Apparently there was drama with family during his last visit to Texas and shit hit the fan.

Well I'm hearing that you're regarded

What we’re hearing on remaining Texas targets on Early Signing Day Eve

Horns247 Staff

The Longhorns are red hot on the recruiting trail and with Early Signing Day tomorrow, Horns247's Hank South and Jordan Scruggs break down what we're hearing on the eve of ESD.

Tyanthony Smith — Texas A&M commit

Even though he’s effectively gone off the radar and those around him are saying different things throughout each day, Horns247 is still expecting Jasper three-star linebacker and Texas A&M commit Tyanthony Smith to ultimately sign his National Letter of Intent to play college football for the Texas Longhorns and not the Texas A&M Aggies. With Jeff Choate balancing his new Nevada head coaching job and bowl prep for the Longhorns, it’s been a team effort from the Texas staff and with Smith’s signing ceremony planned for 6:30 P.M. CT tomorrow evening, the Longhorns continue to trend to pull off what would be the second linebacker they’ve flipped from Texas A&M in back to back recruiting cycles after Texas flipped true freshman phenom Anthony Hill from the Aggies less than a week before signing day last year. Having to replace Choate while continuing to recruit Smith has been no easy task for the Texas staff, but there’s still a lot more familiarity with the staff in Austin compared to Mike Elko’s new staff in College Station or Deion Sanders’ staff in Colorado. — Jordan Scruggs

Texas has yet to take a linebacker in the class of 2024. That could change on Wednesday. Texas A&M commit Tyanthony Smith is set to make things official with his school of choice at 6:30 p.m. CT. Jordan Scruggs and myself placed Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Texas flipping the four-star linebacker from Jasper when he opted to take an official visit to the Forty Acres over the weekend. That’s where my prediction remains. — Hank South

Trey Moore

I wouldn’t be surprised if UTSA EDGE Trey Moore committed to Texas tonight, tomorrow, or the day or days after. Simply put, everything I’ve been told leads me to believe the only thing left to happen is Moore posting a commitment graphic. Moore’s veteran presence on the Longhorns defensive line should boost the whole defense as the 6-foot-3, 235 pound edge rusher has accumulated 22 sacks, 35.5 tackles for loss, 104 tackles, 10 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one interception in 26 starts over the last two seasons for the Roadrunners. — Jordan Scruggs

The UTSA edge transfer will decide between Texas and Alabama after visiting both Austin and Tuscaloosa on back-to-back weekends. Jordan Scruggs and myself have placed Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Texas and that’s where the intel continues to point. — Hank South

Aeryn Hampton — Texas commit

One of the bigger wildcards in all of the 2024 recruiting class, there is certainly some early signing day eve buzz surrounding Alabama flipping Daingerfield four-star ATH Aeryn Hampton off of his commitment to Texas. It’s something I’ve been hearing about for a handful of weeks now from a source in East Texas but in the last few days it’s started to come from sources that aren’t just in East Texas. In the two or so years Hampton has been getting recruited he's already committed and decommitted from both Baylor and Texas. While he did of course end up recommitting to Texas this summer, he’s been viewed in my eyes as one of, if not the most likely to flip out of all of the commits in the Texas 2024 recruiting class since he gave his second pledge to Steve Sarkisian and Co. on July 7. At this point there isn’t really anything Hampton could do that would come as surprising, and on the same note we have a story already written in the scenario that Hampton flips his commitment to Alabama today or tomorrow. There’s also the scenario that Hampton could push his recruitment further into the winter as Hampton has the flexibility due to him being a regular summer enrollee, not an early enrollee. — Jordan Scruggs

If you’ve asked Hampton anytime this fall he would tell you he’s locked in with Texas. That could very well be the case, but sources around his recruitment likely wouldn’t describe his commitment status so definitively. One source told Horns247 on Tuesday they wouldn’t be surprised to see the four-star athlete flip his commitment to Alabama, the challenger on Signing Day Eve. However, a separate source around Alabama did not share much confidence in the Crimson Tide changing Hampton’s mind. Still, Hampton has de-committed from Texas (and Baylor) in the past, so it’s not anything out of the realm of possibility. Texas would like to keep Hampton in its class, so it’s not a case of numbers-crunch. — Hank South

Evan Stewart

Yes you read that right. Stewart officially showed up in the portal just minutes before releasing this. While I expect his recruitment to be somewhat of a rollercoaster like his high school recruitment was, I've been told by sources for weeks that Texas would feel great about their chances if Stewart were to ever actually enter the portal. Well now he's in there and it's time to see what happens. — Jordan Scruggs

Solomon Williams

Williams has trended to a number of schools in his recruitment, Texas included. Think the Aggies have pulled ahead on this one, though. — Hank South

Texas targets expected to sign in February:

Dominick McKinley

There was some buzz McKinley might go ahead and make a decision on Wednesday, but his mother tells Horns247 that is not the case. Texas and LSU, among others, will continue working on chipping away here. — Hank South

Alex Foster — Baylor commit

Foster told Horns247 Texas has a ‘”high” chance in his recruitment after an official visit to Austin last weekend. The Mississippi native has decided to hold off until February to sign. Baylor will work hard to keep him. — Hank South

Dealyn Evans — Texas A&M commit

Evans tells Horns247 he intends to officially visit Texas in January. The Longhorns are a “dream school” for the star DL. — Hank South

Ryan Williams — Alabama commit

It’s probably more a question of whether he will flip to Auburn than would he flip to Texas, at least in my opinion. But I don’t think Williams is going to flip away from the Tide in general. — Hank South

McKinley & fam kept repeating that they wanted to be close enough to see both boy’s games on back-to-back days. College Station being 90 to 120 minutes closer to Lafayette, LA was a major part of the decision.

Recently McKinley has mentioned SYRACUSE FUCKING NEW YORK as a school that he’s interested in.
You can drive to Austin and then back to College Station before you can drive to an airport, go through security, wait to board, board a plane, wait to take off, fly to the first of your one to two layover stops, land… change planes… make it to Syracuse.

Now they have thrown in Oklahoma City & Columbus, Ohio as possible locations that would at least be closer than Syracuse, but are still “Are you fucking kidding me?” farther away and harder to get to than Austin from Lafayette.

I am more than happy to “lose” the recruiting battle for this one. The focus doesn’t seem to be on football bringing riches as much as just riches and then… we’ll figure out prepping for the NFL later on down the road.

If Hampton flips, does that free up UT to go after Terry Bussy in the lead up to February signing day?

Texas has never pushed for Bussey, I think he is far more likely to go LSU than Texas.

Nahlin said on tonight's IT livestream that he expects UT to go after Terry Bussy if Hampton flips.

Calabasas (Calif.) athlete Aaron Butler is the top un-committed player in the state but we’ll likely have to wait a little longer to see where he will be playing his college ball.

Butler is not expected to commit and sign on Wednesday. There’s a chance he could wait all the way up to Friday, the final day of the Early Signing Period.

From talking to a source close to his recruitment, Butler is still torn on his decision. Arizona and Washington are both battling and Texas remains in the mix as well.

All three schools have been in touch with Butler this week. He just visited Arizona a week ago and really loved his time in Tucson.

He was at Washington for an unofficial visit last month and the Huskies are making a strong late push. At the time of his visit, there was a question if the Huskies had a scholarship available for him but they’re now all in on Butler.

Texas came in for a home visit two weeks ago but at the time, the Horns were also trying to figure out their scholarship situation. That still remains a fluid situation but the Horns definitely have his attention.

Butler told us on Monday that he wasn’t going to sign until he was 100% certain of his decision. At this time, he’s not close to that and reiterated that he plans to take as much time as needed before pulling the trigger.

Wingo smoke is real?

Alabama getting Ryan Williams to stick to his commitment?

Coaches want to take their time with their psychological eval of EStew?

It definitely means something.
