No, I actually don't wonder why it hasn't been overrun, because I know why it hasn't been and will never be overrun by that crowd. It's because over the past 15 years or so, in one form or another, under one domain name or another, we have been dealing with trolls who are worse than any Qanon or Trumpkin idiots. These trolls have a name. We call them aggy. And while aggy has fully embraced Qanon and Trump, they are far worse than any typical non-saggy Qanon or Trumpkin, because they suffer from the biggest case of Little Brother Syndrome that has ever been witnessed in the past 3,000 years of recorded history. They have fucking songs about us, that they sing while squeezing their nuts and dreaming of jizzing in a jar, so they can put it on top of a rickety pile of wood. When you've been exposed to aggy like we have, your non-aggy Qanons and Trumpkins come across as temporary specks on the windshield of life. Trumpkins will fade into the woodwork when he's gone, and Qanon is already cracking under the realization that many of the "leaders" of the leaderless Qanon are just using Qanon to make some easy money. But aggy is proving to be eternal. Those fuckers live on pork rinds, Dixie Chicken, and the notion that by riding Alabama's cock, they are somehow better than us, but they will never overrun us, no matter how many dozens of times, or even hundreds of times, they spam the shit out of whatever forum we follow.15 points

Y'all joining in and dog piling on Hugo plays right into the hands of our disingenuous Trumpublicans and helps them discredit him. He definitely posts a lot, but it's usually informative and it's always truthful. We need more posters that bring useful and accurate information to fight the constant right wing gaslighting.15 points

Look closely at this Google Map image of central Austin: https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3056644,-97.7481265,388m/data=!3m1!1e3 In the center of it, you will see a thin band of green trees surrounded by parking lots, hospitals, and 38th street. If you look even more closely, you'll see the Seiders spring. Every day, thousands of people pass by or work near this small band of oaks ---- known as the Seiders Oaks ----- along Shoal Creek, oblivious to their history. Shortly after construction of the new capital city at Austin began in 1839, Gideon White moved his family to the new settlement and built a log cabin near a fine spring on Shoal Creek. While passing through this live oak grove, less than a quarter mile from his cabin in the spring of 1842, White was set upon by a band of mounted Indians. He fought valiantly from behind one of the large live oaks and killed at least one of his attackers before being killed himself. The marks of a number of arrows and bullets which hit the tree were visible for many years. White was one of several residents of the Austin area who were massacred by the Indians that year. Four years after his death, White's daughter, Louisa Maria, married Edward Seiders, who was then engaged in the livery and grocery businesses in Austin. For a time they lived in her father's cabin at the springs, which became known as Seiders Springs, and the nearby oak grove as Seiders Oaks. That oak grove is what you're looking at in the above Google Map image. After the election of 1850, when Austin was again selected as the seat of government, the capital's growth increased. The Seiders family was among Austin's new residents that year. In 1865, General George Custer and his men camped under these same sheltering live oaks at Seiders Springs. That's right: Custer himself camped underneath the trees just south of 38th street in central Austin. By the 1870s, Seiders Springs had become a popular recreation spot. Seiders erected bath houses, picnic tables, and a dance pavilion at the Springs which bore his name. He even provided for his patrons a means of transportation to and from town. The Seiders Oaks are located at Seiders Springs, now a pleasant city park along Shoal Creek, between 34th and 38th Streets, in Austin. Every day, folks picnic among them or take a short stroll, oblivious to their astounding history.8 points

For the first few years, Tyrion was the consumate anti-hero. Then he got whiny and boring. For the last few, he's been a non-factor - a waste of air time, and giving him this fucking speech where he suggests that another do-nothing waste of time become the king was a massive let down. Fuck these fucking writers. They were truly weak. Jon giving the impassioned speech would have been far superior. But maybe the writers couldn't figure out a way for a fighter/rebel to recommend a mealy mouthed fuckhead should be king. How about Jon escaping from his cell, showing up at their little "summit", chopping off Grey Worms fucking head and telling everyone else that they've gone thru too much to hand over power to shitheads and foreign armies. He challenges every one of them to pick up a sword and take him on to prove that they have what it takes. Sansa is the only one brave enough and smart enough to see what he was doing. When she stands up and draws a sword, Jon kneels and says "there's your new Queen" and walks off. Anything would have been better than the shit they fed us in Episode 6.8 points

It's fine if you prefer Davis Market or Vencil's - we understand that not everyone can afford the quality meats that are served every day at Louie Mueller. Keep in mind that our prices reflect three generations of Barbecue tradition yet we are still competitive with or even cheaper than other highly rated establishments. When dining on a fine cuisine such as Texas Barbecue, you will generally get what you pay for - so while the "3 meat plate" somewhere else might come cheaper, you will not get the full Texas Barbecue experience and miss out on the satisfaction and excellence provided at the legendary, highly regarded establishment that is Louie Mueller Barbecue. Maybe work a little bit harder for your next paycheck and come back and see us when you can afford it so you can open your eyes to the difference. With sincerest regards, Wayne Mueller - 3rd Generation Owner | Pitmaster7 points

You seem to think they vote their economic interests first and foremost. That's rarely actually the case. They vote to hurt the people they hate. There's probably at least fifty million Americans who would volunteer to live with their families in cardboard boxes cooking rats for dinner if a strongman would guarantee that the black guy in the next box over didn't even get a rat.7 points

BBQ2. My personal experience is it can be wonderful and horrible all at the same time. I was almost two years sober and doing quite well. I went in to therapy to help a family member deal with their severe PTSD . That part was fantastic and I couldn't have done it without being sober. It opened up a lot of things that helped mend the relationship between my father and I, while also giving him the ability to breathe in his own life. Poor guy had a shit upbringing and managed to keep us safe and relatively sane throughout my life. I also learned a lot about my own traumas and I was offered help to work on myself. I agreed, and off I went pealing back the onion. This part was the wonderful part as I had never faced down my shit. I dug deep and made some huge strides emotionally and within my relationships. I finally understood why I was so insecure/fearful/anxious etc. All of these things that I had been given relief from because of working the steps and getting sober, were now something I could get over, get past forever. I slowly stopped going to meetings because I was working on myself. Thats when the thoughts came. If I can beat this, I can beat the booze. I've climbed a mountain of fear, shame, and guilt and kicked it's ass. There was also a nudge from the psychologist that maybe it was just the PTSD that caused my drinking. Maybe if I found new community outside of AA, I could live my life normally again. I asked a Dr. friend his opinion, and he concurred that there are plenty of ways to drink normally. So, I did drink a little and nothing happened at first. Nothing fell apart. I was working the therapy and I was moving on with my life. Then came a series of small outside events that brought me down a bit, and bam! Just like that it was time to stop the feelings and the wave of depression and anxiety came back like never before. I didn't wait very long and told my therapist I was having suicidal thoughts and I couldn't sleep again. Just like that she sent me to a psychiatrist and here came the pills. Even though I told the new lady I was not sober, I got a regime of anti anxiety/anti depressants/non narcotic sleep aid. I don't know if anyone has ever drank on that cocktail before, but it will send you to the fucking funny farm. I was full on delusional and worse than ever before. I've never experienced darkness like that, even the time I spent nine months trying to drink myself to death. I was fucked, and by a series of small miracles and getting my ass kicked again I walked back into AA and I've never been better. No pills, no therapy, no bullshit. I am sure that the PTSD of my childhood helped spur my drinking. I am sure that the strange home life that lacked normal relationships allowed for the booze to be more effective. I am positive that therapy worked for my father to heal his wounds. I had made so much progress and gained so much self knowledge that I forgot how I was able to do it in the first place. I had given up alcohol and surrendered my will to a higher power. Therapy allowed me to take back control of my life and it was a fucking nightmare. There is nothing wrong with therapy and pills if they are prescribed by folks who truly understand addiction. I am not militant on that shit, find what works for you. I just know that I opened myself up to being "normal" again and it almost killed me. I am an alcoholic, I can't drink, and I pray that my higher power will grant me another day of peace and happiness. God speed and do what you need to do, just don't change whatever it is you are dong that got you out of hell and into the good place. Much love.7 points

I don’t get paid to post. I’m not working for anyone. I’m really a refugee poster. I watched my old forum get attacked and completely subverted during the 2016 election, the attack was so bad the forum itself turned against me because I was trying to fight it off. I was the crazy troll, the Hillary shill, the Soros AstroTurf in their world. I was ringing the alarm bells but no one would listen. They still haven’t recovered. I also witnessed the attack on Twitter because I was following several of the Russian IRA accounts before anyone knew they were Russian IRA accounts. The shit they were doing might seem innocent to some but to me it was terrifying. You ever wonder why this community hasn’t been overrun by Qanon tards and Trumpkins like the forums that compete with this one? I wonder all the time. I don’t know but I’d like to think I might be a part of the reason why. I don’t think I’m important or special but I felt assaulted in 2016 and I don’t want it to happen again. Trying to educate myself and paying it forward is how I’ve spent much of my time here. Probably too much time.6 points

Oh, I’m a posting junky, no doubt about it but have you seen what has gone down in the last 24 hours? The President called for the death penalty of his vocal critics in law enforcement The Speaker of the House called for a staff/family intervention of the President The Attorney General has been granted access to completely undermine the intelligence community and further erode the public’s trust. The Justice Department charged Assange under the espionage act which threatens the freedom of the press. Trump bailed out more farmers with Soviet style subsidies for a trade war he started. And that’s before getting to the distractions of Iran, NK, abortion, war criminals, and posting doctored videos on twitter. Also the Austrian government collapsed and the British Prime Minister resigned. Your right though, we should concern ourselves we these things. I’ll see myself out.6 points

This is wrong. He's broadcasting his intention to arrest everyone involved with the initial investigation into his campaign right now for the whole world to see, and Barr is helping him. You think they're just going to stop there? You think he's going to back down as the pressure mounts against him? Animals are fiercest when they're cornered. That's all Trump is. There's no "lol" there. This is getting fucking exponentially outrageous and dangerous. What's really scary is video manipulation software. So doing some quick tablecloth math, if Texas were to add the 6 guys IT predicts in the next couple months (Crawford, Lindberg, Washington, Rogers, Thompson and Jackson) we would be sitting at 11 commits, and the per player average would be 93.43. That is good for 4th in per player average in the country, behind Clemson, LSU, and Georgia. It would also put us at 216.88, good for 5th overall in the rankings. And that's without serious heavy hitters and possible risers still out there like Broughton, Collins, Evans/Robinson, Wilson, Flowe, Ransom, and the kid from Temple. That's a seriously great position to be in with most of out big rankings guys outstanding. We'd be really sitting in a great spot.5 points

On a MUCH smaller scale we faced something similar a week ago. A child at our neighborhood playground had tried to use the baby swing and gotten stuck. This child had muscular legs and they just weren't going to come out. Eventually we had to cut her pants so that her skin was exposed then used an industrial strength lubricant to get her loose. She was autistic and it was hard enough to get her to accept this process and her parents said there was no way she could handle us cutting the swing near her body. So anyway, there were a bunch of kids trying to sneak a peek of the situation but then there was one little shithead who was laughing and pulled out his phone to take a picture and I'm sure send it out around the world. My wife noticed first and absolutely jumped down his throat and yelled at him to get out of the area. She proceeded to give him a tongue-lashing for a solid minute about caring about people and not just taking advantage of their misfortune by making fun of them so you can get a couple of laughs and a few likes on social media. His friends who had been chuckling with him were pretty much white in the face when she was done. Maybe out of him, his friends, and the other couple of dozen kids in the area the message will get through to a few.5 points

That is exactly correct. Listen to their language the last few decades: Culture War Class War War on Christmas War on God These aren't people who golf clap for hyperbole. They scream, "fuckin' A right! It's war!" We're involved in a political contest. They're involved in a war. We're concerned about our fellow citizens being duped. They're sure they're right and will carry on the conflict by any means that assure the destruction of their enemies. And there are millions of them. There is no profitable way for the pandering news media to cover this alarming aspect of the electorate without, GASP!, losing ratings. The media and most of us focus on the old way of viewing a president and the solutions to be found through elections. We're not in that Kansas anymore. There's a rift in the electorate. It's profound. Reconciliation seems unlikely particularly if we don't even talk about the actual problem.5 points

you start flirting with this chic. as you get to know her, she becomes even hotter. and she gets even more beautiful and complex with a range of depth and emotions and intelligence you have never experienced before. then after 5 years into the relationship, she starts becoming a little stupid but you look past it because she is still hot as hell and is still generally great. then 6 and 7 years, things start to go a little off, like the pharmacy company stopped making her meds that you never knew she took. she becomes a little incoherent. the long engaging conversations are mostly filled with sex and fights to past the time away. then in the 8th year, she becomes batshit crazy. nothing she says or does makes sense. it's like this person resembles absolutely nothing like the person you knew for the first 5 years. and then one day out of the fucking blue, she reveals that she was a dude and wants to have an operation to get his penis back and become a dude again. but hey, you'll always have the memories of first 5 years to carry you through. the above may or may not have any similarities to the show that you'll watch.4 points

I can't recommend Empire of the Summer Moon strongly enough as a picture of the Comanches and Texans. The Rangers were amazingly courageous pursuing larger bands of Comanches after raids. The Comanches were at least a match for them until the Colt revolver evened the field. It's a remarkable book.4 points

I believe that IF I had addressed my childhood traumas before I learned to drink like an alcoholic, then I might be able to drink moderately today. HOWEVER, I did not. And over the last 30 years I hardwired my brain into hardcore alcoholism. If I had healed my issues 20, 25 years ago, maybe it would have been possible to be a normie, maybe even spin one off every now and then with few if any consequences. That ship has not just sailed, but also hit an iceberg and sunk. I KNOW I cannot drink moderately, because I just don't have any interest in it. It always bottles my mind when I hear people say "If only I could have a glass of wine with dinner." Fuck that shit. I know if I picked up again it would be a handle a day within a few weeks. So...I drink just a little bit less than a normie. Meaning not at all. The only alternative for me is to drink like a Russian.4 points

History is replete with tyrants who initially rose to power through democratic means before destroying democracy to retain their power. Hell, it's happening in various places all around the world right now. Those tyrants are always narcissistic pussies with extreme insecurities. Those tyrants never have the immediate ability upon rising to power to bend the system to their will. They have to poison and corrupt it. And they're always loudly opposed by the majority of the public. But they're frequently successful, despite their glaring flaws and despite public opposition, because their elected political opposition fails to realize what they are and actually act to stop them. Again, we're talking about power. The fundamental reason tyrants take power is that others let them. All throughout the developed world countries have developed systems to attempt to divide up power, and every one of those systems is capable of failing if the various parties to whom power is distributed refuse to wield it. We've spent two and a half years watching Trump claim more and more power for himself, and the Dem leadership is asking his fucking kids to stage an intervention. They refuse to wield the power they've been given. He's not going to suspend elections in 2020, so we the people do still have an opportunity to stop him. But the GOP is going to cheat in every way they think they can even conceivably get away with. Voter suppression measures will be rampant. Russia has unfettered access to the voter rolls in swing states and the federal government is doing nothing to protect against that. Nothing is guaranteed.4 points
-
I'm not sure what "work" or "not work" even mean in this context. Everyone is still trapped in this idea that our political system will somehow save us by unknown mechanisms. This is about power. Our system purports to distribute power to various branches, but other branches only actually have power over Trump to the extent they're willing to wield it. The Senate clearly isn't, and the Dems in the House will only do so if a clear majority of the electorate tells them its ok to do so. The courts can issue rulings against Trump every day but they can't actually enforce any of them. The system was designed to survive an aspiring tyrant, it wasn't designed to survive an aspiring tyrant aided by political supplicants that controlled a house of Congress.4 points

Not really. That win felt great and was conceptually good for the program after the past TCU thrashings. But it was a down year for TCU. It wasn’t just one win.
