sark is fixable, he needs a top tier OC

There is a general lack of discipline, focus, and attention to detail that has existed for Sark's entire tenure. It was blatantly apparent against UGA. I don't think an OC fixes that. It's a reflection of Sark's personality.

No clue how Kiffin would do here. That guy has all sorts of skeletons in his closet. Maybe he has actually grown up, seems like he has. But he was an epic dirtbag for years. It would all depend on our $$$ guys appetite for that potential stuff after Sark.

Living in Oxford for a few years  might do that to a person,  Because you are right, his early career was mess and I never got the love for him others had that eventually got him the job at Ole Miss.

Maybe if Sark didn't spend all his time on play calling, he might could address the other matters that need to be addressed.

It is clear that somebody needs to address the lack of focus and discipline, and other matters.

Maybe  But it's going to take more than at top tier OC

We lost several "better" assistants than we have now....and it shows....the new guys on the block have performed poorly and I'm guessing Sark will replace several after the season.  And if someone could convince Sark that bringing in an OC would help, then....by all means please do so....Smart was a great DC, and he has a DC....he gets it.....Sark needs to let go of being the OC....and by all means, don't miss on new high school and portal players....we will be more experienced in many positions next year.

Of the 136 teams playing football, we are #135 (worst) in penalties.....this has gotta change....period.

It was the same thing we were saying about Charlie as far as he was an OC away from righting the ship.  We went up to Tulsa at got Sterlin Gilbert and it didn't work.  It was a spectacular failure

Maybe Sarks definition of a great “culture” is different than mine, or the Oxford dictionary. Culture and discipline go hand in hand, and as the 2nd most penalized team in the country, there is no way we can have a great “culture”

I'd be shocked if Sark even entertains the idea of taking the playsheet out of his hands. I think he'd rather be an OC in the NFL than a CEO HC in college.

Problem is so big. We need a new GM, new OC, new OL coach, new RB coach, new secondary coach, new S&C etc etc etc. Some of which coach from a box like winners do. And Sark need to focus purely on HC.

Then there needs to be serious discipline and practice adjustments.

Does it sound like the entire system needs to be overhauled from the top down and ground up?

Yep.

Is Sark likely to fully comply with those needs?

Doubt it.

Is there a simpler solution?

Indeed there is.

IF he is going to be dead set on being the OC, then maybe we need to make sure  the assistant to the head coach type is former head coach with experience ala Patterson as opposed to Gilbert.

Someone who can tell him that he respects and will listen to about some of the bigger issue game management/coaching problems that comes up while he is picking plays.

Why would he commit?

He’s playing poker with two other people - and every time one raises, the other one pays Kiffin‘s call - and then they raise.

Or 3 people….

Bold are 50/50 or better that they would be interested.

Freeman- Would kill it but his only year living south of ohio was 2009 when he played with the Texans. tOSU would always be a threat if Day left for the NFL.

Kiffin- He has one move left in his career. LSU is dysfunctional and Florida is a crapshoot on whether they have it together or not. He could be pulled yes.

DeBoer- Bama fans would be ok with this if he does not win the SEC or a championship this year. Allegedly he looked at Penn State, if true then yes he could leave for Texas.

Cignetti- Not a culture fit here. He thrives being the odd duck and his new buyout and age would be a non starter.

Riley- USC is a dumpster fire all around. They hired Riley and Musselman assuming it would work out without the back end support. He is still elite and needs a better program. His parents are also Texas Grads.

sark needs to actually make changes as you mentionedin

In fairness to Mack, after the 2003 fiasco he brought in Greg Robinson who immediately turned around our defense. The next year he brought in Gene Chizik.

Undisciplined has been a characteristic of Sark's teams since he got here. So many dumb decisions at the most crucial times. This is indicative of coaching. Same as how flat we look coming off bye weeks in his tenure here. It looks even more glaring when we don't have the talent we did last 2 years to overcome. And how bad this offense looks once we get into the redzone, also indicative of coaching, especially Sark since he calls plays. Once the field shrinks inside the 20, so much of your success is play design. You are no longer able to use speed to run down the field, broken plays happen less. Both of your playoffs came to an end because of inadequate redzone ability, mainly just dumb calls. Those 4 calls against Washington were bad and then the 2nd down call against Ohio St pretty much ruined that game.

Remember when a false start against ksu caused us kick a field goal otherwise ksu would win and then there be no b12 cg appearance

If the big boys in Bellmont want to throw down the gauntlet, then game on.

This was the beginning of the end for Jimbo in Aggieland.  Probably better to simply help him get to NFL then extend the friction.

Yep,  beating Aggie might be needed to brighten that star,  although Kliff got fired by Tech and then hired as an NFL coach so maybe they don't care.

Sark has lost 20 games in 5 years here. Lincoln Riley has lost 26 in 9 years as a HC. He also has 5 QBs starting in the NFL this year.

Well,  it would make the sooners go apeshit so it's got that going for it.

If Beard was sane we would be sitting on Techs best basketball coach, aggys best baseball coach, and Riley who is/was elite and made the playoffs at OU. My only wish is that he made the jump straight here.

What a weird situation to lose your cool, chewing out the TV guy just trying to set the stage. Over the top.

Unless Sark didn't appreciate his man-boobs being fondled.

Texas should hire coach bro for arch, win him a heisman so his career isn’t wasted at Texas.

Careful, this post arguably violates this site's rule that you cannot be fair to, or otherwise say anything remotely neutral or positive about, Mack.  Objectivity about Mack is not allowed.

Texas is atop the underachievers list of teams this season. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the No. 1 pre-season ranking, this team is much more talented than the performances on the field this season.

If what you're doing at your job isn't working, consistently and you refuse to change, you should be prepared to lose your job.

If you make millions of dollars at one of the highest paid football jobs the expectations are high. If you can't meet them, you should be prepared to lose your job.

I don't understand why fans give slack to a millionaire head coach that they wouldn't get at their company nor would they give to their employees.

Not sure I get the hard on some of you have for Kiffin. I suspect by year 3 yall would be at the gate with the pitchforks again. But I get that it’s much easier to be a fan of a coach when you aren’t invested in their product from week to week. But Kiffin has never won anything and I doubt he ever will.

It’s simply because he validates the trashy behavior that they themselves exhibit on a daily basis. Take his last name away and he’s selling used cars right now.

I love Bobby, but he's been out of sorts recently.

OTF’s views are going to fall off a cliff now that the season is basically over. I’m sure that he wasn’t expecting a content wasteland from mid-November through the playoffs. The fanbase will also be relatively apathetic during the offseason and going into next season after Sark makes minimal changes.

If that were true we'd all be massive fans of Jeff Banks and rather than Kiffin we'd all be hoping for Bobby Petrino.

But we aren't at all.

So your point is pretty fucking stupid and makes you sound a lot like a Christian fundamentalist.

He got left on a tarmac by USC because of how bad he was at his job and got to go be Saban’s OC as “punishment.” The guy is a product of nepotism. People love to point out his 10+ win seasons at Ole Miss, but they’ve never once played for or won an SEC title in any of those seasons.

I guess I'll attempt to offer a little nuance to the conversation.

10 months ago, I had zero doubts that Sark was THE guy.  Our teams looked tough and prepared.  Our roster decisions made sense.  All of the off-the-field money stuff seemed in order.  There's a reason so much of the blame for not winning it all fell on Quinn, and that's because pretty much the rest of the program looked exactly like you would want a championship team to look.

Were there areas that weren't perfect?  Sure, but there's rarely a "perfect" college football team.  Hell, Ohio State fans were ready to push Day out the door last December.

But something changed in the offseason.  The team this year does NOT look the same, nor does the coach.  Either our QB looks like he has never thrown a football before or our WRs act like double amputees or our OL acts like a bunch of matadors or our secondary looks like swiss cheese.  Just not a single cohesive performance all season.

To be very clear, this is NOT the same look that Sark's other teams have had.  Acting like he's the obvious problem that we should have all seen coming is dishonest at best.  Something is different this season.

If there's a way to get the program back to how it felt 10 months ago, then I'm on board.  But if whatever happened is permanent and if this is the new reality, then he's got to go or we are just delaying the inevitable.

To what changed is he assumed we would be in the playoffs and got lax with practice and talked about being able to spend more time teaching than practicing this off season. Several player interviews gave the impression that they took for granted they would automatically be in the playoffs and be drafted.  Basically a team pretending to be the returning champs when they hadn't actually won anything.
