A few things: -If Harrell is the OC, and the rumors are legit but don’t take anything for granted until ink is dry, then Traylor could make a return. Herman would be admitting to a mistake in letting him go in the first place, so I’m iffy. There’s a shot. Traylor is a stud recruiter and ST coach, irrespective of which position role he would wind up with, if he were re-hired. -For all of the shit everyone gives Warehime, he’s actually done okay at TE coach and Wiley looks like a stud. He might stay. -Beck and Meekins will be gone after signing day. -Ash isn’t the leading candidate. -Outside of Giles, not sure if anyone is safe on defense if the new DC wants other guys. -Expect better positional balance in the coaching staff. -Money and CDC were involved with this. Anyone thinking otherwise is a fucking moron. Herman wasn’t ready to make changes. -Herman is roundly despised by the academic side and the money. Tech win gave him another season. He has been told unequivocally that they should be competing for a national title next year, that he needs to win the fucking bowl game, and they better damned sure land a top 10 class this year. If he fails at any of those, his ass is fucking gone. Obviously, if he fails at the bowl win and the recruiting class and then goes to the CFP, he’s keeping his job. 10 wins though? Some shit like that? Nope. Dude is fucking despised by too many important people. -Urban Meyer was not going to be approached, fwiw. The guy they had lined up would have been pretty fucking great and it will be interesting to see if he goes anywhere this year or if he’s still available after Herman buttfucks 2020.30 points

Sun doesn’t shine on the same dog’s ass every decade, I guess. I’ve seen enough crazy shit in CFB that I can’t discount anything. Dabo Swinney was an unknown position coach that took over in mid-season and put together a string of middling seasons. The boosters demanded his exit and the AD held steady. Mike Garrett couldn’t hire the right HC to save his life. He hired Pete Carroll and we fucking laughed. Jim Harbaugh was a sure thing at Michigan. Ed Orgeron was destined to leave the LSU program in smoke and ruin. We all mocked the premise that Joe Burrow and a fucking guy that had never even been a position coach would do anything but create more jokes at LSU. Matt Rhule was a fucking joke of a hire for a Texas school. We all laughed. I doubt this shit works out, but fuck, it is more hope than I’ve felt since 2009.13 points

It's a popular opinion around here that he hires his buddies. I think he's just so inexperienced that he doesn't have much of a coaching circle to look at or lean on. His first HC gig lasted 2 years with 1 staff, and he brought them along to Texas. He's never fired an assistant, but look at his lack of experience. 2 years at first stop and in his 3rd year here. And who does he have to lean on, "mentors" and whatnot? Urban would probably be the #1 guy to call, you know, the guy you worked for who is the best college coach in the past half century not named Saban. He was actually asked the question about mentors, his reply? "Well, there Mack, Greg, Larry Fedora, and the wife. The circle is extremely small". I see the real problem is he has no idea who he should hire, he doesn't really know that many coaches, and he doesn't have anyone competent he can ask. In other words, he is completely unprepared for the job. Being a good playcaller and OC does not translate to being a good HC. Job #1 for a HC is hiring and maintaining great assistants.9 points

Guys, we can argue about how 2012 A&M would have fared in the B12 in some hypothetical parallel universe all day long... ...shouldn't we instead just embrace the hilarious irony that their best player and team in decades lined up perfectly with a down B12 that year, but that they essentially fucked themselves by making the move that they all believed would redefine their program and thrust them into the national elite - which they may have actually done had they just stayed where they were? Come on assholes, it is perfect the way it is.9 points

Ironically, I just got a text from my inside person (same one that gave me the earful in October about the Eagles issue). Beck and Warehime will stay on through the bowl, but then are out. New hires will be made by the new OC. One of the new hires could be someone already on staff, but that's pending other issues getting worked out first. Hand and Drayton are safe. I asked about the defensive side, and there has been no word on Giles, Washington or Naivar long term. With these they are probably going to be interviewing for their jobs with the new DC.8 points

Hey man. Go fuck yourself. I hope you get trapped in a Baylor frat house and have Baylor things happen to you for a few decades.8 points

Wrong, and it's only by an enormous amount of restraint that I don't call you a dumbass for parroting Aggie propaganda. In 2012, Notre Dame went unbeaten. Alabama had one loss-- to A&M. If A&M hadn't been in the SEC in 2012, Alabama wouldn't have had their one loss. Even if you want to accept the preposterous notion that A&M would have gone undefeated playing a Big 12 schedule that year, which they were never able to do in all their years playing in the conference, there is no scenario where unbeaten A&M would have gotten into the BCS championship game over unbeaten Notre Dame and unbeaten Alabama.8 points

There were a few miscues early on but the ags put up a hell of a battle for the remainder, particularly in the second half. It didn't take much imagination to see the nucleus of this team coming into form for the coming seasons, particularly with an extra year of S&T under their belts. Kellen Mond looked as fluid and strategic as he ever has. All the same, it was important for James Foster to get those jitters out of his system; the anxiety of the big lights on the road can hit anyone in their first game, even the great ones. With some amazing half-time adjustments, Jimbo and Mike Elko proved why they're paid at the very top tier of college football. Insiders agree the ags are on track for a 2021 championship run. / the coming Loochi spin8 points

I find the idea of a coach feeding plays to opposing staff ludicrous, and the idea of those coaches acting on that knowledge even more ludicrous. I also find the idea of that coach being fired as opposed to being beaten within an inch of his life in the showers equally ludicrous. Lots of ludicrosity.7 points

Beck is not the play caller in the same sense that Orlando was. Mehringer, Beck, Herman, and Hand all have a say in the playcalls on game day. Which is why the offense is a clusterfuck. Beck is still an elite recruiter and unlike most of the other staff is a good coach at whatever position you put him at. Orlando was not a good DC, a horrible recruiter, and an abysmal teacher at the LB position.7 points

Yeah, in the Big Ten. The conference where the peak of offensive creativity for most teams is running I-formation three times, then punting. A Big Ten DC would get torn to pieces in the Big 12. The offenses here are light-years ahead of the outdated pro-style attacks Ash faced at Ohio State. This is like saying Don Brown is a great defensive coordinator, then wondering why Michigan is always slaughtered by the first spread offense (Ohio State) they face all year.6 points

It’s pretty fucking simple for anyone who has paid attention. We need Baylor to brutally rape OU next weekend, Utah to beat Oregon, and then Utah needs to roll through the playoffs for their first national title while Baylor sobs and claims highway robbery. And then we also need OU to get depantsed again in their bowl game.6 points
