I mean he doubles down on this. He said it post game presser and he’s saying it today.

And taking some credit for offensive failures. He ain’t responsible for drops or bad throws in that first series. We know this. But still….

I love when you guys watch the press conference thinking you're going to hear something that makes you feel better but really hoping to hear something that just makes you more angry.

the question is who does CDC nab? it's a crowded field, despite the media saying Texas money whips folks, the history of it all suggests otherwise, we're pretty conservative on pay at least initially. and frankly CDC has owned the minor sports, but FB is totally different, so I'm not convinced we hire well on the next go round.

I think the powers that be have been putting out feelers a LONG time. As in, last Spring. I think the fanning of fire has been restrained while there was a possibility of making the CCG or CFP. Now, with the 3rd loss in a row to Kirby and 0-5 against top programs, all while being eliminated from CFP and CCG possible appearances the gloves are off.

True that. But hearing now twice since the loss in two pressers that Sark thinks we honestly ran the ball well goes beyond Coach speak. That’s deluded territory.

We did run the ball well.  The first seven or eight times we ran it I felt we were averaging something like 7-8 yards per carryish.   Georgia made adjustments though and in combination shut it down whatever was working slightly and Sark abandoned it when we got down big.  But for the first half of the game I felt we were running it well.

Seems like semantics to me. I thought we ran it well when we did, however we didn’t run it enough.

he hasn't seem to change. just finally got a qb that was an old man and could get it done. but wait not get it all done. i remember hearing when OU was going to playoffs multiple time that it was better not to make and when then make and lose. seems different now.

Undisciplined has been a characteristic of Sark's teams since he got here. So many dumb decisions at the most crucial times. This is indicative of coaching. Same as how flat we look coming off bye weeks in his tenure here. It looks even more glaring when we don't have the talent we did last 2 years to overcome. And how bad this offense looks once we get into the redzone, also indicative of coaching, especially Sark since he calls plays. Once the field shrinks inside the 20, so much of your success is play design. You are no longer able to use speed to run down the field, broken plays happen less. Both of your playoffs came to an end because of inadequate redzone ability, mainly just dumb calls. Those 4 calls against Washington were bad and then the 2nd down call against Ohio St pretty much ruined that game.

From his presser right now that CJ V and others are covering. Does this sound like confidence in your job? or that you might still have one at end of the season?

This aspect hasn't really been talked about much anywhere but shitty coaching aside the players, particularly on defense, but really all of them seem to be edging closer towards disinterested or lack of faith. Georgia it really felt like the players not only poorly executed a bad game plan, but had no faith in it from the start.

Huh. I feel like we’ve seen something like this before with our defensive staff.

In 2021 when he was hired Texas had the 11th Best talent per 247. That is currently up to #4 with a Manning at QB. This job will be the best on the market ( LSU at 6, PSU at 10, and Florida at 12). Last time Texas and LSU hired at the same time Tom Herman left them at the alter at the 11th hour to come here.

This is a much different job than before and CDC/Admin will have the opportunity to poach anybody not named Day/Smart/Lanning.

Such as? I love when this board throws this out given our history of coaching hires has never had this be the case other than we almost got the guy we wanted to poach.

Bobby's "nuance" rant this morning kinda pissed me off. Nobody claims to have more information about the situation or experience coaching than Sark, but to suggest that there's a deeper non-public explanation for the substandard product on the field is some real pay no attention to the man behind the curtain shit. If heads don't roll, then we are a program where accountability is nothing more than a buzzword.

This is how I used to feel but no way a team in a 12/16 team playoff is overcoming shitty coaching for 3 or 4 games.

Go get Kiffin after the aggy game. Most thought he’d be committed by now and he’s not for some reason.

The rumor mill is in overdrive this morning. Whether there is fire 🔥 behind all this smoke remains to be seen. But people are saying there is in the sports media. I guess we will see.

Nonetheless the below graphic is wild and true at least the last two seasons.

Why would he commit?

He’s playing poker with two other people - and every time one raises, the other one pays Kiffin‘s call - and then they raise.

Sark was hired 6 months before NIL was passed and nobody knew what it would be at the time. Since then we have been in the top 5 spending teams in the country.

In 10 years when hes been fired at the NFL and struggling at UCLA we will realize we won in spite of him and not because of him.

CDC has hired two coaches in baseball and basketball that played for national championships and were/are considered to be in the top 5 at their jobs.

CDC doesn't hire the football coach, allegedly.

Yeah, hiring a baseball or basketball coach is a lot easier than pulling "whomever we want" out of some place in football with a lot less teams and other people also having money. So I'll ask you again, who exactly do you think we can pull? Freeman at Notre Dame? Kiffin? DeBoer? Cignitetti? There aren't just a ton of no-brainer hires. It's all going to be rolling the dice if Sark is out.

there is a chance this time is different but Texas football hires have not been nearly as successful as the other sports. comparing UT baseball, volleyball, women's basketball, swimming and diving, soccer, track and the others to football doesn't usually play out. men's basketball is very much a TBD here as well. I think CDC is great, but he hired sark so.....

This really only works if you can get a guy like Freeman. Those types will be in the playoffs so roster retention will be extremely difficult. Florida is only holding on because of the buzz surrounding them with Kiffin.

There has to be a SI cover like curse with our own football magazine in this state?  Right?

It took four years through for it to bite Jimbo though although he had an assist with good fortune during the COVID seasons.

I guess I'll attempt to offer a little nuance to the conversation.

10 months ago, I had zero doubts that Sark was THE guy.  Our teams looked tough and prepared.  Our roster decisions made sense.  All of the off-the-field money stuff seemed in order.  There's a reason so much of the blame for not winning it all fell on Quinn, and that's because pretty much the rest of the program looked exactly like you would want a championship team to look.

Were there areas that weren't perfect?  Sure, but there's rarely a "perfect" college football team.  Hell, Ohio State fans were ready to push Day out the door last December.

But something changed in the offseason.  The team this year does NOT look the same, nor does the coach.  Either our QB looks like he has never thrown a football before or our WRs act like double amputees or our OL acts like a bunch of matadors or our secondary looks like swiss cheese.  Just not a single cohesive performance all season.

To be very clear, this is NOT the same look that Sark's other teams have had.  Acting like he's the obvious problem that we should have all seen coming is dishonest at best.  Something is different this season.

If there's a way to get the program back to how it felt 10 months ago, then I'm on board.  But if whatever happened is permanent and if this is the new reality, then he's got to go or we are just delaying the inevitable.

Any assessment of Sark, like any coach, needs to go beyond 1 year. That's why I am confused. The previous two years, the team was physical, disciplined enough, and guys were improving leaps and bounds on an individual basis. This year it all seems to be gone. Why is that and can Sark revert things back to before? Not that those teams were perfect but you certainly wouldn't trade Sark for anyone else at that point.

At this point we are just hoping to see signs that he has the humility to be honest with himself for this mess. Only one team in all of college football has had more penalties than Texas which should be a huge red flag to him about our program culture and discipline. Never mind we effectively have no run game or pass defense. The wheels have fallen off and all we can hope is that he at least recognizes the extent of the problems without external pressure being applied.

Comments like this are not encouraging.

1-7 against top 5 teams. His offense averaged 17.6 points in those games. And after all that, he just got completely outclassed again in his latest attempt to turn it around. He's not a bad coach, but he's clearly not an elite coach. He's got elite support around him.

Let's see what happens in year six.
