghetto. According to Travis CAD, I'm the single occupant of a $350,000 home while one block over there are multiple brand new $750,000 green energy homes with driveways full of Teslas. Someone mentioned the Census's American Fact Finder earlier. According to the Census, Austin was 48.6% Anglo and 34.5% Hispanic in 2017 (also, 7% Black and 7% Asian). I'd argue that isn't exactly "lily white" from a factual basis. Moreover, I've decided to start riding the bus downtown to avoid the hassle of commuting and can tell anyone willing to listen that my white ass bumps up against a very diverse population on a daily basis. If you live in Austin and are under the misguided belief that this town is "lily white," you're doing it wrong and are only self-selecting by income to avoid living next to middle class "poors" such as myself.3 points

I agree with this. I'm going to need to see the paper before I can really comment. Those are some sensational claims. He's going to need some pretty sensational evidence. Even if he actually does have an impact, it's going to be tough to tie it directly to the Chicxulub impact. Many of the important conclusions from this are going to rely on his field notes and mapping of things as they were excavated. He's going to need excellent field methods, mapping and notes to support that claim. I assume Steve Brusatte has seen an advance copy and I agree with his comment that if DePalma is claiming to have dinosaur fossils from this deposit, it is extremely disappointing that the paper apparently doesn't mention them. It's irresponsible to talk to the press about them if he has no intent to put them in the paper. Given he mis-identified turtle bone as dinosaur bone in a previous paper, we need to see these "dinosaur" fossils to make sure they are what he claims. They would be a very big deal. If they're legit, they're the highest and therefore youngest non-avian dinosaur fossils ever found. I'm very skeptical of this claim. given the fossils aren't in the paper. It doesn't sound like he's being very transparent so far either. That's not a terribly good sign.3 points

Caddox, functional alcoholics are the worst because they never get honest, they can stay in denial forever. Like being in no man's land, a stalemate. The big book of AA has a good description of the progression from average normal temperate drinker, to the hard drinker, to the alcoholic. Might be worth a read. Based on what you posted, I'm thinking heavy drinker. Get some consequences though (health, relationships, legal, financial, or just feeling like you've got a hole in your soul) and that might change. I'm a believer that alcoholism is defined by consequences. I shared in an AA meeting tonight that I did not want to stop drinking, nor did I actually try to stop drinking. I just became convinced, because of the consequences that were piling up, that I would soon lose my life if I didn't do something about my drinking. Woke up in the hospital and just knew the jig was up. Very grateful I identified with the similarities of most everyone I met in AA. Diablo, you ever become unable to recall what it was like just call me and I'll recount some of the conversations we had when you couldn't stop drinking. You're a miracle, buddy. So proud of you. You getting sober was such a joyous occasion.3 points

Why is it anyone's fault that his inner circle all lied about their Russia contacts and many of them were convicted of improperly lobbying for foreign governments, including governments pushing Russian agendas? Why did Donald and his kid lie about the purpose of the Tower meeting? Would any person with a brain not want to investigate the whole thing in light of the two sentences above? Why does the retard right traitor club still disbelieve that Russia attacked our election, like the traitor-in-chief does?3 points

Sipping a shiner in the hotel. This place is scary. The Jason's deli is more like a Aggie shrine than a restaurant. Upon arrival at Science fair we are met with aggy smarts. Event is being held inside the hall of champions. Daughter said it was the best place on campus since it is so empty. Yep, it's empty of aggy accolades for sure. There are a few corptards wandering around clicking their heels like good Goering-ites. And lots of waddling going on. But of course they did leave the shrine to their messiah. More than a couple of eyes watched me as I went close to pay homage. Pretty sure this last picture was filmed by them and they are searching campus for the perpetrator. best part is person who took it went to A&M Corpus and within 1 minute of meeting him he made sure I knew he was not aggy.3 points
