Why is Republican Heterosexuality so easily changed and influenced?

We are starting to see that with the LBGTQ folks.  Yeah, Elton John and others have obviously been out there for decades, but it’s hitting the mainstream  where companies are embracing it (witness the blow up over the beer cans), where it’s prominent in some video games, where you have people like Tim Cook who runs the largest tech company in the world, where you have gay characters in the movies and TV shows (and popular TV shows and movies that revolve around such characters).  It’s no longer an isolated thing like Elton John or Paul Lynne or whatever.

Now let me be clear I am heterosexual.  Always have been, assume I always will be.  I also think that it is silly to think that everyone is exactly like me. So I accept that God has made humans in all shapes and sizes and sexual preferences.  I also know factually that God has created for as long as man has walked the earth some children with both men and women's sex organs, or conversely the lack of full development of either.  Now nothing I have said thus far, can be factually attacked without complete and total disregard for honesty and facts.

But what I do not understand is why is the heterosexuality of Republicans and their children so fragile?

Now maybe my God made me so much more heterosexual in some way I do not understand compared to my Republican male heterosexual counterparts.  But intuitively this supposition is probably not accurate (despite a lot of numerical data available to support this supposition).  In my instance for example reading a book would not change my heterosexuality.  Seeing a heterosexual sex act would not change my sexuality.  Recognizing that somebody else is not heterosexual would not change my sexuality.  Seeing a woman in man's clothing, nor a man in woman's children would change my sexuality.  Having a man make a pass at me (has happened) would not change my sexuality.  In fact honestly I can't think at anything that would change my sexuality (**life incarceration could, I believe over time condition a different sexuality, but I believe life incarceration could potentially change anything about anyone.  Sexual abuse might also alter ultimate sexuality, or cause enough confusion to alter course is possible as well).

Now having coached a shit ton of soccer over more than a decade, I can also tell you that many kids wrestle with their sexuality.  I coached more girls later, and some of my most natural athletes later declared they were not heterosexual.  I also remember talking to my 1st grade daughter talking about a boy in her class and calling him a "boy girl." Later he would declare himself homosexual.  But I don't think in either of these examples a book, discussion, observation was the ultimate determiner of their sexuality. Any more than a book, observation or discussion determined my sexuality.

But the one question I do not have an answer to is, Why do Republicans believe that books, discussions and observations could change their own sexuality?  Have books, discussions and observations previously changed their base sexuality?  Was there some point in their life that they consciously decided they would be heterosexual, rather than homosexual?  Did they flirt with being trans before making this decision after seeing Cabaret?  Did not seeing Cabaret, The Bird Cage or a drag show for example preserve their heterosexuality?  Would seeing a drag show change them to homosexual from heterosexual?

I hate to be so vacuous here and ask so many questions, but none of the examples that Republicans fear will make them and their children not heterosexual is something I would every worry about.  If my kids were gay, I would probably assume it's genetic for example and love them anyhow.  I would also know that it's harder in life to be gay than straight IMHO. But Rather than assume that either the way I raised them, a book, show, discussion or observation had changed their sexuality.  Apparently Republicans believe the opposite? That at least for many Republicans sexuality is something that is fluid, flexible and easily influenced.  And that is something that I simply do not understand. And my heterosexuality could never be changed by such influences. So help me figure this out....

Lost me riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight there.

I think you need to look up "factual."

But I guess I might be fascinated if indeed books could change my sexuality.  I would endlessly wonder why? Not in a good or bad way.  Just curious as to why a book could change my sexuality? The actual why?

I mean, books/media can serve as a gateway, in that they get you to actually pay attention to the feelings that were already there but were being ignored or subconsciously hidden.

A Robert Heinlein novel of all things was one of my first queer awakenings, where the feelings the novel made to clear to me were such that I couldn't ignore them or push them away immediately.

But ofc i was already hella queer. I just didn't know it.

I find this fascinating, and not unusual among my acquaintances.  I'm pretty sure that almost 60 years into my time on earth, I'm quite straight, but it's always interesting to learn of people's eyes being opened otherwise.

No self-respecting gay man would want anything to do with me, anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Perhaps I should have said that it is factually accurate that throughout all of history there has been homosexuality.  Even when they masses could not read or be exposed to drag shows... I

was using the "God Made" as a reference to the supposed beliefs of those that are afraid books will change their sexuality. I assume they self identify as "Christians."

Yeah, my wife watches all of Mindy Kaling's stuff. She's a talented writer and creator. That being said, I don't think I could relate to college-aged women when I was a college-aged man.

All due respect, you don't know any such thing.  You believe it.

And are we really questioning why people who aren't secure in their straightness are afraid of being exposed to gay things?  I mean, of course they are.  They grew up in a state, a church, and a political party that taught them that being gay was a mortal sin.  A lot of them have been forced to repress their homosexuality, and their lives must be a miserable parade of cognitive dissonance and fear.  This isn't all Republicans, obviously, but a significant percentage of them are afraid of "gay stuff" because they don't want to be caught liking it.

And the rest are just hateful pieces of shit.

Yeah as a gay I spend a lot of time protecting straight men's fragile egos. I've always assumed that there are a whole lot more gay/bi people than ever come out of the closet.  They are fragile because they've long harbored thoughts of wanting to give it a try, or they did give it a try as a teen and they liked it more than they want to admit.

I have (had) a lecture/group discussion about this in my class when we talking about self-concept and communication. Basically, the rise of gay apps allows for more “straight” guys to explore or live their real truth because of it can be 100% anonymous in many ways. Some of the “straights” on those apps go from getting their black blown out by a bbc back home to their wife and kids like it was nothing.

A lot of your frat bros on college campuses are the headless torsos on Grindr regardless of where in America the campus is located.

that's how you spot straight dudes?  We have like a million other tells besides anticipating failing a drug test.  You should be working for the DEA or as a jury consultant or something.  But you and your damn higher calling to help sick people.

It really is one of the great ironies of America.  our most "alpha male, man's man" folks are the most fragile when it comes to being inundated with gay stuff impacting their life.  I believe sexuality, like many things, is a spectrum and nobody is on one permanent, concrete end of it on either side.  More than a few people assumed my grad school roommate and I were gay because we were both neat freaks who dressed well and has an aura of culture about us.  I never experimented with physical gay sex but the culture and lifestyle have appealed to me, and I have partied my ass off with some very, very gay men.  I have nothing against it, it's just that I really, really, really love women.  I find a number of men very attractive, but it stops there.  But I'm just absolutely 100% obsessed with ass, like the literal buttocks.  And men have horrible asses.  And most women have some level of nice ass.  That's really it, there's probably a guy out there with a really properly curved and bulbous ass that is playful, yet slightly naughty.  And maybe I'd wanna rub it with hot oils.  I dunno, maybe I'll do the back half of my life gay.  But for now, a woman's ass is the most beautiful display of calculus on our home planet.

I feel like Cliff in the series finale of "Cheers" sometimes when he talks about everything in life coming down to footwear.  But for me, it's ass.

OkAY, back on topic.  GOP being scared of homogays coming for their manhood.  I confess I dabbled with social conservatism for a few years between high school and college.  Then by my early to mid 20's, I just realized I didn't give a shit.  I tried feigning outrage and caring, but nothing manifested.  No amount of drag shows, gay porn, and same-sex marriage is gonna change my obsession with the female backside.  If LGBTQ+ folks can find a slice of the joy I feel around my wife's ass, more power to 'em.  Fuck the haters and fuck the hateful legislation.

Same here. I was the one rocking the black shoes with the brown belt.

I did realize I needed help, so a couple months after starting at UT I recruited my best gay friend to take me shopping, and I'd wear whatever he bought. I gave him carte blanche (French for 250 hard-earned 1997 dollars) and we went to some damn mall back when people shopped in malls, with delighted girl pals in tow.

I was given an earth-tone makeover, just short of making it look like I was "foraging for nuts and berries," to compliment my natural je ne sais quoi of yes I stepped in dog shit, no I do not care.

I'm picturing your 1980's style dressing room fashion montage and you walking out in a new outfit and your gay friend, with his hands over his mouth, saying, "You look like you're foraging for nuts and berries", and you getting all huffy and stomping back into the dressing room.  And if I'm honest, I'm not laughing with you, I'm laughing at you.

He gave good guidance. A couple of years later, some third party told me I should buy some white jeans, he overheard it, then let it be known that I was NOT to wear white jeans.

In the late 80's there was a popular dance club in Austin called "The Boathouse".  It leaned heavily gay, but not exclusively so.  My buddy and I went with our girlfriends and one extra (straight) guy friend, and he wore white jeans.  Oh man, he spent the whole night fending off suitors.  We were so straight and naive that none of us had any idea until we showed up and then . . . oh shit, almost every guy there was dressed in white.

"Good luck, Bob.  We're pulling for you."  So to speak.
