I would apologize if I knowingly brought my kids into that situation too.  Pretty shitty thing to bring your kids into, tbh. Right, wrong, or other, this situation on the border has been very well publicized Trumps entire tenure.

That should tell you something about the situations they are leaving.

Yeah, I mean, what kind of idiot would jump from a building [insert photo of jumpers on 9/11]?

Imagine a situation so shitty that stepping into Trump's chamber of horrors STILL is the better choice.  And there you have it.  And notably, that does absofuckinglutely nothing to absolve people who purposefully created a chamber of horrors, intentionally harming children in order to serve as a warning.

Again, we have a stated and purposeful policy of hurting innocents as a political tool.  There are other entities that do that.  I mean, we call them terrorist organizations, but there you go.  Well done, America.

Fuck you. I never said that, and the kids don’t deserve any of it. But the adult made a decision, and that decision put his kids at risk.  He should feel bad. Maybe you would drag your kids across Central America to get here, I wouldn’t.

I’m not sure I agree with your analogy of people deciding to jump to their death rather than perish in fire to people who walked thru several countries and decided to stop at the best.  Several walked right thru countries that would improve their situation (Mexico > Guatemala) drastically but kept on going until they landed here.  Also, they decided to do it.  Folks who perished in 9/11 didn’t choose shit. So no, your analogy is hyperbolic bullshit.

I dont disagree Trump is trying to fuck them for coming, I have eyes.

You're right, I'm sure they all came from privileged neighborhoods that were safe and definitely not being terrorized by drug lords. Trump LOVES to talk about how dangerous it is south of the border, but it's also a safe place that people shouldn't seek asylum from? If you'd rather just take aways people's children punitively for seeking asylum you should just own it, or make your position more clear

The people who live in a situation where they could be killed/raped/etc at a moment's notice didn't choose that either.  That's the whole freaking point.  And this isn't one or two people with bad judgment.  This is thousands, fleeing a nightmare.

A fucking SMARTER US policy would be aimed at taking significant action to stabilize their home countries so they didn't flee.  Instead, we're cutting off aid and trying to punish the weakest states in the hemisphere.  Bottom line, no policy decisions are motivated by "what would be most effective?"  They're solely motivated by "what's the fucking meanest thing we can do?"

Brisket, I’m not arguing your posts (other than your 9/11 analogy).

But it’s a hard sell that Central Americans can’t stop along the way to better their situations. Like America is the only solution. Literally every country they pass thru to the north is a better situation.

I’m sorry but I think it’s fucking stupid to drag your kids thru all this shit if 1) you know damn well trump is doing this, and it won’t stop anytime soon 2) you can drop your wife and kids in Mexico and bring them later.    If it’s me, i’m Not letting trump put my kid in a cage. The wife and kids can hang in Nuevo Laredo until I get across and see what’s happening. That’s just me though.

Let's send you to Central America with your kids (I really hope you have not reproduced, but let's assume you have) and see how long it us before your ass is doing the exact same thing. You have complete and utter ignorance of just how horrific it is there. I worked with a guy from El Salvador who related a story to me about the farm his brother runs back there. He refused to make his monthly payment to the gang that controlled where he lived. He came to the farm the following day to find several field hands murdered because of his lack of payment.

When you deal with that as your fucking reality let the rest of us know. Until then shut the fuck up about anyone bringing their family here to escape the horrors they dealt with there.

Fuck you too, Upperwestside. Have you ever lived anywhere south of US? I have, so sorry about the situation of your “work friend”, but your anecdotal story is just that. Would you like to hear the stories from my peers that grew in the Ivory Coast, I have plenty? They hack you up with machetes there, too.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I have reproduced. Several times. Which is how I KNOW I wouldn’t endanger my children 1 second past what was “needed”. Mexico is safe-ish, at least compared to the rest.

The kid didn’t have to go in the cage, and never should have. Obama and Trump both seemed ok with it, if you need the reminder. Trump amped it up and doing it as a fuck you is the just the coup de grace, among being petty and shitty. You won’t get an argument from me on that.

and if you're just gonna flush the C. American countries, then at least recognize that these people will be contributing citizens here in America. Many/most will be hard working and good citizens. A majority of them would return for their court hearings before, but now we lock them in cages. MAGA.

They work harder than almost all Americans in my own experiences and we'd be lucky as a country to take in more of them. It's humorous that Dotard demonizes them while illegally employing them at his golf clubs and hotels. He has done it because they will work harder for less and do so because it benefits their kids to be here. They sacrifice everything to better the lives of their children. I can think of few things as honorable and noble as that.

Some would, some won’t. Probably about like what we already have going with our US born citizens of every color, gender, and income level.

Actually, studies show that immigrants and their progeny end up doing better off than Dotard's dream voter -- white, "poorly educated," etc.

Tell you what.  Give me the next 100 Central Americans to cross the border.  I'll give you 100 "poorly educated" MAGA voters.  In a generation, which group (and their progeny) will be doing better?

He lived in Mexico so he knows that Central Americans are nothing when compared to the maga hat wearing assclowns we currently have to fill all these open cooking and dishwasher jobs as well as all those construction jobs.

I'll have to fact check the progeny part of your statement.  I remember reading how the first US born generation usually are pretty much opposite of the folks who bring them here.  Lazy, very high gang affiliation, criminal etc.  But to be honest, I really don't care one way or the other.  Nothing posted after my comment has shit to do with what I originally commented on, in pure CR fashion.

Your post makes fuck all for sense, but I'll give it a go.  Yes, I've spent a decent little chunk of my adult life in Mexico (I was a yearly FM3 holder from '08-'15 or so).  I don't know fuck all about MAGA cooks or dishwasher jobs.    You'll enjoy this, another anecdotal story - my very first 15 minutes in Mexico, I was pulled into a room with 3 men, 2 of them wielding some type of sa rifle (was a bit terrified, so didn't pay too close attention).  My "company escort" was late to meet me and pay my "tax" so I was held there and shouted at in Spanish until he arrived and paid the "tax".  Valid FM3, valid passport, etc.  Funny I pushed that button probably 20 times over those years and always got RED (search luggage).  Bad luck I guess.   So I find it just a tiny bit comical when people discuss how we are the only nation that treats immigrants this way blah blah.  Try sneaking into Mexico illegally (or legally in this case) and see what happens.

My point of the whole matter is, Mexico is plenty safe, IF,  safety is what the asylum seekers are hunting.  But it's not.  I'd wage financial factors well over safety concerns.  Venezuela/El Salvador/Nicaragua sucks, I get it.  You don't find it odd Mexico doesn't want them, and just shuffles them right up here?   Apparently there are studies indicating they are harder working and will be better off than Dotard voters.  Why wouldn't Mexico want all these hard working, well to do folks?

I live in Houston, so plenty experience with the hispanics of all types.  But please, New Yorker, tell us how the border is affecting the country.  You live what, 1900 miles away from any of this?  Really got a good feel on the situation, huh?

No. I'm saying there was study done on it that I read once (one, not many) but ALL immigrants showed that trend.  I think it actually was written to explain Asian gangs that were popping up iirc.  But Hitler, good one.

Let me get this straight. Poster A (Brisket) claims he’s read studies where 1st/2nd gen immigrant thrive (provides no source).   Poster B (me) claims he has read opposite  and would like to fact check the progeny specifically (no source). Poster B is racist and full of shit?

You're not just expressing skepticism about brisket's argument, you're making the opposite argument. Which is why I'm calling you out.

And also anecdotally, you're calling many of my friends lazy criminals with gang affiliations for no reason but the fact that their parents weren't born here. So once again, that's pretty fucking racist.

You are claiming that children of immigrants are "Lazy, very high gang affiliation, criminal etc", using that pew research article as the data to back your claim. Here's a handly little infographic from the article you're referencing that's at the top of the fucking page

FT_13.10.07_Prevalence-of-Crime.png

So your claims that second generation immigrants "lazy, high gang affiliations, criminal, etc" would apply also to native-born citizens. Are you arguing that all americans are "lazy, high gang affiliations, criminal, etc", or just the brown ones?

No, native born Americans have our own issues to be sure. Especially with laziness and entitlement.

You do understand the article I posted this AM was a quick google, not whatever article I read years ago, though, correct?  I’m pretty  sure the one I originally referenced was specific to gang/crime, and more specifically about Asians iirc.  I also never said I agreed with it, just that I remembered reading something about it, but I know you aren’t interested in that

Either way, apparently Murcia will dumb you down and make you a criminal once you assimilate.

Of course. Every one of us has anecdotal stories that shape how one feels about everything.  You have stories, I have stories. Are they worth basing policy on though? They certainly shape the way we interpret issues.

Back in the early 80's, after my freshman year of college, I told my dad I was going to drop out and "Just get a job". My dad said, "not to worry, I'll get you a job. You can start the day after your last final."

He got me a job working for a friend of his who was a roofing contractor. This contractor paid me the same as he paid the illegal immigrants he picked up up downtown at the corner of 1st and San Antonio (somewhere around there- more or less where the current city administration buildings are): 10 bucks an hour under the table, he paid for lunch and a twelve pack after work. He also expected me to work as hard as they worked.

I lasted a summer, before my ass was back in school. I was 18 and shingling roofs in summer in Austin almost killed me. My Mexican co-workers did it without complaining, sending most of their money back home. They were ready to work, everyday, waiting for him to pull up in his truck. Three would jump in the back seat, the rest in the bed, grateful for the opportunity.

Give me a hundred or a thousand or a million of them over all the MAGA-ots in world.
