The Democratic Party

Yea, what the media should be doing and what Angus King should be doing behind the scenes (I-Maine) is eschewing the benefits of being partisan for a person in her position. Alaska loves her. Alaska had a coalition of independent and Dems on their state legislature before the 2020 election.Alaska elected her in a goddamn write in vote. Alaska is conservative, but theyre not assholes. They get “socialist” 1000 dollar checks from the state every year for drilling oil( I believe mostly higher than that, only 1k in 2020). She can be a Senate Majority Leader just as much as Manchin or Sinema or anyone on a split vote. She just needs to get the internal balls (which she has) to make Mitch and Chuck dance like a puppet

Actually it does. A number of politicians would never sit down with investigative reporters of any color. So, it is going down a similar road. Holding Mayor Lightfoot to a higher standard gains her nothing.

So exclusion based on race for me, but not for thee...

Got it.  Carry on.

She is not denying coverage in total, only one on one access to in depth interviews. The governor of Florida only granted access to Fox News recently. All of their reporters in their pool are white (not the broadcast booth). Is exclusion by default any different? Maybe. But she will get some heads talking about the diversity of their newsrooms.

I am watching so many white males suddenly wake up to being sidelined and having an issue about it. Welcome to the damn club.

I may be too close to this topic to be unbiased, but after so many years of 'get over it' I guess had others been a little more cognizant of other perspectives over the years, I suspect I would have more sympathy to where we find ourselves now.

It's going to take some time for our society to work it out, but go ahead and cry if you need to.

Abbott has told reporters to pound sand for most of this session and has had two Facebook exclusives for bill signings this session and last

Yeah, on the one hand I don't like the way this has been trending overall with media blackouts (there, that was my both sides moment) but the 'oh look here' with respect to typically marginalized groups doesn't play with me right now. Not when the window has been yanked so far to the right that any pull back is viewed as a seismic shift.

Yea the “omg look at what the blacks are doing in Chicago” pisses me off since I lived there in my mid 20s. Cleaner, more spread out NYC with less taxes and friendlier people, just way harsher weather.

Most of the people who say that have never been to the city. It's a fascinating place.

No one who is sentient cares about ANYTHING Republicans are claiming these days, so no need to be too outraged about any particular stupidity.

The point is the performative outrage over Omar’s statement is stupid and unnecessary.  I guess they need to put little miss Muslim in her place anytime she’s critical of the United States or Israel.  It’s pathetic.

Take a look at what you've done, too.

It's a stupid fucking statement because it needless creates equivalence between the Taliban and the US.  If you'd just as soon live under Taliban governance as US governance, I would think the statement would make sense.

Could someone explain why it would be a good thing to have appropriate forums for justice that would treat all nations (and terrorists groups) with some sort of due process?  Sure, but they'd use careful words and they would need more than a tweet.  If they didn't give a shit about fucking over their most likely allies and hurting their chances of election in the next, tight election cycle, they would do a dumbass tweet.

Yes, because Dems would be completely silent if the Republicans made any hamfisted comparisons using the Taliban, or Nazis.

I'm sorry, I understand that in a grad school poly sci class we could all sit around and discuss similarities between hostile act propagated by nations and warlords, but she's a congresswoman, and in less than two years the congresspeople who sit precariously in red states are going to have to fight off the bullshit that is being thrown at them from the right, and this just doesn't help.  Unforced error.

Unforced error.

The unforced error was Pelosi and shitdems taking the bait of right wing narratives to score some fictional political points by tone policing Omar.  None of this shit is going to influence an election 18 months from now.  No moderate or right leaning person is going to say, “I want to vote Dem but that Omar is out of control, I wish Pelosi would have shown better leadership with her when she said that thing that might have hurt someone’s feelings, guess I have to vote republican now.”

I agree that it invites and facilitates reactionary attacks from the right.  Thus, POLITICALLY, it was not helpful.

But it's also true.  And as for the quoted text, here's the difference: I actually have HIGHER expectations for the US government than I do for the Taliban.  Thus, when we do shit that is Taliban-y, it's a really big problem.
