I honestly don't know if he's a rare talent in a slump or an over-rated football weenie.

The more film there is on him, the more D-coordinators have on him to throw him off.  That's why players "regress" often over the years.  They don't get worse, they are just forced to do what they either can't or don't want to do.  That's on his staff to fix and on him to internalize and execute.

its a rhetorical device for "your moving the goalposts"

No one is moving goal posts. What I am saying is he is just like every other quarterback except that he has a golden arm. So expect him to have flaws and shortcomings. Expect him to need a complimentary running game to play at his peak. That is the case for most QBs.  Expect him to make mistakes.

Arguing about Quinn's velocity or touch etc. on difficult throws is getting lost in the minor details.  Leave that to the NFL scouts.    We can win or certainly compete against anyone if Quinn isn't playing hesitant and can consistently make the correct reads and hit open short to intermediate routes in the middle of the field and the occasional deep ball (even if still a lower than ideal percentage).  That combined with what we already do in the short passing game should yield enough points to damn near beat anyone.   He absolutely has the ability to do that as we've seen it numerous times over his career.   I think QE's best play against Arkansas was that 3rd and 12 scramble where he zipped a catchable ball into tight coverage.  It was an incompletion but that is what we need to see more of.  He stopped thinking on that play and just played football.  Sark has to figure out how to tap back into that kind of play more consistently for us to have the end to the season we should have.

USC beat the ags because when plays broke down, their mobile QB made plays out of nothing.  It didn't seem intentional, but the ag defense is so aggressive that they over-pursue, putting themselves out of so many plays.  That led to frustration and penalties later in the game as well.  They're emotional.  If we are not running tons of misdirection and getting players in space on the edges it will be criminal malpractice.

Correct, and when your running game takes a step back expect those D-coordinators to use it to their advantage.

But Surly wants no frills inside zone with small backs and throws over the middle

9-1 and 7 TD passes in the last two games with no picks. Yeah let’s bench that guy lol.

I understand why Sark didn’t want to bench him and isn’t benching him. I also understand why fans are so frustrated watching him. It was probably unfair to expect him to be better this year than last despite replacing all his receivers and downgrading significantly at RB. But his PFF went from 85.6 last year to 68.0 now, essentially the same as it was when he was a RS freshman (70.9).

We can excuse some of that for sure. We can accept what he is and root for him. But if his PFF was even just the average of his prior seasons (76.8), he’d be top half of the SEC, we would have humiliated OU, Georgia would’ve been a coin-flip, and Vandy, Florida, and Arkansas would’ve all been laughers. This conversation would be very different. He has undeniably been a disappointment in 2024 and he’s running out of time to turn it around.

Really liked the traditional delay screen to Blue that essentially sealed the game for Texas. Based on my viewing that DL is really undisciplined (Turner adds dirty to that). Wouldnt mind seeing that screen and some draws (not sure I can remember running one this year).

Are we really arguing whether it's harder to throw deep vs 3 safeties over 2 safeties? Lol. Seems self explanatory.

3 safeties, 2 safeties? Does it matter? Quinn has no field vision and does not understand leverage. PI aside, look at this throw. WR has outside leverage and ball should be thrown to the sideline but Quinn throws it inside where the defender can make a play on the ball. This is the same shit he did against Washington.

Chris Simms did the same thing - had crazy tunnel vision and locked onto receivers. Repeatedly blown out by OU with 0 TDs and 12 INTs and benched in his only big 12 championship game

I definitely thought it was ironic he said that. Of course, I’d stare down Roy Williams too.

Sam thing earlier in the game against Arkansas, where Wingo had outside leverage and Quinn threw it to is inside shoulder to where the DB was able to break up the pass.

Let me know when we run 11 personnel or 5 wide all game and not 50% 12 personnel. Get mad at Sark for not spreading it out and taking advantage of one v ones.

This is something that aggravates me. Line up with 4 wide, spread way the fuck out to try and run the ball sometime. Or bring in a couple of extra linemen.

"If the time comes, if Quinn cannot pull out of this rollercoaster that he's on, at Kyle Field or any game from there on, I don't think if there's a chance of us losing that they're gonna go down with Quinn. I think we'll see Arch try to save the day. And that's just where we are at this point. We cannot afford to lose another game IMO."

- Bob Shipley on OTF show yesterday

I don't know how connected he is within the program anymore, but this is all I'm asking for from Sark and staff. They have to be better prepared and ready to play Arch if bad Quinn shows up. The fact that a sunshine pumper like Shipley is saying it gives me hope.

Isn't the Georgia game proof of this already?

And this is exactly the example of what I am talking about above. Derka is using the phrase " heisman candidate/no.1 overall pick”, $1M NIL QB". Those are Derka's expectations based on what he was told by some 9.95ers years ago. I knew after 3 games that Jordan Whittington wasn't really a 5 star. Same with Johnathan Gray. If a guy is not overly athletic he can always be gotten to by a good pass rush. The only thing special about Ewers is his arm. He isn't particularly tall to see over the defense. He is pretty slight and isn't going to break arm tackles. He isn't going to juke you and he isn't fast enough to run away from defenders. When you come to that realization you start to see him differently and your expectations adjust accordingly. You stop saying why can't Ewers do A, B, and C that he cannot physically do and you start saying why aren't we giving him A, B, and C so he can do what we know he can do.

Jordan Whittington looked every bit of 5 star. As did Gray. The fuck are you talking about?

Whittington was freak injury plagued and when he finally got and stayed healthy he was a fucking monster.

Gray was fucking incredible.

Quinn also looks fucking fantastic. You keep going on about this nonsense of comparing Quinn to his lofty external grade/expectations. A lot of people are comparing Quinn to Quinn. That's why so many people are so frustrated.

Stop fucking defending the guy, there's nothing to defend. He needs to play to his full potential.

It was a panic move in the UGA game and I think Sark was a bit blindsided by how bad Quinn was out there. We can't get caught in that situation again.

Whether it means Arch gets a few starter reps in practice moving forward or a more developed contingency plan from the offensive staff, we need to be prepared.

I agree, but If Quinn had that level of ball control I don't think we are having this conversation. It's really kind of wierd. His acuracy on short routes may be better than Arch, but when he goes deep he just throws it up for grabs.

The wording is a little odd but these PFF grades are for the season to-date, updated after week 12: (QE is now 13th out of 16)
https://www.louisianasports.net/week-12-pff-sec-qb-rankings/
Even if you want to use QBR, ESPN puts him at 7th out of 15 qualifying SEC QBs. His draft stock has plummeted the last 5 weeks.
Bad at reading defenses, bad pocket presence, bad lower body mechanics, low release point, injury prone … I guess it’s a wild take to suggest his arm strength is over rated too.
How did he end up with a perfect rating coming out of HS?

Evidently by being hurt most of the year and leaving early the next.

It would be nice if he would scramble and slide a couple times a game instead of taking sacks.  And maybe keep on a zone read 1-2 times per game.  He often has a lot of green in front of him.

If he would just do that early, it would open up a lot.

If Quinn gets replaced for the same thing as he did against uga, there’s no way you make the swap back at any point other than injury.

I figured it was true when after the Washington game he was blaming Quinn’s shitty throw on AD’s route running. Like what? Even if that was true, a guy running a shitty route doesn’t make the QB air the ball nearly out of bounds.

Now go look at his post count and where they are located.

Sure some people lean towards on area or another, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen him post anywhere outside of Quinn specific threads/area. Not in aggie thread. Not in CR, lulz, not anywhere. And I'll wager nearly 100% of them are, in various forms or another, defending Quinn.

Quite a few quotes of Shipley with  "We cannot afford to lose another game IMO."

Not entirely correct. We can afford to lose the CCG and would still be in the 5-12 bracket.

Losing to UK or aggy likely keeps us out of the CCG, and might shove us out of 5-12 as well.

At this point we have at least three games left. Whether the third one is the CCG, a first-round homer, or a Toilet Bowl remains to be seen. If we keep winning, we have the three and another three in the playoffs. Could be a lotta games left, and they're just gonna keep getting tougher.
