What seems to get lost in this topic is the DOUBLE fuckery it entails. It’s bad enough that he’s spending hundreds of millions of OUR dollars on his golf trips. Under Obama, these same folks were telling us that bullshit vacation spending (at a significantly lower burn rate, by the way) was one of the things that made Obama the WORST PRESIDENT EVAR. But it gets worse. He’s taking much of that money out of the US Treasury....and shoving it into HIS pockets. He’s spending it at Trump golf properties. He’s fucking doing half-ass money laundering, hoovering up taxpayer dollars like a whore snorting as much coke as she can, and his supporters aren’t just okay with it, they think it’s great, because libtears. He’s a fucking theif and a con man. And the conned can’t ever admit how fucking stupid they were, so they double down on support.9 points

Snow’s was awesome. Tootsie couldn’t be nicer. Brisket was the star, followed by pork steak, ribs and chicken. Sausage isn’t my cup of tea but was still good. What a goddamn good way to spend a Sat. Alarm at 5, at buddy’s by 5:40 and in line by 8:45. Sitting down with food about 10:15. Drink beer. Hang out and get tour from Tootsie. Back in Dallas by 2:45.8 points

Finally, after a decade of wanting to go and one failed attempt, we made it to The Narrows. I have to say, that hike was intense and I honestly think it was harder than the South Rim and Guadalupe Peak. However, it was worth it. Photos of this place do not do it justice whatsoever. It is one of the most beautiful places I have been. I am glad it is so difficult to get to because I think people would fuck it up if given the chance. The crown jewel of Texas swimming holes...6 points

It might be funny if y’all have even sniffed at a conference title in 20 years or a national title in 80. But hey, being Bama and LSU’s bitch is pretty awesome.6 points

I'm pretty fiscally conservative but this is silly. There is a huge swath of people that don't have access to family or community support networks. For those of us that do, it's nice that we can say snarky things like your quote. But lots of people don't. You're obviously a fairly affluent white guy and that's okay (I am too) but your post shows the bubble you live in.5 points

I haven't posted on this thread in forever but I just can't help sharing my NGD. Martin 000-15M. Been wanting one of these for some time. She plays like butter, and complements my Taylor dread quite well.5 points

Meant to post this one a few months ago but similar leftover pork loin and some grilled veg, jalapeño jack cheese, Stubbs mopping sauce on a flour tortilla. My go to is basically leftovers on a tortilla. I have a gas stove so it’s easy to warm the tortillas right on the flame. I tired to take a more appropriate for this thread pic on this one but was a bit drunk at the moment and didn’t think it was smart to get the handgun out...4 points

Remember that big-ass Lone Star sign next to Conan's? It made the craziest noises when you'd hit its steel beams, esp if you hit it with a rock or something. Never missed a chance every time I walked by it. /csb (This is the kind of quality, useful info you come to surly for, right?)4 points

I will say, as much as I wish Kawhi would occasionally show a little emotion, I fucking love that he doesn't flop, embellish, wine, or create bullshit contact. He may be the only elite player in the league that can claim this. And he still gets to the foul line plenty; they won't, but it would be cool if others followed suit.4 points

We need to go after McClellan hard. Can you imagine a Card-McClellan backfield in a couple of years? Card tries to hand off to McClellan but his hands are too small so he keeps dropping the ball and McClellan can't pick it up because he's had two knee replacements and can't bend over.4 points

Concerned citizens tired of the city encouraging and catering to homeless at the expense of regular folks should provide taxi and bus vouchers to legal places for them to pitch their tents near the homes of city leaders who are perpetuating this problem. They can make daily food drop offs to these locations so that the homeless never have to leave. Here on the west coast tent cities have exploded. They are not just people who sleep in a tent. It’s literally cubic yards of garbage and filth built 3 feet from the property of people who are paying $500,000 mortgages. Id be interested to see what numbers on homelessness are these days. Is there actually an increase in homelessness or are they just concentrating themselves in locations where the weather is good and people hassle them the least? For years we were told that the homeless are victims of the economy but in many west coast cities fast food jobs start at $15.00+ and go unfilled. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that making life easier for the homeless, even if it means just allowing them to pitch tents and shit where ever they want to without being hassled actually breeds homelessness. That “compassionate” laws are actually detrimental to the problem. I dont know what the answer is but I don’t think we’re on the right track to help these people get off the street and we’re fucking over regular people to make the lives of the homeless 5% better.4 points

Do what San Antonio did. Spend a couple million on a facility in Far East Austin that is equipped to receive the homeless and parter with local charities, church, community colleges and hospitals to provide these people a real chance to end their homelessness. Do this in concert with passing very strict anti panhandling, trespassing, vagrancy, loitering laws and allowed trained officers to routinely patrol popular locations where homeless gather and transport them to this new facility. Those with drug/alcohol problems or mental disorders will be put into a program (also located on site) while the others are monitored then moved into a halfway house type of situation and given food/clothing. Once they’ve hit the minimum required stay they can be placed into an optional vocational training program and put on a path to gain employment with a city/community partner and moved into an additional halfway house outside of the intake facility. Have a three strikes policy and then assign those that violate it real jail time as a deterrent for those who are picked up on their third time. This would give those that want a path out of homelessness a real chance to turn their lives around and remove the homeless by choice from our streets.4 points

You hit a nerve because you’re talking out of your ass. And for the record, I shaped my hat, wore eye black (because it looked fucking badass), and I never got Copenhagen on my beard because I didn’t have one when I played, I just wiped my chin. The douchebags you’re referring to are out there, but I wasn’t, nor am I now, one of them. Sorry a baseball player(s) upset you at one point, or a bunch of points in your life, but your beautiful stereotype is a dead giveaway.3 points

The University of Texas did not integrate as quickly as it ought to have done. But while the debate at the University of Texas has been, for several decades now, exactly how far do corrections to those historical errors need to go, the debate at Texas A&M University has been over exactly how loudly to shout out the lying history of murdering racist Sul Ross when defending the continued display of his statue in a place of prominence on campus. The idea that anyone would defend the history of racism at Texas A&M University by comparing it to literally any other university in the State of Texas, let alone the University of Texas, is an example of just how tone deaf someone can become when they buy into a cult. Wake me when Barbara Jordan, Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King, et al., are found in places of prominence on the aggy campus.3 points

I can't speak to what everyone else has experienced. This is just my perspective after my experiences. There's something to what hayden said regarding survivors guilt. Quite a bit actually. I still experience it from time to time. And probably always will. But there is more. As mentioned, and like others, I don't like talking about my experiences at war with my family members. I am considerably more open with (some) strangers. Why? A few reasons: It's easier to be open with strangers. With people you have no personal connection with, it's, for lack of a better definition, like speaking to a wall or other inanimate object. You know, you KNOW, you won't be judged by a stranger, or even if you are, it's someone you aren't in any way attached to, and therefore that judgment holds no weight. You can say everything about what you went through, and what you felt, and have no filter in doing so. It's like pouring smoke into the wind, knowing that it's going to disperse and be of no further consequence. It's significantly less frustrating. Family members, by and large, simply don't understand, and can't understand, what we went through in war. And there's no way to adequately describe it. None. That brings on a double-edged frustration: that the family members don't understand, and that you can't describe it in a proper way. With a stranger, you don't really care if they understand or not. Some of us, or at least me, feel some unknown need to protect my family members from what I experienced. There's nothing pretty about war, especially for those that have been in direct combat (thank God Almighty I never was). Not one goddamn thing. Even the mundane office aspects of it aren't pretty. We want to protect those we love from the ugliness. And we are afraid that even talking about the goofy funny shit will lead into the ugly. Or at least I am. You won't, by and large receive pity. There's a tendency among family members to blanket us as veterans with an overdose of pity after we relay our stories, or at least I have witnessed this. Especially if we have talked about something traumatic. We, generally speaking, don't want that. Let me say it again: WE DON'T WANT PITY. Sometimes we don't even want empathy. We just want to vent, receive understanding if it's possible, and move on. But no pity. Talking to strangers, I've generally not received pity. Anyways, that's my view.3 points
