Lets see how the people of Chippewa county voted As you starve, can’t buy your family medication from the influx of diseases that you chose to not vaccinate against, and the bank repossesses your farm and home, you can rest assured there’s no trans athletes in your defunded public schools. 2. Anyone else have the Governor of Maine as one of the first gutsy enough to stand up to a bully? Trump called her out face to face and tried to get her to comply with his Title IX orders regarding transgender participation in sports and she pushed back and said no way, see you in court. Later that day she released a statement: “I have spent my career – as a District Attorney, as Attorney General, and now as Governor – standing up for the rule of law in Maine and America. To me, that is fundamentally what is at stake here: the rule of law in our country. “No President – Republican or Democrat – can withhold Federal funding authorized and appropriated by Congress and paid for by Maine taxpayers in an attempt to coerce someone into compliance with his will. It is a violation of our Constitution and of our laws, which I took an oath to uphold. “Maine may be one of the first states to undergo an investigation by his Administration, but we won’t be the last. Today, the President of the United States has targeted one particular group on one particular issue which Maine law has addressed. But you must ask yourself: who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you? Will it be because of your race or your religion? Will it be because you look different or think differently? Where does it end? In America, the President is neither a King nor a dictator, as much as this one tries to act like it – and it is the rule of law that prevents him from being so. “I imagine that the outcome of this politically directed investigation is all but predetermined. My Administration will begin work with the Attorney General to defend the interests of Maine people in the court of law. But do not be misled: this is not just about who can compete on the athletic field, this is about whether a President can force compliance with his will, without regard for the rule of law that governs our nation. I believe he cannot.”

  3. Anastasis is a coward, that is ultimately the core of all simpering and wheedling both-sidesing. It is the fear of confronting the world in its complexity, light, and shadows and making any decision or taking any action that might have consequences to accept. So he hides and opts out, allegedly out of moral indignity that a perfect course of action isn’t available to him. It is the cowardice of the teenager who says he doesn’t want to try out for the football team because he doesn’t want to play with losers. It’s the sniveling undergrad who has a critique for every point raised in his 4 level philosophy class but never finds one he’s willing to pick up and defend. The only issue I’ve seen where he will take an unambiguous stance is Palestine. Even there the cowardice wins eventually because he refuses to stand up for the imperfect Americans who DON’T openly call for Gaza’s ethnic cleansing. The neutrality and ironic distance is a mask but the cowardice always wins. When forced, the cowards always—- always— tepidly, with reserves, line up behind the bullies. They know that the bullies might harm them while the fair will forgive cowardice. Thus, Trump is of course the lesser imperfection. Thus, begrudgingly, let’s admit that Putin was always going to win and had his reasons to fight. And they know they are cowards and cowardice is a vice and they hate themselves for it. So their critiques and detachment are laced with self-loathing and anger. Delivering a critique can’t even be done directly. They express self-loathing by lashing out at anyone who is brave enough to make a choice. Ukraine being the best current acid test. An imperfect nation, with an outcome uncertain even if they prevail, standing against a bully and a tyrant who will likely win. But Ukrainians made the choice to make a choice, to face the fury, to not find a reason to cringe. And more than anything, cowards hate being confronted with the reality that not everyone is a coward.

  6. @Ag with kids remember when you supported gerrymandering congressional districts to align the congressional delegation to the "school of thought" represented by the state's vote in presidential elections? This kind of non-representation is the certain outcome - they don't need to represent their district, or even show up, because their districts aren't real places anymore. Their districts are just are just demographic packages designed to support national party interests to the exclusion of local interests. Congrats!

  14. Well, his typical complaint against "neocon foreign policy" is leveled at US adventurism ostensibly in support of spreading democracy, nation-building, and the "rules based world order." This seems a valid criticism as the adventurism often leads to great loss of life among civilian/native populations and long-term resentment of the US. Not sure how any of that applies to Ukraine. The defense against Russia seems to be one of the most righteous wars fought since WWII anywhere on earth.

Remember when he told advertisers to go fuck themselves, and now wants to sue companies for not advertising? He is also surrounded by 20 yr old children who he empowered to like him because they were largely unhireable by anyone else due to their ethical failures, he hires people to play video games for him so he can claim to be the best at something. And he is targeting government organizations which have or are investigating his malfeasance. He didn't buy hair plugs and try to remove images of himself because he gave no fucks. He absolutely cares. He is an empty vessel of a person and probably watches old Andrew Dice Clay comedy specials and thinks that is masculinity defined.

  20. Very early in my career, I worked for telecom company where new management took over and required daily updates like what Elon is requiring. Some of us spent more time writing daily updates than actual work. It takes a lot of time to throughly document the most mundane tasks. - Launched email client. Synched email client with mail server. Began reading email marked as unread. Discovered an email stating my password in the ticketing system was going to expire. Made a note to log into ticketing system to change password at a later time. Continued to analyze the importance of various internal emails I received. Began Multitasking by checking the voice mails on my desk phone while sorting and analyzing email.

  21. I could probably fill this thread up with my own stories. Here's another one. After my wife finished her undergrad, then Masters, I decided to go back to school and get a teaching degree. I did it via a satellite program where I took classes in Knoxville for a degree from Tennessee Tech - the Texas Tech of Tennessee. Anyway, final month at school and we're required to meet on TN Tech's campus in Cookeville. There's 1,000+ in this huge conference room. Guy with the mike is blabbing about something. I'm, as usual, playing around and talking with my friends. Suddenly, a ball comes flying through the air. I catch it, extremely proud of myself for the quick reaction. I then hear, "Whoever caught that ball, please come to the stage". Oh shit. What have I gotten myself into? Conversation goes something like this... Moderator: I'm going to pretend like I'm a principal and I'm interviewing you for your first teaching job. Me: Uh, ok. Moderator: Tell me why you wanted to be a teacher. Me w/ my brain completely frozen: Uh... I uh. Well, once my wife finished school and began teaching, she told me I needed a career, so I thought, well, hell, I may as well teach. It doesn't look too hard. The entire room went absolutely silent - except for my small group of friends in the back who were absolutely losing it. Moderator was all, "Uh, ok. Who wants to go next?"

  29. since we’re telling stories from that time period, one time a few guys wouldn’t stfu during study hall, and the coaches said that everyone was going to have to pay for it. jared norton stood up and more or less said, “fuck that, i ain’t getting punished for these dumbasses”, and he told on the guys who wouldn’t stfu, one of whom was montre webber. now i don’t know if everyone here is familiar with these two, but webber was probably 6’2”, and like 190 lbs iirc. meanwhile norton was something like 6’3”, 235 lbs, and one of those quiet, nerdy guys who you just shouldn’t piss off. well, montre took exception to this and confronted jared norton outside of jester, and when i tell you that jared norton beat the BRAKES off of montre webber…boy. i have never seen an ass whooping like that. norton got webber on the ground almost immediately and then just proceeded to pummel him with a flurry of fists that seemed impossibly fast for a man of his size. nobody fucked with jared norton again after that lol.

  30. To the Bitter End if We Must; Anonymous Statement from an American Medic Serving in Ukraine’s Military This is a statement from an American currently serving as a medic in an assault brigade in Ukraine’s military. He has requested to remain anonymous. The statement is unedited and contains his thoughts on recent actions by the USA’s government regarding support for Ukraine. If you are serving in Ukraine and would like to make an anonymous submission, reach out to protectavolunteer@gmail.com with your Signal number or ask another volunteer with my contact information to share it with you. ***** I love America, my country, my home, but I cannot love what it is becoming. I cannot love what the world is becoming. And I refuse to accept it. We should all refuse to accept it. For years, democracy has been eroding in the world. With truth being buried beneath waves of propaganda, misinformation dulling outrage into apathy. Apathy is the lifeblood of fascism. Action is the only way to push it back. I never thought my country would fall so far, so fast. Yet here I sit, dug into the earth, my phone buzzing with more bad news by the hour. America is turning its back on democracy. It is turning its back on Ukraine. I fear that soon it will embrace russian imperialism and through that be complicit in the genocide of the Ukrainian people. My job in this war is small but simple. We retrieve the wounded and the dead from the line, doing what we can to keep them breathing until we can reach MEDEVAC. In doing this, we see the true cost of this war. I have lost count of the men and women I have carried, of the wounds they will bear for the rest of their lives, on their bodies and in their souls. But this is not about my story, only my perspective. I have seen bravery here with my own eyes that defies belief. Ukrainians and foreign volunteers alike standing firm, fighting not just for their brothers and sisters, but for all who refuse to kneel to fascism. It is the duty of all free people to spit in the face of tyrants, and the people of Ukraine as well as the many foreign volunteers, perform this duty with a vigor that is nothing short of inspiring. My country should be proud of them. My country should be standing beside them. Instead, I feel shame for the choices it has made and the claims made by our president. I will always be proud to be an American. But my country is failing Ukraine. It is failing itself. The people here fight for a better tomorrow, a tomorrow that too many will never see. A tomorrow that, god willing, can exist for the people who live after us. We must fight for that reality, because the alternative is a life in chains, under someone’s boot. We must fight, and we will continue to fight, to the bitter end if we must. Слава україні, Героям слава, And God bless America.

  31. Happy someone already translated this so that I didn't have to: I mean, we must not buy into the arguments I keep hearing everywhere. The Ukrainian president was elected through free elections in Ukraine. He was not the favorite at all; I remember it like it was yesterday. And so, he is a president elected in a free system, which is not the case for Vladimir Putin—who kills his political opponents and has been manipulating his elections for a long time. Unfortunately, this is also the case in other countries around the world. Later, because war broke out in his country, he had to impose martial law. Do you think he can organize presidential or legislative elections in a country where many Ukrainians have fled for their safety? In a country where millions more have been mobilized at the front? Where there are thousands of casualties every day? And where entire regions of his territory are occupied by Russia? **What are we talking about?!?** Do you think that, in the same situation, we would be holding elections? He cannot hold elections. So, if we want free elections in Ukraine, we need lasting peace in Ukraine. Anyone calling for elections before that is manipulating the situation. And what is the goal of some? We know it very well: a ceasefire that will not be respected. QUICK, QUICK—elections, just to manipulate them. That is not a good idea. So yes, President Zelensky is legitimate, and we want more democracy in Ukraine over time, thanks to lasting peace. And President Zelensky also wants democracy in Ukraine—because he himself is the product of it. If the system had been manipulated, he would never have been elected president.
