  2. I got my boy out from La Junta. As far as I can tell the whole camp got to high ground well in advance of the bad stuff and watched the camp get obliterated. My son is 8 and they took the younger kids to the backside facing away from the camp and river and did a bunch of games and songs etc. One of the first things he said to me was he asked if they’re still doing the fireworks tonight. I love that camp.

  3. We are talking about CR because we have a bunch of bitch ass snowflakes that are offended by reality. The fact they cant see the reality is the problem. Also cry less pussies. Kids died and we have a bunch of grandstanding politicians ignoring their own malfeasance and having the audacity to claim some sort of political win all while making it all about them. They throat the very person that is actively gutting the very thing that could potentially prevent this. What a backwards world we live in that we claim CR on that. Fuck you and I hope you reap the oats you sow you fucking animals.

  4. A post from a friend… This is a tragedy beyond tragedy's. Violent storms on the evening of 7/3 flooded the Guadalupe River which Camp Mystic rests on. The damn broke and all the younger girl cabins down on the "Flats" as they call it were basically submerged. From my daughter Tiny, "Water rose up to the door mom. The only way out was to break the back window and climb out. It was am and I couldn't find my shoes. I was so scared but I kept going. I had my retainers in but didn't want to lose them, so l put them in the pocket of my pajamas. We climbed through the window and headed up the hill. The rocks really hurt my feet and I was so cold and shivering. We got to the top of the mountain and our counselor Annabelle was with us and was so awesome. She kept us safe under a tree. We huddled shivering and singing songs in the dark. Mom I thought I was going to die I was so scared. The thunder and lightening was so loud. Once it got lighter out we made our way back down to the Cypress side of camp and then Annabelle through us over the river and we ran into the dining hall of Cypress where we sat in the dark. They found me some dry clothes. We all just sat there waiting and waiting for hours. Then we were told we were getting on helicopters. Mom I didn't know if I would see you again."

  5. I'm heartbroken by this event, like many here not one of us 4 in my family doesn't know someone at most 2 Kevin Bacon steps from ourselves who is dealing with loss of human life. So much I could post, including why this storm was so bad - we get lots of Mexican landfall tropical systems that come in early hurricane season and don't. I'll pick that up maybe in a few days if interest. Not definitive answers but good estimates. Mainly I wanted to give a few words on today for ATX and immediate areas: This storm's center is almost on top of us, moving very slowly ENE. It's been bubbling today, that is the early a.m. concentration was up in San Saba/Burnet areas, and now seems to have formed another "barbell end" S/SE of ATX east of San Antonio in the Lower Guadalupe/Blanco area. Watch there in particular the next few hours and take care. However, there are some training storms N to S in W. Travis/Hays. Right now they're not too sated and are moving; however in some spots they're in a long line and could strengthen and douse a given area. It's next to impossible to know exactly where the "reds" will boil up and move. So stay near home or off roads where running water comes into play. Barry's remnants have lost a little punch in the last few hours, but there's always the danger of a "bomb spot" especially as diurnal heating takes place today over the system. Fortunately they ground around us is cooler from the past days' rains and might help reduce the intensity. This storm will slowly slide east of the 35 corridor by sunset or so, and being on the "backside" of it, will definitely decrease the totals. Tomorrow can see more rain but not what we've seen, even in Austin. By Monday this should be reduced to spotty light/medium showers widely scattered. Any questions etc. I'll try to check in. My heart and prayers go out for the grief that you can just feel over this region today. Godspeed to loved ones dealing with this.

  6. When Fasusi went to OU last year we all were mostly okay with it because of a 2026 OL we wanted and that OL wasn’t Felix Ojo. Pumped to have Turntine in the class. Checks a lot boxes on and off the field.

  11. She and her late husband have been family friends since my dad moved us here in ‘88. I left here when I graduated high school, and never looked back. Until I moved back here a year and a half ago. This is a wonderful place (politics excluded), to raise a child as a family, or a single dad like myself. I went to sleep last night and it was sprinkling. I woke up periodically throughout the night to a torrential downpour. At 8am this morning, my backyard was underwater. That’s when the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I reached out to my firefighter friend, and questioned the three flash flood alerts I’d received starting at 3am. I wasn’t able to do shit, other than load and unload stuff for the first responders. I had to stand down when it came to getting into the fray. I’m having a lot of trouble with what’s going on. I was able to watch a woman rescued via helicopter, from a tree. It reminded me of the footage from 87. People who I’ve known all my life, and consider family, have lost their homes. If these Mystic kids are gone, I’m going to lose my shit. I don’t really pray anymore, but I’ll do whatever it takes to just get some good news. I absolutely hate feeling helpless, and that’s how I feel right now. I woke up today, and planned on a day of drinking. Man, that changed. Sorry for the rant, but it’s been a fucking day.

  13. The body of my daughter’s friend has been found. I haven’t seen her image in any of the social media postings which makes me realize that there are just so many babies still out there we haven’t even seen yet. Those poor sweet girls, those poor families 🙁

  14. I just got mugged at the chevron getting gas before rental drop in beautiful Oakland. I had looked around and there was nobody suspicious and after I got the pump in my hand, a black sedan pulled up and two guys jumped out and ran at me…Teenagers with hoods and masks. We were so tight between the gas pump in the car that they really couldn’t use their advantage in numbers, one kid grabbed my left arm and was trying to take my watch off while the second kid was trying to grab m. The one kid kept struggling to figure out how to take off my watch for like 15 seconds while I kept trying to pull away an FU them. About that time I realized I had the gas nozzle in my right hand and pumped gas on the nearest one’s head, screaming, “ I’ve got a lighter... I want us to die!!” The car next to me had started honking his horn, and so both of them ran off and jumped in the black car which took off like an Indy car and almost got in a wreck. It turns out the second one had gotten my watch off my wrist before he ran. The whole thing could not have lasted more than 20 to 30 seconds. so that was different. But I kept my phone and credit cards and ID to get on the plane so all is good and I’m drinking a glass of wine at the airport. My $50 watch looked like an Omega - so they only focused on it and not my wallet. Feel free to share your I got mugged story.

  17. I love how you show up to chastise emotional posters here for not giving you information, but you don’t extend that expectation to your elected officials who spend the 30 minutes of a press conference giving no information. I’ve lived through Harvey, which had a new press conference every few hours. I guess my experience with emergency press conferences differs from yours, since apparently your’s all start with a 30 minute dick sucking session and providing zero information about things like missing or dead citizens.

  18. Sad but true - it’s actually four, not three. Two of the girls were confirmed deceased in the last couple of hours, and two still missing with little hope. I don’t even know what to do and I feel guilty being so happy that we picked up my kids safe from CLH today. Beyond heartbreaking and going to affect so many for generations. 💔

  19. We lost everything in the fires in January. FEMA definitely helps in the immediate aftermath. Just stick with them. They will follow through, it just takes time. All the agencies that are meant to help right now are dealing with shakeups. SBA Disaster loans are HUGE for people that need to rebuild/relocate. You can get loans to help at 2.56% over 30 years. Can't stress how helpful that will be for the recovery. And yes you can use it to relocate. Obviously, now is the time to find those that are missing and make sure everyone's immediate needs are met. But if you have friends dealing with the loss of a home, share this site with them: https://uphelp.org/ I know flood insurance is treated differently than other calamities, but that website will be one of the most helpful things you could share over the next 2 years for them. It has step-by-step roadmaps for recovery. It's a non-profit run by survivors of disasters. Also, offer to babysit their kids for free while they talk with their spouses about what the fuck they're going to do. Recovery is like having another full time job.

  21. One thing I meant to mention was the amount of support I observed driving my trailer from Comfort to Ingram. You cannot go a quarter mile without a smoker billowing, Webbers, pop tents, coolers full of tamales, etc. All just good people, strangers and residents alike, just trying to help. Each and everyone one of these places had someone waving a sign that said, “FREE FOOD AND WATER”. No questions, no nothing. Just please allow us to help in our own way. I almost had to pull over. It’s fucking dusty right now just typing this out.

  22. Day's Final Update: - Convection/rainfall has greatly diminished this evening as hoped & mentioned in my previous post. Latest NWS guidance keeps open the possibility of scattered heavy rain just like last night, although factors aren't as strong. This means hopefully spottier rains. But I expect it to pick up in the post-midnight hours as influx of warm, moist air re-feeds the column of saturated mid-level core. - However, the system hasn't moved much, in fact seems to have wobbled a bit SW to just west of Round Rock. Unfortunately the trough I hoped would pull it up is just too weak in this part of the country to drag it out - there's just nothing to influence moving it away right now. So what's going to happen is default - a high pressure ridge to our east is going to slowly work its way in from the Mississippi Valley region and nudge the system back westward. It's weakened somewhat but by no means isn't still strong enough for another round of flooding rain - but not to the destructive degree before. - However, this means again more heavy rain for some part of the Hill Country - were exactly is impossible to predict (models are suggesting the more northern quadrant again)- possible early a.m. tomorrow. Flood watches are now well into Sunday afternoon/early evening. I think ATX will escape the worst, lying just to the east of the core (again!) - our flood risk is a 1, vs. 2 or 3 west of Travis/Williamson. This is still a potentially dangerous situation west of 281 for tomorrow. Unfortunately, this thing is going to die a slow, gradual death, not finally GTFO. But again, the hopeful prediction here is less than the last 2 rain bombs. Sunday will see this system move over the Hill Country and hopefully a little weaker. It'll either finally meander SW and die out or kick up towards the panhandle, then out. But that's for tomorrow, hopefully I can get a handle on how this thing is gonna end once and for all. Finally, I know adults are among the deceased and I grieve for them as well, I just want to leave this in memory of those lovely little gals who've perished in this disaster. We remember you. (This was my daughter's favorite stuffed animal when she was at that age.)

  24. I’m still in the process of processing. Took this afternoon off from the news and social media. Grew up going to Hunt. First to pick up my sister from Mystic (and I still hate James Avery as a result) then going to Stewart, then my nieces at Mystic and nephew at La Junta. My dad lives in Kerrville (it got interesting, but he is ok). Sister and nieces grew up and worked at Mystic. Know the Eastlands. Know the Ragsdales. Know some of the families. Have friends that are in Hunt and flooded but are ok. As they have said “everything you loved is gone or destroyed.” So happy that the posters here, like Homesick (who I know) and Blackcat (who I don’t - maybe) are ok and with their families. I know what these camps stand for and hope they all continue. I don’t like letting tragedies win. Tale care everyone and hug those you care about.

  25. Thats what is taking place. Ive been out there twice now and my body is completely out of whack at this point. You just cant help but expect the worst. The search teams are working extremely hard but in my opinion the reason the officials arent being more forthcoming, is because they're trying to figure out when they have to tell everyone they cant even find most of the bodies. Its my expectation that we lost a lot of wonderful people and a lot of beautiful little girls. Its such an important place to so many people, for so many thats their happy spot. Especially talking to the Mystic people, something that brought them true joy has brought them devastation on a level that they just cant comprehend yet. Theyre just paralyzed. And the bad news just keeps coming in. Sorry if Im sounding dramatic, but I do think something dramatic has taken place that will leave a major scar.

  31. If we’re talking about systems state officials have available…just treat life-threatening floods like they react whenever a cop gets shot: Blaming the NWS is chickenshit. But the next time I see Texas state officials take responsibility for dropping the ball will be the first.

  34. Hi everyone. We live between Ingram & Hunt. Here is how you can help: We are set up at City West Church with food for first responders. Other locations that are feeding folks are The Kerr County Youth Event Center (The Ag Barn) and Cross Kingdom Church. We have plenty of volunteers and food at City West. There may be needs at the other two locations. For those wanted to help with search, please meet at the Centerpoint Fire Dept tomorrow morning. Harry Holt is the coordinator. Ask for Harry when you get to the station. We had around 200 searchers today, but will not have the folks tomorrow, so help is greatly needed. There are piles of debris 20-25 feet high and this all needs to be gone through. We do not need any equipment, just people willing to work. For those inclined, please give to a nonprofit that will help Kerr County folks and not pocket the $. REK's non profit is good (he is a local). Another is Blind Faith Foundation, which is located in Ingram and the head of it is a friend of mine. For those that cannot give or help out, we would appreciate your prayers. I have been around for over six decades and have never seen devastation like this. God Bless Ya'll. West Kerr Horn

  36. Oh fuck off. Your guys are already literally blaming this on evil Biden weather modification and shit. Whereas the sane people are noting that state authorities have an easy mechanism to send statewide alerts out: they use it whenever a cop gets a hangnail, even in the middle of the night. But for this? Nada from state authorities. This state is poorly run, and it’s getting exponentially worse by the day. The only thing holding shit together are some local governments - which are run mostly by regular Texans, your neighbors - and volunteer decent Texans. There will be a shitload of failure analysis after this, but don’t worry your little head, nobody in the group that has run this state for the past 30+ years will take any responsibility. We’ll just hear the new official state motto: “It could have been worse.” My fellow Texans are fucking dying, and not one of those fuckers cares about anything but themselves. Makes me want to puke.
