Look, people follow leaders and  messaging that is clear, tangible and immediate.

They don’t understand the magic words or care about checking the boxes The Groups want checked. They don’t follow ideological abstraction and they don’t want to support politicians who run away from the language of class.

Cuomo talks about real stuff that matters using short words and definitive, meaning statements people understand.

he’s too damaged and too much of a New Yorker  to win a national race, but his messaging is good.

I'm still chuckling about these posts, as if Zohran didn't present a coherent message that resonates with voters. I love it when liberals try to silence progressives by falsely claiming they only care about "magic words" or pandering to "The Groups" and don't understand their insane bigotry.

Hold this L.

More than likely because they don't have the time to pay much attention to politics and just cast their vote for the guy whose name they recognize, doubly so because he doesn't have a scary brown mooslem name.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts, but too alarmist. Zohrans had their run along the West Coast 2018-22 and totally failed. Seems like a nice guy but the type of leader that is going to set us up for success.

Considering NYC Mayor is where all careers go to die, he ended up elevating his profile and is probably the biggest winner in all of this.

the reason being is the entire NY Democratic Party is full of corrupt grifters. Which is why they all lined up behind corrupt grifter Cuomo. If Mamdani cleans house and makes marginal improvements in NYC’ers lives that is going to have wide ranging impact nationwide against the old guard democratic machine.

NYC mayor is notoriously difficult to break out of, none of them went on to do greater things after it, their most famous mayor, Time magazine's person of the year. turned out to be the biggest loser in all of politics, a fluffer for the the orange idiot. There has to be a pattern somehow that NYC really is the A&M of political careers.

Yes, he has just done a great job of demonstrating the former. Need more of that everywhere.

The GOP and DNC aren't afraid that NYC will fail under Zohran's policies. They're afraid of what people nationwide will expect if it thrives under Zohran's policies.

It's the perfect position for someone like Mamdani. He can't run for President, and NYC mayor is a job where you can have a real impact on millions of people's lives in a very visible way as a Democrat and set an example that people actually pay attention to.

Time is an expensive and limited resource.

Cuomo? I know that guy. He’s a dick but eh. Nursing home deaths? Old people die all the time. Sexual harassment? Don’t all politicians do that now?

I haven't looked into the data for this race, but do progressives in general have a problem with (particularly older) Black voters? That was kind of the story of the 2020 presidential primary, right?

The political establishment has incredibly deep ties to certain voting blocs.

I am a little concerned that the wrong message is gonna be sent by the far left with this Mamdani primary victory. They might think their messaging and policies is what the rest of America wants too, but NYC is its own thing and doesn't represent the rest of the country.

The message should be: Don't be scared. Vote for who you want to lead, not who you think will appease others. Shake things up and reject the old establishment. It can lead to a tidal wave of momentum.

This is the biggest gift Dems could possibly give R's heading into midterms with an unpopular president. In NYC of all places. Cue the fear porn about far left muslim socialists taking over the D party and it will be effective.   The left on this board can cheer this kind of stuff on all you want but it kills you with the average American that may not like Trump but will never get behind socialism and pronouns. Tidal wave of momentum is laughable.

This is the same idiotic ideas that got Kamala doing town halls with Liz Cheney with a week left in the campaign. Be proud to not be Republican lite. Call Trump and maga out on all their terrible shit.

Cuomo was a fucking terrible candidate and got bitch slapped as a result. Bill Clinton, James Carville, Chuck Schumer want it to be 1995 and it’s not anywhere fucking close.

Good luck with that.  Kamala trying to appeal to the center right anti-trump is the only thing that kept the election from being a bigger blowout.

So they should have gone with the rapist piece of shit with a 60% unfavorability that is backed by the same billionaires that put Trump in office? Great idea, no notes.

She lost because turnout was down among left-leaning and progressive groups.

No, working class people pivoted to MAGA, in 2016 it was white working class, in 2024 it was ALSO hispanic working class. At this current rates the black working class is headed there as well.

Worrying about bigger blowouts is irrelevant and inexcusable when we are talking about losing to Orange Hitler. Anybody that went "lets minimize losses" instead of "win or we all die" in 2020/2021 needs to be evicted from the party for incompetence.

NYC isn’t very representative of the country, so I honestly don’t think this says anything about national politics. But what it really underscores is the stupidity of partisan elections at the municipal level and the strong mayor system in big cities.
What NYC deserves and can’t get is an apolitical professional city manager.

You don’t have to answer because you’ll get neg bombed if you admit it and if you don’t I won’t believe you anyways, but a) do you put yourself in this category and b) did you vote for Kamala?

if I were to guess, I would say that you lie even to yourself about being one of these mythical Americans and you would tell us that you didn’t vote at all but you actually voted for Trump.

You did a very poor job of reading my post.

They will call any Dem candidate a socialist, no matter what the messaging or policy ideas actually are. At some point you just have to call their bluff. Yes, the fear porn will come. So fucking what. Trying to appease "centrists" or anti-Trump Republicans has led to a decade of Trump. The right has gone to war for decades and it's way past time for the left to stand strong and fight back. That doesn't mean running self-described socialists everywhere. It means we need authentic fresh faces who won't cower to the right or "the middle".

BABY BASKETS FOR NEWBORNS!  AN IDEA RIPPED FROM THE SOCIALISTMARXISTCOMMUNIST HELLSCAPE THAT IS.....[lemme google that]....Finland.

Finnish-National-Museum-BabyBox-Display-

We are firmly at the point in the timeline where, if a policy idea is NOT a funnel of wealth directly into the pockets of billionaires, it's EVIL SOCIALISM AND MUST BE STOPPED.

The way you can tell any policy is a horrible, no good, very bad thing is by discerning whether it helps anyone.  If it does....it's VERY VERY BAD.

If you told literally any person in a modern country outside of America that having free health care is socialist and bad they'd look at you like you had 3 heads. It's so crazy how we behave in this country. Everything that doesn't directly serve capital interest is COMMUNIST.

I think there's strong possibility that the average voter has no idea what they actually want from politicians until they see it. There was a point in time where if you had suggested him to even the most ardent of today's Trump supporters, they would have asked you what the fuck you were blathering about. The guy that sells neckties at JCPenney?

Personally, I'm not as progressive as Zohran Mamdani. But staying the course and worrying about what the GOP will say has resulted in getting our teeth kicked in repeatedly for the last decade. How much worse can things get? Fuck it, let's shake things up.

You can always tell how threatened the trumpers are by how much they whine about certain candidates being "too far left". Yes, caring about people who you are elected to represent instead of corporate interests is just "too far left". God forbid someone looks at trump and his garbage ass and says "I have no interest in appeasing any of that shit".

Yes to both.  And there are a shit ton of like minded people that would never vote for a socialist.   I've already seen a few Democrats rejecting this nonsense because they know it is political suicide.
