  1. Are you telling me Gideon had an easy recruiting win fall into his lap and he dropped it?

  3. My one and only connection to the program, who I have cited in the Urban Meyer, McRib or Bust thread was in town this week going all Ted Cruz escaping the power outages to ski with my wife and I. This was my first chance to see him in person since the OU game. Some quick notes: * Sark was the clear number two choice after Urban. There was time last year when the money was aligned behind Campbell but once Sark laid out his vision for the Texas program the choice was made early in the process once Urban said no thanks. This was somewhat surprising to me. * Sark apparently listed out his proposed coaching staff which was a fucking all star wish list and said it would require Texas to commit to 7 figure salaries for as many as 3 additional coaches beyond the coordinator position. This was actually a huge selling point after the cluster fuck of Herman’s initial staff. * The belief from the Texas side was that Sark would be far away the best overall recruiting upgrade over the likes of Campbell, Kelley and other names mentioned. Recruiting was a very big factor in the decision apparently. * The money was aligned behind the candidate at least two full weeks before the announcement. This was not a blank check without input. Kudos to the people involved in the process and behind the financial support for keeping a lid of this. And that is all of the info I will have until we fire and hire again which I hope is many years from now.

  5. Because he is. For now. He's talking to kids, directly or indirectly, and trainers, when it comes to Texas targets for now. Perhaps others. But not Texas. Correct. This is what Saban did to Javonne Shepherd and A&M, which obviously helped us. Saban's not the best recruiter in the sport just because he's charismatic, persistent, and backs it up on the field, but he frequently works to negative recruit his competition to their targets until NSD has come and gone, even prospects his school is not interested in taking. Assuming good coaching to be held by all competing teams, the difference will be the size of the talent gap, not the total talent quantification on either team. An excellent example of this that has been discussed frequently on the Football board is ND, who has good coaching and talent, and can never compete once it gets to the peak of the sport, because it's just not talented enough by comparison. Making sure your conference rivals never escape that purgatory is why Saban has held such a stranglehold on the SEC and the national championship trophy. It's a strategy that is used against Texas a lot by our regional competition, and one I hope we start to utilize in the near future. (Was not meant to come off preachy to you Tex, apologies, just meant to expand/vent on something I've seen often that Texas didn't do enough of on past staffs). We wanted him. It's a loss for Texas, but that is okay. He's a kid we'll keep contacting and maintain a strong relationship with throughout the cycle while we pursue the multiple other prospects left on the board. Most of our targets in the secondary are still on the market. There's no reason to spin it as anything other than a strikeout by us, and simultaneously no reason to worry right now. I'm not sure how the recruitment went down, but I agree with what @golfclap said to have been a big factor. I don't think he liked being penciled into Texas' 22 class for so long largely because his brother was there, undoubtedly with some negative recruiting having exaggerated that emotion. The same thing happened to Kelvontay Dixon, who would have signed with Arkansas had that religious zealot Morris not gotten shitcanned.

  6. I created an account after months of lurking in the shadows just to rep & confirm this post. Damn you, RGIII for making me do that, but this & your other post were worth it. Fuck that guy & the tens of other insufferable posters on that miserable site now. FCB & his sycophants have ruined that place in record time. Okay, back to the shadows. Happy Hullaby day fellow miscreants.

  7. This right here. I was absolutely not a fan for a long time, and even got in trouble a while back for a shitty, tongue in cheek post (on this thread I believe). She’s fucking doing something. Regardless of whether or not there’s an agenda, she’s fucking doing something. Call me a fan of hers at this point.

  8. You're right about donkey to an extent, but you're also missing a big thing. He did know who Ted was. But before this week, he thought Ted's bullshit would only affect poor people or minorities or women. Now, whether donkey actively wanted others to be fucked over or just didn't give a shit is largely irrelevant. He's an asshole either way. But what you are missing is that, never in a million years did donkey imagine that he would end up getting fucked. But he did. Think of it with a different set of facts. Donkey, at best, probably doesn't care if cops shoot innocent black people. But now that innocent white people are getting shot, something needs to be done. So he may very well vote against Cruz in the primary next time. However, that doesn't make him any less of an asshole. Like any Republican, donkey only cares about himself, and that self finally took a hit. But he isn't gonna vote for anyone that really wants to help all people in general because he doesn't want to help all people. He wants to help himself. So he will vote for another liar in the republican primary and then, maybe, abstain from voting in the general election. But I do believe he is done with Ted. Not even a GOP politician can directly fuck over his donors.

  9. Pieces are being written before the dust has even settled because people are running to the press with their side of the story. A highly credible source with impressive credentials in the energy field gives a breakdown of a failure that occurred in the grid. Of course the press is going to run the story. Problem is that it was a system wide failure. Everyone is blaming everyone else because everyone failed. That's what is so wild. Nobody is really wrong when they point out another company or organization's failure in all this. Some are saying that they failed only because someone else failed first, but in reality, everyone would have failed anyway. Nobody winterized, the infrastructure of the grid was weak, ERCOT didn't plan for the storm, and PUC kept things deregulated for decades. A cascade failure of the grid was happening regardless of which producer went down first. ERCOT didn't plan for the storm, but even if they planned, things got so bad that even nuclear plants had to shut down. But plants had to shut down because they didn't winterize. They didn't winterize because PUC didn't make them. If I would call this situation anything, it would be a feedback loop of failure.

  12. I used to wonder why the active constant obsession of The Longhorns hatred of the aggy. Because as much as any good Bama fan hates the barn, it's mostly just understood hate unless/until something happens or game time. After I have experienced the aggy fanbase on an annual basis I understand it. After the first year where a couple of Johnny 8balls YOLO passes won them a game, suddenly they're part of the conference "elite". Despite the fact they really haven't won a game of importance since. All that win got them was a big contract and buyout for Rumlin. I don't care enough to look it up, but I don't think they've even went to a NY6 Bowl because they were the Conference runner up and got to go because the other team ahead of them went to the playoffs. They've certainly never been to the conference Championship game When aggy came to the SEC I was ok with it, but would have rather had Texas. Too bad there is a no return policy on discounted sale items.

  13. Already the anti-Ted campaign is leading where I'd like to see it go: to the soul of what it means to be Texan. Song parodies of Yellow Rose and Deep in the Heart have already been made. Somebody here posted an incredible recasting of the Crockett "You May Go to Hell" quotation remade with Cruz as Davy and Cancun replacing Texas. Texas Dems, probably on outside advice of Yankee DNC types, have ceded all the legends to the GOP. The GOP already claims patriotic virtue on the national front (Nazi pun intended) and now they would have us all believe that even Sam Houston would be a Republican today. We need strategists who can reconnect with voters on the level of myth: the Alamo, San Jacinto, the Rangers who fought Comanches. Neither Gus McRae nor Woodrow Call would so much as spit on Ted Cruz. The Dems need to seize hold of the legends. Whack the GOP across the face with a horse pistol and show them the picture behind the bar, back when Big Dick Energy Democratic Men like LBJ and Big Dick Energy women like Ann Richards ran this state. Not clammy crustaceans like Cruz and preening Yankee nancy boys like Danny Goeb.

  14. Glad to see Ted getting his comeuppance. On another note, two more old high school friends are no longer part of my life (and yes, they live in Texas) after saying Biden wasn't doing anything to help, and if he cared he'd be in Texas (which in reality would hamper clean up efforts), said Beto did what he did just to score political points, and then said there wasn't anything wrong with what Ted did since he had his phone/laptop. Fucking unbelievable how fucking dumb people are. These are people I spent my formative years with. Fuck them.

  19. Yes. It’s been this way for years regardless of if we are home or on the road. Not sure why y’all are surprised or upset. If you want to shoot more FTs than your opponent, then you’ll need a coach who can design such an offense. We don’t have that. Shaka made his offensive style a while back.
