You've convinced me.

They beat Georgia handily right before the national championship game they made. So there’s that.

Correct. 👍🏻 I’d rather focus on X’s and O’s than this shit. It was shared with the collective because it has had an effect on both the offseason, our recruits, our portal selections, our win loss record and so on.

there wouldn’t be gossip without Sark. No one is just making all this shit up. It was percolating since last summer. It’s coming out now bc the results on the field sucks and is mostly unwatchable and people do indeed feel that the off the field shit is causing the on the field shit. Period.

Well, if you take your positions on Texas from Kirk Herbstreit this might be the wrong forum for you.

If you don't like a thread, you have the god given right not to click on it.

I love rage bait posts on Surly about how much someone hates Surly. Even better when it's a rage bait post about the topic in the thread of the topic about the topic and Surly.

You might take some notes from @David Dennison on rage bating with contrary mofo, rage bate posting. He's way better at it than you and much more entertaining. He's an artist. I'm a fan of his work. Speaking of, where is that little devil.

If discipline is your top metric those are probably your top 3.

If discipline, defense and offense is your goal the data point to Lanning, Day and Cignetti. Freeman would appear to be a distant 4th with Lane following not to far behind.

That is without consideration of SOS or SOR. However, those have near zero impact on discipline or penalties in broad terms. The metrics for Texas/Sark in penalties is... not good in 2025, 2024, 2023 with the highest ranking twice being 73 out of 133 and considerably lower at 119 this year.

Also this in no way spells out who Texas COULD get as an HC. In that instance Lane appears the most open to a change.

In your entire post you repeated the only data point you referenced in your prior post. Saying things multiple times doesn't make them double value in data..

Above is the data. Dispute why Freeman is better than Lanning or Cignetti and why it, to quote you, "Isn't even close".

Shooting the messenger won’t solve anything. The idea some have is how dare we gossip about the program and in particular sark. How dare we!

is it too much to ask to have a HC laser focused on his job? Is it too much to ask? People just want that. Most of us really don’t give a fuck what people do in their private lives. Just do your fucking job. The gossip is happening bc sark is fucking messy. I blame him.

we aren’t entitled for wanting him to do his job, zip it up and be competent on and off the field. We aren’t. The entitlement shit started bc we fired Mack. From Herbie and others. And because we swung and missed on our way to hiring sark. We aren’t the fucking problem. The people we have been hiring are the fucking problem and the fans have no say in that.

sark did not suck at his job this year bc of gossip. Gossip isn’t what might get him fired or micromanaged with a very short leash if he stays. We just want our HC to do what the successful head coaches are doing. And the gossip wouldn’t exist right now if sark was. It wasn’t made up bc this season was a disappointment. It’s coming out bc people don’t want to carry his water anymore. That’s my opinion.

If changes are made in a major way it’s because the vast majority of this shit is true. Us gossiping about it won’t influence it. Period. I wager they are pissed bc us peasants know stuff. And it’s not in house. And it’s not in house bc sark is messy so blame his ass.

I don’t think worthy will ever become a complete wr, guys with his speed in Andy reid offenses typically have great stats randomly even if it’s just a Cinderella season. I saw a few people bring up Saban as a joke. Just in case you aren't joking, I would like to remind everyone that Saban's successes mostly came from the pre-NIL days, and that he probably recognized his abilities were diminishing with age, to a point where he was not realistically able to meet the high standard he has set for himself.

He would certainly be past his prime, by his own admission, and while that still could mean he would have winning records at almost any program in the country, it doesn't necessarily mean he would do better than 9-3 in the SEC as HC of Texas. How dumb would we look if we spent all that money getting him and then had to spend a lot of money buying him out? Might not end up as much of a trainwreck as Bellichick, but it still wouldn't be our standard nor anywhere near worth the money spent on Saban.

For my money, the best option is Marcus Freeman. He has a track record of recent success at a blueblood program, he's young and energetic, has media savvy, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of off-field distractions.

I would stay far the fuck away from G5 fools gold, especially Traylor.

I would say the majority of fans here dislike Arch. In an interesting note, his #40 ranking in QB total yardage is the single highest metric of any offensive statistic for Texas offense. This despite a horrible offensive game plan by Sark, horrible rushing, near most rushed QB in college football, WRs and TEs dropping passes and no running game.

So, he is the singular bright spot on an otherwise putrid offense.

I don't think people truly dislike Arch. I think they just don't understand football. At every level the highest amount of communication is between the OC and the starting quarterback. Most OC's sit down with their quarterback going into a game and the quarterback tells you what plays they like based on down and distance. Good OCs work that into their package. It is clear that Sark only does that when his back is against the wall. It was clear to anyone paying attention that Arch was drowning in the playbook in the early part of the season. We lost a couple of games and all the sudden the personnel groupings and route concepts changed. Now magically Arch looks competent. It's not magic, we clearly found a package Arch really likes and are running route concepts he is comfortable throwing.

In 2022 we built the whole passing game around X and it was a shitshow. X, despite his speed, gets less and less effective the further downfield he is. He is slight, so easily rerouted. We brought in AD and started working X in the short passing game and the offense took off. Watching us try and force Wingo to be a downfield receiver is reminiscent of 2022.

Sark needs to quit trying to force players to be who they aren't. It doesn't help their development and it doesn't help the team. If a player isout there dropping the ball and not making an effort to catch the ball in traffic they need to sit. Sitting is motivation to work harder to get back on the field. This "wait your turn" attitude he has doesn't develop players. Best players need to play. Period. Plus we need to put people in the best position to succeed by finding out what they do best.

We disagree slightly on the capabilities of X. I feel Sark was pushing Quinn more into passes he wasn't comfortable with rather than X being the primary issue. X's NFL performance in some ways confirms it. However, that's the details.

Outside of that one aspect we are in full agreement. The issues of both QBs lays squarely at the the feet of Sark and I would argue that their performances occurred despite Sark outside of rare instances when Sark is forced to alter the offense to align with the strengths and talents of his QB and other offensive players.

The strength of your argument that Freeman is better than Lanning and Cignetti because he out performs Sark (which the data doesn't support)?  Freeman can beat Georgia, neither of them can beat OSU. So Freeman is better against Georgia. That's it.

What does Aggy have to do with it? They are a really good team this year and they lost on a last second play. You brought them up as I guess an argument for common opponents? All Lanning has done is not win in the post season. I think Cignetti is a great coach but Texas isn’t hiring a 65 yr old

Quinn called an audible for the 4th down play.  Golden confirmed it.  Quinn also audibled to a run against Clemson that led to a big Blue TD run.

If I'm not mistaken, he changed protection to cover an all-out blitz. That, along with switching to a single pre-designated run from a pass based on what a safety is doing etc..., are what most would consider intermediate types of audibling, and a lot of times is situational. I'd probably throw audibling to a hot route in there as well. So he at least had the freedom to do that, and a lot of QBs do.

But when I want to know if a QB is really allowed to audible, what I'm really asking is if on any given play that QB has the freedom to change things, from play side to gaps, individual routes etc...

He is 40 years old and here are all the places he has played or coached with yellow being his birthplace and high school. His stint in Houston lasted about 3 months on the practice squad. He is not leaving the North east.

Also IMO he is not proven yet.

Year 1- Loss to 3 win Stanford and Marshall and Ryan Day

Year 2- 3 losses including a loss to Ryan Day and some good wins.

Year 3- Lost to Northern Illinois at home before rallying to make the playoffs. Beat an over ranked Indiana, QB less Georgia in a weird scenario, and beat James Franklin before losing to Ryan Day.

Year 4- Lost to Miami and a&m before winning out against an easy schedule. Playoffs TBD.

Record vs Upper end Coaches

Ryan Day 0-3

Smart- 1-0

Riley- 3-1

Swinney 1-1

Brohm- 1-1

Elko 2-1

I generally like you as a poster but laying out a bunch of rumors in a public forum is not your finest posting hour.  Nothing good can come of this for Texas. Cesspool2 Sarkrumorbooggaloo

Just grab the firewood and burn me at the stake already Salem Witch trial style.

Lane can beat OU, Georgia and aggy.  What's not to like about that?

Quinn called an audible for the 4th down play.  Golden confirmed it.  Quinn also audibled to a run against Clemson that led to a big Blue TD run.

Sark has been to an SEC title game, the playoffs two separate times, and has winning records against both OU and aggy. What’s not to love about that?
