  1. To be clear, USC did make a run at CDC. Liucci probably heard that from the USC side and ran with it, trying to make it a story. Problem is, Liucci doesn't understand critical differences between ATM and Texas at core levels. He's got an asymmetrical information gap working against him and there is no way in hell he will ever be able to see it or understand it. His insecurity and bias would never allow for that kind of learning. He heard "we're targeting Del Conte" from one of the USC losers and immediately assumed that, and needed to see that, USC would sweep CDC off of his feet. Why? 1) He watched it happen at ATM, "so why wouldn't it also happen at Texas?" and 2) He knows somewhere deep down that Del Conte is damned good at what he does, so it benefitted his outlook to believe that he'd leave. Texas isn't ATM, Billdo. Texas isn't a little dicked little brother constantly getting sand kicked in its face by the rest of the world on every level. USC is a fucking mess. Texas can always match the money side of it. Texas is the premier athletic department in the country and still, Del Conte gets to be responsible for helping it transition into a better place and has his legacy stamped all over it. Del Conte doesn't need to go somewhere else to be fulfilled in his ambitions. You dumb, insecure motherfucker.

  6. My grandfather was on Omaha Beach. He was second in command of his boat coming ashore. Minute they hop out, the highest command was shot and killed. How my grandfather survived is beyond me. He never talked about the war until he was about 75. Then, it was all he wanted to talk about, He passed away about 5 years ago and I would give anything to hear those stories again. After he passed, we were cleaning out a storage locker and there was a tote in the back that had every letter he had written my grandmother and his mother from his deployment. The amount of courage that generation had is truly astounding. He was in living hell, and his letters were so upbeat and positive because he didn't want them to worry more about him. They are now among my most prized possessions. RIP Dr. Joe, we loved you so much.

  7. I didn’t see this in all the news about the dam. Hoping it comes through— the Hornet is a great aircraft for them and there’s more of them floating around (and more to become available) than you may realize. Finland, Canada, and Spain all fly them right now, the Finns are going F-35 and the Canadians likely will too.

  8. Blowing a dam and flooding lowlands is a defensive action, meant to impede freedom of offensive movement. Ukraine has no reason to blow the dam, and many reasons not to blow it. Without that water, the economic value of Crimea just fell considerably. Once Ukraine retakes Crimea, they will have to provide drinking and agricultural water, and this makes doing so much more difficult and costly. Ukraine doesn't need that challenge added to the list. Finally, the damage done to the dam was too extensive to be the result of shelling. That came from well placed and coordinated demolition charges. This is Ruzzia doing their raccoon imitation: If they can’t eat it, drink it, fuck it, or steal it, then shit on it and fuck it up.

  11. We all know Ukraine was corrupt. We all know Ukraine is STILL corrupt. Lets not pretend that having been so closely associated with Russia and the Soviet Union didn't put stupid shit into some of their DNA. The difference is that they have TWICE now fought for freedom, real freedom, and as you said they've come together. There will still be a ton of work to do rooting out the corruption even if the war ended tomorrow on the unconditional surrender of Russia. But they want to be better. That is more than Russia has ever wanted.

  12. The Germans were prepared to fight companies, battalions, regiments, and divisions with objectives that could be deduced and anticipated. They had no answer for small groups of paratroopers from different units who got together and said, "OK. We don't know where we are, or where our objective is, so until someone gets a handle on the situation, let's just fuck up every German position that we can find."

  20. Because we objected so loudly when the Soviet Union looted eastern Germany (and Poland, and Czechoslovakia, and Hungary)? Ukraine is rapidly getting to the point where it receives the treatment from the United States that has historically been reserved only for Israel. We arm it. It does whatever the fuck it wants. And then we run interference for it whenever anyone in the international community objects. The difference is that Russia has nuclear weapons, and the Palestinian Authority (happily) doesn't. But as I think we've seen, there are no red lines. If Russia were willing to use nuclear weapons to defend its state borders, it would've done so already. It hasn't. And it won't. And that means that Ukraine can take whatever it wants. And it means that the United States will provide cover in the international community for Ukraine taking whatever it wants.

  21. Russia has no response for Ukraine taking the fight to them. I understand the US's hesitancy and desire for restraint, but at this point, we need to stop making Ukraine fight with one arm tied behind their back. Russia can't even defend their own border. Ukraine should start from Kharkiv, head right into russia, and then blow south into Luhansk and wreck fucking shop.

  22. Grandpa GR went ashore later in the day on D Day and sent arty at the krauts from Normandy to the Rhineland. Two Bronze Stars. Came home and never told a soul about anything. We had to read his DD214 to find that out. He's buried out at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

  23. Let's not forget our Marines - the invasion of Okinawa was a larger in almost every way to Normandy. Or the initial island invasions such as Peleliu or Tarawa, where the coral atolls forced the Marine's to exit their craft hundreds of yards off the defended coastline, wading through pre-bracketed shores with ZERO cover. It wasn't until later campaigns that the Japanese figured out that letting them land, establish a beachhead, and them hammer then as we saw on Iwo.
