  1. So, the aggies have been on quite a run in the transfer portal receiver market. Some of this info has been posted, but here's a quick recap. Gary Bryant: Committed to Oregon (posted above). Keon Coleman: Canceled aggie visit, down to Ole Miss and FSU. Ole Miss mod feels "very, very good" about chances with Coleman. If he commits to Ole Miss, he would replace ex-aggie Chris Marshall. And of course the aggies play Ole Miss (@ Ole Miss) this season. Shemar Kirk: Just committed to Miami. And of course the aggies play Miami (@ Miami) this season. Tyler Harrell: Just committed to Miami. He has speed, and speed ... well, speed does what DJ Durkin does. And of course the aggies ... see above. Whoop!

  2. If all of these reports are true I would say Zelensky is acting in the best interests of his country. Can't imagine being in his position of constantly having to lick the balls of western leaders to save his country. Forced to play politics while children are being slaughtered, and "adopted" by the enemy. Jfc.

  3. Abbott, Perry? WhyNotBoth.gif? It's interesting thinking about Perry - you almost always knew that any big proposals he had, it was going to benefit his biggest donors, and in theory, they actually would benefit a helluva lot of Texans. In August of 2001, when Perry pitched an open border with Mexico at a speech with Vincente Fox at the border, and talked about Texas and Mexico working on an integrated healthcare system as well as educational systems, and raising the standard of living on both sides of the border, it was like "holy fuck, Perry went back to being the Democrat that he was in the 1980s when he ran Al Gore's campaign in Texas!" It was pretty fucking progressive. Of course, it was going to benefit Perry's biggest donors, which were developers who relied on plentiful and cheap labor. In theory though, if the standard of living went up in Mexico, it might have scaled illegal immigration back a bit. Still, it was about Perry's donors. Then 9/11 happened, and that speech was scrubbed from the Texas Governor's website for a while. When Perry was pushing the Trans-Texas Corridor, and linking it with Mexico's rail systems and ports, and that it would jump-start an integrated transit system from Mexican ports on the Pacific all the way to the Great Lakes (and into Canada), you're like "wow, that might have brought a lot of jobs and lowered a lot of costs for goods" but it was going to, again, benefit Perry's donors. It was also going to take business away from California ports since offloading in Mexico and dumping it on rail there and running it on up the middle of America (reducing costs). But in theory, it had some good parts (lots of Texans would get fucked with imminent domain though). Again, Perry's donors. When Perry was pushing a guest-worker program with Mexico/Central/South America in 2006 (along with George W., McCain, etc.), it sounded progressive, but also it was touted as a national security issue, like "okay, we'll get a handle on who is actually here illegally, and we'll get them in the system so that they are documented, and get them paying taxes", but again, it was all about Perry's largest donors (Bob Perry, HEB/Butts, etc.) and making it easier for construction and agricultural companies to get cheap workers in legally. But still, it would legitimize people here illegally, and even afford them some protection they don't have when everything is under the table with them. But, Perry's donors. The thing is, you always knew mostly why Perry was pushing something big like those projects, and there was logic to them, even if you didn't agree with them, because Perry was a politician who would at least try and occasionally sell those projects and ideas to both sides of the political spectrum. Abbott? Fucking A. He's pushing shit that is meant to appeal to the dumbest fucking people with the least amount of education and common sense, because he's fucking desperate to get noticed nationally, and he's willing to openly try and hurt Texans in the process. He's down by several touchdowns in the 4th quarter and every pass he's throwing is a Hail Mary into the end zone because he's old and he's watching DeSantis, a law school grad as well, but who is 20 years younger than him, with a lot fewer accomplishments to his name, scoring on almost every possession. Abbott does not bother trying to come up with projects or solutions that he could at least pretend would benefit all Texans. Nope, he's firmly chasing down the dumbest fucking people and trying to make them like him instead of DeSantis or Trump, and he's putting a lot of effort into shit that hurts Texans, because he cares more about dumshit MAGA in other states more than the liberals here in Texas.

  5. In thinking about this, I don't have a problem with Zelensky saying this things or even having them explored. 1. If I were leading a country and it was being attacked, would I have the desire to attack that country back? Yep 2. If mercenaries were killing my soldiers and citizens and I had a chance to fuck them up on another country's soil would I consider it? Yep 3. If my neighbor was openly undermining support for my country in favor of the attacker and quite frankly was compromised due to oil, would I consider blowing up their access to that? Yes I would I know all if this is painting with a broad brush, and I understand the slow play on long range weapons, but to be honest, I think the Ukrainians thinking this way and even putting together plans is understandable. They have been attacked, and their people are being murdered. For me, all bets are off in a situation like that. The good news, is that he was persuaded to not pursue these objectives in order to get munitions and weapons, which shows him to be rational. Our objective, and NATO's as a whole, is to keep the peace but support a war. That's sort of fucked up to be honest, but given all the circumstances is understandable. At the same time, that means Ukraine and its objective (mainly to survive and win) won't always align in a nice and pretty way. Theirs is a struggle for existence, while ours is a struggle for stability (right, wrong or indifferent). Those two things are always going to be congruent.

  9. You'd think that Abbott has reached an age where he'd give a shit about how history is going to view him. He's been a Texas Supreme Court Justice, Texas Attorney General, and Texas Governor. Those all, on their own, are impressive achievements (well, having an (R) next to his name did 75% of the work, but he still had to win primaries). You'd think that he'd be focusing on projects that would benefit all Texans, and would leave him with some kind of legacy that Texans might care about. Shit that would make Texans in the future want to name schools and streets after him, etc. Instead, he's trashing whatever reputation he has and is chasing down Trumpanzees, including many outside of Texas, who only know how to shit in their hands and fling it around. He's chasing Republicans who are more interested in Trump or DeSantis, and he's doing nothing that would give them a reason to give a shit about him and vote for him in a primary. Just as bad, he's shitting all over Democrats in Texas and giving them reasons to show up and vote against Republicans, and potentially flipping the state sooner than it would otherwise. And he fucks up the simplest things, whether it was Uvalde or promising to pardon a white supremacist who had been looking to kill some people, and who killed a military veteran who actually was standing his own ground.

  10. @fattyflattie I lost one of my best friends to suicide. He had a 2 newborn baby, was suffering from depression, lack of sleep and drinking too much. He got in an argument with his wife, went upstairs and blew his brains out. I guess I say that to say I think you’re probably not a very good person.

  24. Godspeed John! The intro paragraphs of the NEISD enchilada article really struck a cord with me. Many, many decades ago my grandfather would (strategically in hindsight) come eat lunch with me during grade school. Those are some of my most cherished days and looking back I can see they were targeted around specific home-cooked cafeteria dishes of days gone by. Whatever the reason he came, my grandfather made my week on those days. John’s article brought those memories and gratitude back into my consciousness and I’m extremely grateful. A skilled author never knows the impact his words will have on the individual reader.

Ukraine's water drones have improved considerably....the funny thing is, this could be misinformation (I doubt it, but you never know) and it would still force the Russians to devote resources to protecting against it, and probably limit the movement of their ships. https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2023/05/innovative-submarine-drone-is-ukraines-new-weapon-against-russian-navy/

  29. Today is officially Juno's 2nd birthday (she's a rescue, so not sure what her actual birthdate was). The scouting report on Pyrs is that they're stubborn, difficult to train, and very independent. She really hasn't been any of those things and is probably the best dog we've ever had and my best friend. And every single day I look at her and think, "I cannot believe someone gave you up." \

  30. WTF are you so wound up about AR-15s if your real thing is hunting and shooting clays? You realize that people hunted and shot clays ALL through the dark days of the Brady Bill era? I mean, I did. More people, actually, if going by share of people hunting as a hobby. That number is falling off a cliff. Go join Ducks Unlimited or some shit. Hunting’s biggest enemy is a lack of interest and a loss of wild spaces. No one’s coming for your bird guns. None of this is about hunting or trap shooting and you fucking know it.

  31. He'll start finding out that his unhappy, blue check minions, who are so incapable of getting laid that they've made a religion out of it, are inconsolable, miserable whiners who interpret a change in the breeze as a profound betrayal. But that's the crowd he couldn't resist stroking off. Any responsible form of corporate management from this point will appear to them as a globalist, deep state operation. Best of luck, fish lips. Live in it, dude.

  32. Really? You don’t think that gun-owning parents who have teens going through stages of angst should take responsibility and lock their guns away and hide the key? Because 1) that prevents youth suicides, and 2) I sure as fuck did it. But, glad to know you don’t care about kids getting dad’s gun and ending it all. After all…they aren’t YOUR kids, and as we’ve established, we could be talking about all the pain, loss, and suffering in the world, and so long as it isn’t YOUR kids, you don’t care. Hell, you NEGATIVE care.

  37. Just talked to MAC. He's got 99 problems but bein' dead ain't one. Still obviously lots of health challenges, but he says he's seeing some slight improvement here and there. We talked about BBQ, catfish, brunswick stew, burgoo, the Civil War, the Big Thicket, Tennessee's inherent recruiting problems in Knoxville ("hillbillies are mean, and annoying on the field, but ultimately of no consequence...) and a few other things. Also, his doctor said he could eat whatever he wanted so he sent out for a Whataburger double patty melt with jalapenos.
