True story . . . in high school I went on a school trip to see a stage production of "Macbeth" in St. Louis.  The witches were nude.  That play rocked.

I was living in Scotland and we took a field trip bus ride from the east coast to Glasgow for the play and they were topless and in their 20s. Busty lasses.

To tie it back into politics after that we got to be in the audience for a talk show where they interviewed Walter Mondale.

Espionage Act of 1917?  And it's kissing cousin Sedition Act of 1918?   Constitutionally questionable in some aspects, mostly now repealed.  What's left of it remains in Chapter 37 of Title 18.  https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/part-I/chapter-37

Mostly confined to actual espionage crimes.

Have to make sure the subpoenas that Trump and his cronies will ignore are legitimate.

It is a LOT harder to ignore a criminal investigation subpoena than one from Congress.  Two different beasts.

Before the special grand jury is convened, there is no subpeona power.

This is correct.  There is also less ability to fuck around than with civil subpoenas as in the NY AG case.

(CNN)Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones met virtually on Monday with the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection, he announced on his podcast.

A source familiar with the investigation also confirmed the meeting to CNN.
"I just had a very intense experience being interrogated by the January 6 committee," Jones said on his podcast on Monday. "They were polite, but they were dogged."
Jones said that, by his lawyer's count, he pleaded the Fifth Amendment "almost 100 times," and that he was told to do "on advice of counsel."
Jones said that while he wanted to answer the questions, he was afraid to do so because he believes that the committee, specifically Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California, would twist his words, and Jones said he was afraid of not answering all questions correctly and potentially perjuring himself.
"The questions were overall pretty reasonable," Jones said. "And I wanted to answer the questions, but at the same time, it's a good thing I didn't because I'm the type that tries to answer things correctly even though I don't know all the answers, and they can kind of claim that that's perjury because about half the questions I didn't know the answer to."

Jones said he was shown "a bunch of emails" that he had not seen before. He also said that the committee has gotten access to his phone because he was shown text messages from his phone, including messages with January 6 rally organizers Cindy Chafian and Caroline Wren, who also have been subpoenaed by the committee.

"They have everything that's already on my phones and things because I saw my text messages to Caroline Wren and Cindy Chafian and some of the event organizers," Jones said.

Jones was first subpoenaed by the panel in November.

In its letter to Jones, the committee cites press reports and his own statements to claim that Jones worked with Chafian and Wren in "facilitating a donor, now known to be Julie Fancelli, to provide what (he) characterized as 'eighty percent' of the funding" for the rally held on the Ellipse on January 6.

The committee stated that Jones was denied a speaking spot at the January 6 rally but that his previous comments indicate he was designated to "lead a march to the Capitol, where President Trump would meet the group."

The committee acknowledged specifically that once at the Capitol, Jones told people "not to be violent" and to gather and wait for Trump to speak. Even though Trump never came to the Capitol, the committee said the location where Jones told people to wait "coincided" with the same place that "Stop the Steal" rally organizer Ali Alexander obtained a permit for that day.

Again, I have yet to see anything that has stopped them from doing whatever they want.  I would like to be proven wrong.

But, you have seen almost no criminal subpoenas.  And, grand jury subpoenas, like all things grand jury, are secret, so you wouldn't know about them anyway.

Trump got away with everything he wanted to because he was the president and the most powerful person in the world. It’s pretty damn difficult to take down the most powerful person in the world for just about anything no matter how obvious especially when you have the full throated support of a criminal organization calling itself the Republican Party.

Trump is no longer the president.

Alex may be totally insane but he’s not a total idiot. He was smart to say to the crowd on his bullhorn to not be violent and to wait for trump to speak knowing full well that the crowd was about to be violent no matter what Alex said on his bullhorn and trump wasn’t showing up. I’ll give him credit for that much aforethought.

Trump is no longer the president.

And before he was President, he benefited from the general reluctance to go after "white collar criminals" in Manhattan and environs.  Yes, I'm looking at you, Preet Bharara.

Fascinating, too, that he used the terms "polite" and "dogged."  You'd kind of expect him to be spewing "corrupt" and "incompetent" ala TFG.

I am highly skeptical of congressional committees and their ability to get anything done, in the general case.  But, from outward appearances, the January 6 Committee is doing a pretty good job.

Jones is a fucking idiot. He received a default judgement for failure to reply to discovery requests. That's a special brand of stupid.

Yeah in the first part I think it pretty clearly shows that Alex knew what he was saying was bullshit nobody would listen to. Just covering his ass. Like I said, he’s insane but actually fairly smart.

As for the second part, most congressional investigation committees are just pure partisan bullshit like Benghazi or Ken star or done kind of half assed like Iran contra or done with a specific mission in mind like the Warren report. This one is actually critical and they don’t know the answer starting out.

Trump is no longer the president.

He’s still rich and white with 99.9% of the Republican Party protecting him.

That definitely helps a lot. But being the president makes you bulletproof. Trump attacked the capitol because he knew what losing the presidency meant.

He’s no longer President, right? Why isn’t he in jail? Michael Cohen went to jail. Why wasn’t Trump locked up for felony campaign finance violations the moment he left office on 1/20/21? Or the next day? Or the next? Or even a year later which was this past Thursday?

Trump will never respond to a subpoena and nothing will happen to him because of his refusal. We have him on tape asking the GA Sec. of State to falsify election results in order to keep him in office. That alone should be grounds for imprisonment. Execution, imo, if we’re going to insist on execution as a legal punishment for the most serious crimes. It boggles my mind that the scumbag is still walking around free.

I think the subpoena power will be used to get testimony from other Georgia election officials. We’ll learn more about Trump’s attempted coup. Like Stephen Colbert put it last night regarding the new Trump documents related to the coup attempt, its “Exactly what you thought but worse than you imagined.”

I don’t expect it to result in Trump being carried off in chains. It should. He deserves much worse. He deserves the Gadaffi treatment. Or the Saddam Hussein treatment at best. I’d settle for a long prison sentence. I just don’t see it happening.

Here’s hoping I’m wrong.

It was probably better than the alternative of having his shit put on blast.

And from all accounts his production team does not catalog their shows so he couldn't find the materials without listening though them all over again.

Like it or not these kinds of prosecutions take time. The Biden administration cannot immediately lock up trump because it would look political and in fact would be political. That’s not how it works.

Michael Cohen is in jail because he’s a nobody. Same as me and you if we did what he did. Like it or not Trump was the fucking president so the case against him has to be strong to warrant an arrest. I believe it will be but what I believe don’t matter.

Michael Cohen is free. He served his time. We know Trump committed a crime before he was President. Sure, he was President when he sat in the Oval Office and wrote checks to Michael Cohen reimbursing him for the payoffs to buy the silence of his mistresses - porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal - during his campaign. It wouldn’t be political to charge a known criminal for his crimes. His political allies would say it was. But it wouldn’t be. Don’t fall into their trap.

This describes my Qanon relatives, particularly with COVID.  You can throw facts at them and they try to answer as if they were an immunologist when they are actually just high school grads or community college dropouts.

Not sure if serious.

But, taking the most obvious first, Cohen pled guilty to offenses that he had committed at least a year prior to his guilty plea.

Somewhat serious, somewhat just ranting and raving. I don’t know the technical terms but it was documented in Cohen’s case that he was working for a co-conspirator who went on to win the presidential election. That can only be one person. Trump won his lawsuit against Stormy Daniels for violating the NDA she signed to keep her quiet about the affair during the campaign. He paid her hush money, she didn’t hush, so he sued her and won. How is this not an open and shut case? I think he should be in jail. Okay, so it takes time. Why hasn’t he even been indicted? What the fuck is wrong with the world?

AAAAAARGH!!!

It drives me crazy.

all of the amendments to the 1917 Espionage Act have been repealed

the above citation, "to cause or attempt.....", is still in the law on the books

this is the reason the msm has cognitive dissonance right now....   it's the law that was cited to indict snowden, assange, winner, manning, hanssen, and 20+ other traitors since ww2

tie dotard to the draft order, tie the draft order to the fake elector forgers, and you've got gold, jerry..... gold

Well, assuming "Individual-1" is guilty of the same crime as Cohen, which is probably a reasonable assumption, and that that person is Trump, limitations ran in 2021.  Still enough time to have indicted him for it.
