  6. As one of three women who post here, I can assure you that while Joe’s hair sniffing and “grabiness” is definitely inappropriate and gross it pales in comparison to the litany of disgusting stuff Trump has done to and said about women. And as far as my greater concern about the future of women’s rights and all that encompasses (abortion, domestic violence legislation, being included in the power structure) Biden’s tendencies don’t mean jackshit when compared to Trump. I appreciate the concern trolling of “Well about women??? Joe will turn them off!”, it’s ultimately bullshit when contrasted with the real fear of becoming a handmaid if Trump stays in power. Women and other marginalized groups are willing to overlook things like that to feel safe and heard. As a woman it’s pretty offensive to me that some of y’all are equating pussy grabbing, rape, sexual assault, removal of body autonomy, and real legislative efforts to make us second class citizens to some creepy hugging and hair sniffing. And Bernie has written some pretty gross things in his past regarding women - why no fear about that pushing away suburban women? Neither Joe’s creepy hugs nor Bernie’s essays are going to alarm women enough to make them vote for Trump.

  7. One of the benefits of marrying a Cajun is her cooking. I love her family’s etouffee recipe, which gets cooked often during Lent. Unfortunately I can’t get etouffee anywhere else because it just doesn’t compare. It is my favorite thing she makes. Butter, crawfish fat, onions, green peppers, and crawfish.

  11. I won't pretend to have any depth to my understanding of Jack Welch's pros and cons, but it's odd to immediately see things like "it'll be interesting to see how history treats him" and "meh" as first posts on this thread. Hell, even the top post is sarcastic about him. Seems to me like this guy was a pretty amazing leader for his shareholders. He laid off 100,000+ employees during his time at GE. Okay. Is that on him? Or is that on the bloated infrastructure that decades of corporate bureaucracy created and he dismantled? It is not a CEO's job to either keep payroll expanding or ensure that anyone gets to keep their job forever. I type that as a guy that enjoys being involved with starting and growing businesses and payrolls. It's not a fucking promise though. Want to keep your job and make lots of money? Kick maximum ass and help build something the world needs. So what besides lay people off did Welch do to deserve mediocre thoughts about his time on the planet and his contributions to the business world? Started fucking a reporter while married? Okay. The ex-wife received $170million, no children were involved and the dude married the reporter. What else? Was he a closet racist? Did he beat women? Was he a bad neighbor? Maybe there's something there that I missed while observing his legend at the surface, I guess. The next time someone on here is even vaguely involved with turning around a Fortune 100 and then growing revenues in the billions by more than 30x will be the first. The guy was an amazing fucking capitalist. He made a fuckton of people a whole lot of money. As far as I know, he did so without personally murdering or raping anyone. The revisionist history around guys like this is bullshit. If he was a flawed man, he just joins the party with the rest of us. He was better at what he did than damned near anyone else on the planet at what they did. I'd take the second coming of that dude in any business I'm invested in right now over anyone running any of those companies, including my day job. Fire me and make me some money, please. Anyway, I've always dug the 6 maxims attributed to hisleadership while running the show at GE: Face reality as it is; not as it was or as you wish it were. Be candid with everyone. Don't manage, lead. Change before you have to. If you don't have a competitive advantage, don't compete. Control your destiny, or someone else will.

  12. Stupid move by the school. Very shrewd move by the parents to leverage the situation to cover college expenses. You see a free college education laying on the ground, you pick it up.

  15. 1. The GOP believes tax breaks for the very wealthy and corporations are more important than public health. Their budgets the past few years show exactly how much they prioritize public health. That strategic mismanagement is why we are slow to respond to this, and they are already trying to pin that on the Democrats. I hope people are smart enough to connect the dots and hold our current leadership's feet to the fire, but you already see a lot of local criticism being thrown at the CDC for the NoCal case and the SA case without anyone mentioning that that the CDC has been forced to operate on a shoe-string budget. Its the same misdirection loop as being used with regards to public education -- defund the system, watch the system decay, amplify the noise about how ineffectual the system is, use that as justification for further defunding, literally profit. 2. Goddamit, jump into politics and run for some office already. For the love of God.

  18. Grill it on the halfshell -- one of my favorite meals ever. Leave the scales on, cut the filet. I brush it with a lot of butter, garlic, and cajun seasoning. AND, a lot of folks don't do this, but I always cook it flesh side down for a few minutes (gets grill marks, char, and smoky flavor). Flip it, baste with a little more butter and lemon, and let it cook through. Use a spatula to scoop it away from the "shell" and serve.

  19. I know this is hard to believe, but there are a shit ton of people who don't spend all day on college football message boards arguing about politics. Their lives are going okay and they don't want a giant revolution, but they're getting pretty tired of Trump and would prefer if he was gone. Assuming that every single person has "issues" that they obsess over as much as we do is fallacy #1. I'm not saying they are correct nor am I even saying you need to respect their point of view, but there's A LOT of them and their single vote counts just as much as the guy who attends political rallies every weekend. Purposefully alienating them is a poor strategy.

  25. This post is aging really, really well. And I'm sorry to the Bros that the Democratic Party isn't quite as big a shitshow as the GOP. But really, wasn't that always their only play (and remains their only play)? Four years ago, when faced with a candidate who (1) has been a member of the party for about five minutes, (2) holds positions that are contrary to the party's traditional orthodoxy and contrary to the (erstwhile) opinions of most members, and (3) promises to cause widespread down-ballot destruction over the next few election cycles, the GOP couldn't coalesce behind an alternative. They split their vote between Lyin' Ted, Little Marco, and John Kasich (who I don't think even ever merited a nickname. The Democrats look as though they are going to avoid that fate.

  27. Last night I came in from the grocery store with some extra dry goods and Mrs Rojo asked me what it was for. The conversation went like this: "Why did you buy all this stuff?" I figured it would be a good idea to have some extra food in the house in case there are disruptions from Coronavirus. "From what?" The global pandemic that started in China? [Blank Stare from her] Severe respiratory infection, it's killed thousands of people around the world. Starting to see cases in the US. [Still a blank stare] If they start quarantining people, there could be supply disruptions, and the grocery stores will probably get picked over pretty fast. In her best "hand on her hip" voice "Well if that happens, I'll just increase our 'Hello Fresh' orders"

  28. So an IV drip that includes zinc would work as well or better than the lozenges? Or would it not have the same impact whatsoever? I went into the local CVS this morning and it was pandemonium over the lozenges. Two guys got into a fistfight over the last box of 12 packs. After one of the guys was knocked unconscious, the other guy took off for the door with the box of lozenge packs in hand. The off-duty cop manning the bottled water section chased him outside and shot him twice in the back as he ran for his car. This enabled me to abscond with the few remaining canned items and an industrial jug of hand sanitizer while people were distracted. Still, no zinc so I'm feeling a little incomplete in finishing my stock up.

  30. We do now this strain was stolen from a Canadian lab in 2009. The Chinese were trying to weaponize, come up with a vaccine or both. It didn't come from snake penis and bat soup but someone from the lab infected that market. Yeah, I'm gonna need to see some sources on that one. It's amazing that Trumpers will believe this shit without a shred of evidence, but not that Trump...oh, where do I begin... Fucking idiots

  32. Got after it with old girlfriend the second we got in the door. Pulling of clothes, grabbing, groping, tugging and pulling. She was all ready to rock after a black tie shindig and some champagne. We just couldn’t get after it fast enough. As I’m thrusting into her I notice her toes are curling up and as I de-thrust I notice her toes uncurl. After 2-3 minutes of this action, she says “deadshank, take my panty hose off, would you?”

  36. Well, let's see why we're fucked: The majority of Americans can't stay home from work because they won't get paid (either immediately, or because they have very limited sick leave). So, sick people will go to work. If you have symptoms, then the right thing to do may be to show up and get tested....but under our system, that's not a public health action. That's just your private medical care, which you have to pay for (even with insurance, see high-deductible plans etc.). So, why would you incur a huge expense to protect other people? If you are seriously ill, you'll put off expensive medical care because it's expensive. And by the time you realize you really need care, it's too late, and you die. Our system is set up to fucking fail, and badly, in a communicable disease public health crisis. And as for economics, global projections right now are that if this pandemic is handled WELL, and is brought under control quickly, it will take the global growth rate down from 3% to 2.5%. And if it's handled about like we think it will be (poorly), then that drop will be from 3% to 1.5%. We don't really know what the death rate is, so I'm not speaking to how bad it is as a disease. I'm just talking about the effects that we know about -- how we will react, and how the economy will react. Not great.
