I mean, Ferrari has 5 DNFs , Mercedes has 0 and FER is still ahead by almost 40 points.

Mercedes is miles behind RB and Ferrari. Sainz has like 3 DNFs in 8 races and is still ahead of Lewis in the WDC

Hmmm. It’s like reliability is part of the equation.

let's make a bet on who finishes ahead of who this year, seriously.

MB has a guy who has finished in the top 5 in every race this season and FER has 5 DNFs in like 8 races and still are ahead by 40 points.

Ferrari is so fucked. Apparently PU1 was degrading more than they wanted and now the PU2 spec has overheated twice on Leclerc in 3 races without warning. On top of that, Ferrari customers have been having PU issues almost every race, so there are clearly some huge, systemic problems.

It seems like the reinforced ICE that’s part of allowing PU2 to combust more powerfully may be causing the overheating elsewhere in the PU.

Leclerc will have to take a new PU in Canada this weekend and Ferrari apparently isn’t even sure what spec they think is best to give him. Outside of massive RB bad luck, or Ferrari making miraculous suspension development strides over summer break, the WDC and WCC fights are over. It was nice of Ferrari to keep it together for about 4 races into a 22 race season, though. Bravo guys.

You must just like to argue. Here’s my post that you keep trying to dispute. There isn’t even an opinion in it.

For as good as it seems Ferrari has been and as shitty as Mercedes has been, Mercedes is a hell of a lot closer to Ferrari in the constructors race than Ferrari is to Red Bull.

reddit blows.  Please don't bring that filth onto this pristine forum.

Thanks in advance.

naw, it's perfectly fine (or even better than fine) for links/stories/etc just don't go into the comments - which i stupidly did on some of the MB complaining about porpoising stuff.

@Burt Macklin I think you meant Merc making massive suspension improvements… but yeah, absent a major catastrophe for the leaders WDC and WCC are pretty much wrapped. RB have easily the best setup this year and overcame their early reliability problems. Add in two very good racers in Max and Checo and the rout is on. Will RB allow Checo to challenge Max? Seems after Monaco the answer is no.

The order to Checo to let him pass yesterday was because Max was much faster.  He built up a 3 second lead on him in the first lap.  Checo ended up with the fastest lap, but that was mainly due to Red Bull telling their drivers not to use DRS after Yuki's rear wing broke.

The forums are complete shit.  The average poster IQ is about the same as tigerdroppings or secrant.

It's a cesspool.

there are like 300k subreddits and only like 625 that have over a million subs. it has some great smaller communities, let's not paint literally 400+ million monthly active users with TOO broad of a brush here.

Why not?  This is the surl.  It's one of our things. :)

You all should take it as a compliment.  Compared to the wit and charm of surly posters, pretty much every other message board forum on the internet looks like ass.

True, but didn’t you have the smallest suspicion about why Max was that much faster? Especially after the post Monaco comments that Marko seemed to give a bit of an acknowledgment?

Checo still beat him in qualifying though.  They aren't going to hamstring him that much, though I don't doubt Max has a better car.  They still want to have a shot to win races if Max ends up with a DNF.  He's always going to get a car that can match the Ferraris.

A team's cars aren't necessarily equal on a given weekend anyway. The setups are based on the respective drivers' feedback, and can be very different. Sometimes a driver gets it a bit wrong copmpared to his teammate.

That said, I do think that Max is generally, genuinely that quick - so that almost anyone on the current grid is going to have to really do something special to match him even in the same car, esp during the race. He's an alien.

No. I meant Ferrari. They're still struggling a lot with porpoising and it's part of why they've struggled with tyre deg and probably isn't helping the PU issues. They have been working on copying RB's suspension and are supposed to have the update after summer break. If that really does fix their porpoising, then they could have an outside chance of catching RB. I don't think there's anything Merc can do to catch up this year with their speed deficit.

This story claims that Latifi will be replaced by Oscar Piastri after the Canadian GP and that Piastri will drive for Williams the rest of this season + 2023. It also says that Nyck de Vries told Tom Coronel in Monaco that Williams already has a deal in place with Piastri and that Alpine has already talked to Jack Doohan to do the compulsive Friday practice sessions for them instead of Piastri. That's a lot of detail. Another big plus is that it's Dieter Rencken saying it.  Just might happen imho.

From what I have read, Latifi will finish out the year because it is already “paid for”, but I suppose we will see soon.

Yeah I suspect what actually happens will be a combination of those two stories, and that there's a lot of truth in each of them.

So who all is going to Montreal?

Flying in Thursday. Have tickets for the family grandstand.

If you see a dude in a Longhorn hat with his wife and kid, just yell out Ted Cruz sucks. I'll know you're from the Internet.

100% guarantee you'll see someone else in Horns gear. I've seen it at practically every session I've been to there. It's also amazing how many people seem to notice the hat, with wives/gfs asking hubby what kind of logo that is, etc.

I'll be here in Texico loving every minute of this:

I'll be there, flying out at 5 am tomorrow morning.  It's me and my girlfriend's first race to travel to so super excited to get there!  Unfortunately, we got GA tickets which I have heard are less than ideal for Montreal but hoping to get there early enough to at least get a somewhat decent view.  Definitely regretting being a cheap ass and not springing for grandstand tickets but I'm sure it'll be alright, just going to try and scope out some good spots Thursday & Friday and try to get there really early on race day.

If that pool we're building gets finished before it cools off, it'll sure help me love this heat a bit more. This is crazy for June, even July.

We have been #blessed to have bought a home with a pool several years back.  I think we've probably spent more time in it over the past 4 weeks than we did for all of 2021.

Dinner at the casino restaurant on Wednesday was a nice start to the week for my wife and I.

You're gonna have a good time (ir)regardless. The main ga spots are scattered about the hairpin, at the T6-7 chicane, and iirc there's some in front of the T1-2 grandstands, which are actually very good.

Appreciate the rec!  My birthday is on Friday so we were planning to hit up the casino that day after the practice rounds but I'm wondering how busy it's going to be with F1 crowd there on Friday, Wednesday may be the better option.

I hope anyone flying Air Canada has better luck than we have so far. Been trying to get out of Denver since Sunday at noon. Still here. This is easily the worst fucking airline I've ever flown and it isn't close.

Supposed to go out this afternoon at 5:30 but I'm not going to get my hopes up.
