Just read a very, VERY positive report regarding the early returns and reviews of Coach LaAllan Clark. He's apparently really impressing a lot of top recruits.  He appears to be a home run hire by Sark.

Dates/quotes from KJ Edwards.

"The third week of June is when Texas is having all their big visitors and commits, and coach Sark told me that would be a good time to come and be around all of those guys, so I think we are going to move that visit back to the third week of June. We are still deciding on which date for the LSU and Alabama visit, and I'll be at Texas A&M on June 13."

"I don't think there's another that uses their backs in the passing game like Texas. Nobody uses their backs better than them in that way."

(Good point, and the statement suggests the staff is emphasizing this.  Wisner and Blue caught 44 and 42 passes respectively.  (FYI, those numbers were more than those of Wingo/Moore - not suggesting the staff would call this aspect out 🙂 - just putting it in context).)

The recruiting process can open doors to new experiences and opportunities, and that's exactly what's happening for KJ Edwards. The Carthage (Texas) running back is one of the best players in the country, holding close to 35 offers. This spring he hit the road and visited several programs and even took his first official visit.

At 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, Edwards is ranked as the No. 2 running back in the nation and No. 5 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.

Edwards and his family have been able to travel together and enjoy the process of seeing different sights, and he's got a busy summer of official visits left.

"It's been good this spring," Edwards said. "I've just seen different places, and on May 2 I took my first official visit to Colorado. That was a thrilling moment for me and my family, because that was the first time as a family we've gone outside of the state and saw different things. Being from Texas, we don't usually get to see the mountains and stuff like that. For the rest of my official visits, I've got Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M and LSU left."

Edwards' visit to Colorado allowed him a closer look into the program Deion Sanders is running. The addition of NFL legend Marshall Faulk to the Colorado coaching staff is a big plus for the Buffs.

"Really just the overall genuine vibe the staff had," he said. "They were telling me they really didn't have a true running back and they could use me right now. With coach Faulk coming in, I kind of resemble him and we are kind of the same running back because I can catch the ball out of the field and make plays in space and out of space."

Edwards is currently reworking the rest of his official visit schedule. Texas A&M is the only date he has set, but he has an idea of when some of his other trips might come together.

"I canceled my Baylor visit, so either the Alabama or Texas visit will take that date," Edwards said.

Each school in his top group has something to offer. Edwards and his family have been thorough about investigating the ins and outs of each program and what they can offer him on the field.

"I like the resume and tradition Alabama has with Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram and Jahmyr Gibbs," Edwards said. "As a running back, that's RBU and they get that position to the league. That's the ultimate goal. They use their backs well just like Texas. I don't think there's another that uses their backs in the passing game like Texas. Nobody uses their backs better than them in that way. Texas A&M is a true program. Coach Elko is going to coach his guys up so hopefully they can win a natty. With LSU, the coaching can get me to the league. Coach (Frank) Wilson has done it with guys like Leonard Fournette, and he's done a good job with Caden Durham and those guys there."

I doubt arch is going to be as much of a check down Charlie as Quinn was though.

Sark's playbook has plays which feature the back as the first read. No check down needed.

1)  Najee Harris had 43 catches at Bama;  not far behind Metchie, w/ 55. (Smith had 117 - lulz - and Waddle was hurt, but still, 43 is a good number.)

2)  I think Sark/Arch will do what is best for the offense, and if Edwards has the ability, they will find a way to use it.  And catch totals under the mid 40s could still be material for a back.

3)  Edwards and Arch will overlap for 1 year, max.

4)  I believe the bigger point is Sark has proven that he can use backs as pass catchers, and do so very well, when the circumstances and opportunities are right.  And that's got to be a positive, particularly for Edwards.

Here are a couple of excerpts from his scouting report:

"Progressively getting more targets in the passing game, including 30 catches as a junior. Displays impressive ball skills and body control as a pass catcher."

"Experience in myriad formations and personnel scenarios for a perennial Texas 4A contender."

For sure on #4, Blue and to a lesser extent Keilan Robinson got drafted because of their pass catching ability.

I know what you're saying. It's going to be harder to involve the running backs in the passing game when every deep ball Arch throws goes for a touchdown.

And don't talk to me about incompletions or interceptions. There will be none of that.

Maybe they can catch a pass every now and then on a wheel route deep down field on a mismatch with a linebacker.

I wonder what the rationale behind this one is, since we already have lots of goot options at OT.

Always work towards the best outcome, but be prepared for the worst. We used to have coaches that never kept anybody warm on the back burner and had to scramble when Plan A failed to materialize. That’s how we ended up with Max Merrill.

Aledo Top247 WR Kaydon Finley details his recruitment as it heads down the home stretch

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

Aledo Top247 wide receiver Kaydon Finley has been in the sights of Steve Sarkisian and Co. for quite some time.

One of the first, if not the first 2026 prospect to pick up an offer from the Longhorns, Texas has had an offer on the table for the Longhorn legacy going back to June 17, 2022, when Finley picked up his first ever offer heading into his freshman year of high school.

That being said, the recruitment process has gone on and on for several years but it's now beginning to come down the home stretch with Finley's commitment date set for July 4th.

"It's been going good. I've been keeping in contact with a couple schools right now. I think I have a tight connection with all of them so just doing this (spring ball) and going on all my visits just to see where I end up. Just gotta pray about it and see what's the best opportunity for me and that's the place I'll be at."

Finley is one of the rare four year varsity starters to come through the historic Aledo football program, but he's not letting the hype or near ending recruitment distract from the work that lies ahead of his senior campaign.

"Really off the ball stuff like using my hands on the line of scrimmage and in my releases. Stacking corners, getting over and under safeties, I think that's the main part of my game that I have to improve this spring for my senior year."

Before making a decision on the Fourth of July, Finley will take official visits to Louisville (May 30-June 1), Texas A&M (June 6-8), Notre Dame (June 13-15), and Texas (June 20-22). According to Finley, the schools that are currently in consideration include Arizona State, Colorado, Louisville, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, and UCLA.

All seven programs tripped out to Aledo during the spring evaluation period to watch practice and/or meet with Finley. For the Longhorns, it was Chris Jackson who made the trip up to Titletown to see Finley after a Bearcats practice.

"So he actually came after practice. We went and sat down in coach Jones' office and then after school we had the in-home visit with the fam and he came out so it was good. It was good getting to talking with him, getting to talk to coach Sark over the phone. Me and coach Jackson have a tight relationship, we call, text, and talk all the time so we have a pretty tight relationship."

The Longhorn legacy has scheduled calls with Steve Sarkisian about twice a month.

"We'll get on a call every other week. We just talk about life, traveling all over, spring ball, the schedule his players have, and my OV coming up."

Having been to the Forty Acres over a dozen times throughout his life, Finley is more interested in getting a feel for who's trending to Texas rather than getting a feel for the campus or school he already knows so well.

"Really just the connection with the commits there," Finley said on what he's looking forward to on his Texas official visit. "I think that's another big thing, who I fit in with on these visits. The recruits, how they are, how they act, how their personalities are. I think that's the main thing I'm looking for on these OVs."

Finley also shared that AJ Milwee is involved in his recruitment, with Milwee, Sarkisian, and Jackson making up the main group of Texas staffers he hears from the most.

Though he isn't on the Texas staff, Finley also hears from Texas five-star QB commit Dia Bell quite often. That bodes well for the Longhorns with Finley, as the Top247 receiver prospect is holding quarterback play high in regards to his college decision factors.

"Dia definitely, he definitely influences my decision wherever I go. Dia and I, we have a good connection. I think he's one of the reasons why Texas is in my top schools, and just them having an established quarterback room. I think it's very important, especially at the receiver position. Just to know and have confidence in the dude you're getting the ball from."

After the 2025 NFL Draft, Texas and Ohio State became the only two programs to have had a wide receiver drafted in the first round in back to back NFL Drafts. With development in the hopes of getting to the NFL being another big factor in Finley's decision, the Aledo product is really noticing what the Longhorns are doing when it comes to wideout production in Steve Sarkisian's offense.

"Going to the NFL is ultimately one of my biggest goals and with picking a school I think it's very important for receiver production. He (Matt Golden) also went to the Packers so that's a good thing, that's my favorite team. Receiver production in the league is definitely a big influence on where I'll go. Places that put receivers in the draft is what I'm really looking at right now."

Being the son of one of Texas' top tight ends in program history certainly adds burnt orange pressure to Finley on top of the pressure he's already under with being one of the top prospects in the Lone Star State, but Finley and his father work together to keep things open and focused on doing what's best for Kaydon.

"There's definitely pressure that comes with it. But I just try to have fun with it. It's all my process really. I don't let outsiders influence my process. My dad, we have a tight relationship on this and we see eye to eye. He lets me visit all these other schools and he's open to wherever I choose."

Though the legacy factor certainly adds pressure when it comes to potentially committing to Texas, Finley doesn't see where his dad went to school playing much of a role in his own college decision.

"I don't really see it playing a factor. Yeah my dad, he paved a great path for me and my little brothers and I think that it's a blessing to have someone to really talk about these things with, the whole recruiting journey cause he's been there. But if I want to follow in his footsteps or if I don't, I think it's just God's plan. And whatever he wants me to do, I think that's what I'm gonna do."

As far as his commitment timeline goes, Finley has a date scheduled for commitment fireworks on the Fourth of July, but mentioned he might pull the trigger ahead of the date if things feel right.

"That's the day I scheduled it. Who knows, I might commit before that. But I definitely want to get it over with before my senior season."

At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Finley is currently ranked as the No. 112 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 15 wide receiver in the nation, and the No. 16 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Until now I didn't have hard evidence, but now there's no convincing me otherwise: the NFL is just as corrupt as the NBA and the SEC, and they want to be in bed with the money handlers at TU.  Yeah, I'm sure it's PURE coincidence the NFL draft worked out for Green Bay to conveniently land Golden, just as Texas is recruiting Finley. Everyone knows Finley's top choice is Notre Dame, a midwest school with genuine Catholic, American values.  No shock the Sips are calling all their friends (including Goodell) to trick Finley into abandoning his first love and following the skank down the street.  She will chew you up and spit you out, my man.

This is personal for me.  I've been a loyal NFL combine and NFL draft watcher since my great uncle Terry put me up on his shoulders so I could watch John Roper run drills at the 1989 combine.  But what I saw this year sickened me, and I had no choice but to take a deep breath, gently turn off the TV, and find something more deserving of my hard earned time and money.  NFL is never getting another DIME from me.  The free marketing for the TU defensive end -- a 4th round pick! -- as he walked to the podium and bear hugged by Goodell (or should I say, Bad-ell).  What other 4th round pick IN THE HISTORY OF THE DRAFT got the red carpet treatment?

Years ago I remember watching a coaching clinic with his saying the RB was the first read and if it is open, the QB must throw that route. It's amazing that DCs have had this play and tape of this this play or variations of it for a years and still can't do shit about it.

Any top WR even thinking about A&M right now should have their head examined. That program has demonstrated multiple times over the last several years that they’ve ruined top wr prospects. They would be taking on way too much risk by going to A&M right now.

(Top-50 national recruit, two-way player, two-way Texas legacy, in-state recruit ... Lott riding on this recruitment.)

Chris Jackson is turning up the heat on Texas' pursuit of Top247 ATH and Longhorn legacy Jalen Lott

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

Frisco Panther Creek Top247 athlete Jalen Lott has been a commodity in the recruiting world going back to his freshman season in 2022 when he was forced to play sub varsity ball due to a UIL ruling.

Though he would've started for Lovejoy as a freshman had the UIL not ruled him ineligible, Lott got his first bit of varsity experience as a two way starter at wide receiver and cornerback as a sophomore at Lovejoy before making the move back to Frisco ISD where he's been at Panther Creek since his since before his junior season.

Now ranked as the No. 50 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 5 athlete in the nation, and the No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Lott has been blessed to go through an awesome recruiting process, but with a commitment on the horizon and less then a month and a half to go before a decision is made, Lott is looking forward to the process coming to an end.

"I'm kind of excited to get it over with but also I'm still obviously blessed to be in this position. Seeing everybody come out here, it means a lot to me for sure."

One of the best two-way prospects in the nation, Lott is hearing a variety of positional pitches from the nation's best. Georgia wants Lott at cornerback, Oregon wants Lott at receiver, and USC, LSU, Colorado, and Texas are all pitching the DFW area native as an athlete, with his long term positional home to be determined once he gets to campus.

Though Texas was once pitching Lott as a full-time cornerback with the opportunity to eventually earn a few wide receiver snaps here and there on the other side of the ball, Texas' pitch has now focused more at the receiver position with Chris Jackson getting heavily involved as of late.

"I feel like it's now leaning a little more towards athlete and receiver. Probably receiver a little bit more because coach Jackson has really been putting his foot on the pedal."

Lott has enjoyed getting to build a closer relationship with the Texas wide receivers coach over the last few months.

"It's definitely been good. Obviously with coach Joseph I didn't really get a chance to really get into it with him but now he's definitely taken a big step up for me and I'm really enjoying it."

Speaking of Terry Joseph, the former Texas corners coach was Lott's primary recruiter before leaving for the New Orleans Saints. According to several sources, Joseph was close to landing a commitment from Lott in the early part of the spring, but that was all thrown out the window once Joseph departed Austin for the NFL. When asked if Lott was really that close to committing when Joseph was still in town, he gave an insightful answer as it was the first time Lott got a clear example of the fact that college coaches can leave their current jobs at any time.

"I'd definitely say it was something I was considering. But obviously since he left, those types of things have definitely made me take kind of a step back to get a better view of everything. But I'm still really high on Texas for sure."

With Chris Jackson and Mark Orphey now running point on the recruitment with Joseph gone, Texas' receivers and cornerbacks coach are also receiving an assist from Steve Sarkisian, who facetimes Lott every other week and always makes sure to talk with him and his family when Lott is in town on visits.

"We definitely have. When I was up there for the state meet, after the meet I was able to sit down and talk with him so that was big for me."

Though Jackson, Orphey, and Sarkisian are more hands on with Lott's recruitment than Duane Akina is, Akina is also involved in the recruitment and recently sat down with Lott to go over old defensive back tape when Lott was in town for the state track and field meet that took place in Austin a few weeks ago.

"I've known coach Akina a long time since he was at Stanford and then obviously transitioning to Arizona and he was one of the first guys that offered me. Obviously I've built a relationship up a lot with him and then after the state meet I was able to sit down and talk with him and go through a bunch of old film that he had which was really cool to see because he's been doing that for a long time."

Though most of the schools pitching Lott as an athlete prefer he settle in one side of the ball after he arrives to campus in January, there is one school pitching Lott to play the same role he plays in high school as a full-time two way player at the next level.

"Colorado for sure. I feel like they're the only ones that can really say it. Maybe Texas, Sark can kinda say it since he had Adoree' Jackson and he kinda did it when he was at USC. So those are kinda the two main schools (pitching both ways)."

Sarkisian having that history with Adoree' Jackson is another reason the Longhorns stand out. Though it's likely Lott would end up in the receiver room if he was to go to Texas, the Longhorns haven't ruled out playing both ways in some capacity.

"It's definitely really good because the proof is in the pudding and he's actually done it. So that's definitely big time for me."

Another reason the Longhorns are standing out is the fact that Texas was the only program in college football that had both of Lott's positions (wide receiver and cornerback) selected in the first round of this year's NFL Draft.

"That definitely is really cool with Jahdae Barron and Matthew Golden, that definitely was good to see. That's been cool and I feel like with my speed I can kinda be like Matthew Golden and then obviously with Jahdae Barron, he's like one of a kind and his instincts are like no other so definitely seeing that and seeing what Sark can do with players like that, it's definitely making me feel good."

A Texas legacy, Lott has been to the Forty Acres dozens of times throughout his life. That said, Lott has already seen most of the campus and is hoping to use his Texas official visit to get a better feel for the players on the roster.

"No not really," Lott said if there's anything specific he's trying to see on his upcoming Texas OV. "I'm just excited to get around the players and my boys Daylan McCutcheon and Parker Livingstone, and I mean I kinda know the whole team so that's definitely what I'm most excited for. Just to be able to talk with the players and stuff like that and going a little bit more in-depth with looking at the school and stuff like that."

Lott's former Lovejoy teammates in McCutcheon and Livingstone aren't the only Texas players Lott knows well, and the countless connections to Texas' roster have made the Forty Acres a comfortable place for the Longhorn legacy.

"Daylan and Parker are the main ones because we were at Lovejoy together. Caleb Chester, I know a lot of the freshmen so being able to talk with them and already knowing them, I feel comfortable there and being around them."

With both of Lott's parents having been former Texas athletes with his father's storied collegiate career earning him a spot in the Texas Hall of Honor, Lott has felt pressure at times to follow in his parents footsteps, but as he's matured, Lott has settled in on making sure he makes the decision that's best for himself.

"I'd say earlier in my recruitment I was for sure. But now I feel like I kinda have my head on straight and I can see and look through that and just make the decision that's best for me."

Like all legacy recruits, Lott will eventually be faced with the decision of blazing his own trail or following the blueprint that's already been laid out ahead of him. Lott is still a ways away from having to make that decision, and he's already thought about what each decision would look like.

"I feel like going on your own trail and doing that, it's not a problem if you do that. And I feel like I kinda want to be able to make a name for myself. But if I end up going to Texas I end up going to Texas, so obviously being a legacy would be cool so that's definitely something I'm looking forward to."

As far as a commitment timeline goes, Lott has settled in on a date that's become increasingly popular over the years for recruits announcing their decisions following official visits in June.

"Me and my parents were talking about July 4th. It's not official yet but that's what we're thinking. It'll be after my OVs and before the season, so somewhere in that window."

Though official visits still loom extremely large in the month of June, Lott gave an interesting question when asked if there's already one specific program he feels like he's leaning to.

"For sure. I definitely have that in my head. It's just about getting out there and looking at the campus a bit more on these official visits."

At 6-foot, 170 pounds, Lott is currently ranked as the No. 50 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 5 athlete in the nation, and the No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Most of this was pretty spot on, except for, “but to take a deep breath, gently turn off the TV…”

Aggy typically has the emotional regulation skills (lack thereof) of a two-year-old, especially if Texas is involved.

Otherwise, that was an entertaining read.

There’s no way in hell, when push comes to shove, that a Texas legacy, especially one of a highly successful skill-position player, will let their kid go to A&M. J. Finley is going about this the right way with his son, but he’s not landing in College Station - especially right now due to a multitude of factors.

Ain’t no way.

(From the thread following the post above, on Lott.)

Some really good info from Scruggs, comparing Lott and Bishop.

And below, a couple of clips of Lott.

Man, I want both of these guys on the roster.

That’s funny. I was going type something similar. It does make me laugh when it works. Texas runs it so much, how are teams not prepared.

Everyone wants to play for a winner.  A couple schools, if successful, will give you “legacy” props for life.

Texas is at the point, thanks to NIL, that they can just recruit a kid, asking if they want to play on the nations biggest stage?  Their playmaking abilities will translate to the next level.  $$$ will also be guaranteed at the next level.  Just MO.

Hook’em!!!
