Bryant is a better athlete than QB at this point. He will need a lot of development.

Here's his HUDL for anyone interested: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/19663253/66eb05374114ded35d85082a

He's obviously crazy talented and it would suck to lose him to Tech but I also have no doubt that we'll get ours and be fine. I'd be absolutely fine with Haven, Houston, or whoever we end up with

Money well spent, but coaching is average. Ojo will need a lot of development, as will Bryant, so will Tech continue to stick with high school Joey? He's done nothing to suggest he's nothing more than an average to below average college coach. Give Traylor what they're giving Joey, and that mf'er will show you how it's done.

The Stampede: Latest Texas football recruiting intel (2027)

Latest on 2027 RB target
Speaking of breaking records, Richmond Randle 2027 five-star RB Landen Williams-Callis is getting closer and closer to putting his name atop the rushing records in Texas High School football. Though Jonathan Gray's career touchdown record of 205 will likely never be broken Williams-Callis is currently on pace to finish second all-time in career rushing scores.

The 5-foot-7.5, 190 pounder recently eclipsed the 5,000 career rushing yards mark on Friday and at the pace he's on he should finish top 10 in career rushing yards as well. Williams-Callis' latest performance included 28 carries for 342 yards and six touchdowns on an average of 12.2 yards per carry in a huge 49-42 rivalry win over Iowa Colony. Williams-Callis lost two fumbles on Randle's first two possessions of the game, but the five-star bounced back and was able to lead Randle to a comeback victory after being down 21-0 in the first quarter.

As far as the recruitment goes, at one point in the process, former Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice had the Longhorns at the front of the race for Landen Williams-Callis. Then Detroit came calling and Choice left, and the recruitment opened up a lot more.

Williams-Callis has taken trips to Texas A&M and Oklahoma this fall, and he also has visits coming up to Ohio State, Oregon, SMU, and Texas A&M again. He looked into the Texas-Oklahoma game in Dallas, but since the recruits are only allowed in the stands and can't talk to coaches before or after the game, he's now looking at visiting Austin in November.

However, the trip is yet to be scheduled to Horns247's knowledge.

The highest ranked running back to come out of the Lone Star State in several cycles, Texas will need to land two at the position in 2027 and there wouldn't be a bigger running back class headliner than Williams-Callis. However, there's work to be done as far as getting Texas back to pole position in the recruitment. The Longhorns staff made it out to Randle this past week to visit and chat with Williams-Callis in person, but again, there's work to be done in this recruitment for Texas. (SCRUGGS)

Tech is definitely rolling out cash for top recruits. The good news is that the powers that be in college football aren’t going to put up with Tech, of all programs, turning into a top elite program. They will figure out how to stunt those mental midgets.

Who are the powers that be in college football in this instance?

Campbell was in line to be the college football czar, when this presidential administration was mulling over appointing one. I'm not sure what anyone can do to stop Tech from spending as much money as campbell is willing to spend at this point.

Yeah read this and then tell us who is going to stop him.

Who is Cody Campbell, billionaire Texas Tech booster in commercials?

Interesting side note, Tech recently published their plans to become an AAU university. Campbell is the Chairman of the TTU Board of Regents. Notably - the Big 10 only accepts AAU universities. My suspicion is that Campbell's end game is to get Tech into the Big 10 or SEC and get the NCAA swapped out for more of an NFL-style governance/media setup.

So this knob is going to donate a bunch of money to someone, bribe, whatever, to basically leverage the AAU to admit Tech. Because I've got to say, there's no way Tech is actually fixing their academics enough to qualify.

AAU membership is by invitation only, which requires an affirmative vote of three-fourths of current members. Invitations are considered periodically, based in part on an assessment of the breadth and quality of university programs of research and graduate education, as well as undergraduate education. The association ranks its members using four criteria: research spending, the percentage of faculty who are members of the National Academies, faculty awards, and citations.

Texas, Texas A&M, and Rice are the only AAU universities in Texas.

Forbes rankings has Trinity, SMU, Houston, TCU, and UTD ahead of TTU.
USNews: Baylor, SMU, TCU, UTD, Houston

I guess he could give TTU $100mm to money whip a stellar faculty and spend another $100mm to bribe the AAU committee members.

Tech does have a lot more research programs and spend than those schools, right? I feel like I hear about it a lot with ag stuff specifically.

I'm pretty sure the AAU changed the way they calculate R&D expenditures by removing most agricultural research because it is not competitively funded.  This change led Nebraska to be kicked out, and Iowa State (and possibly Syracuse) to leave voluntarily before risking being kicked out.

I think it's those pesky research doctorates holding Tech back.  SMU and Baylor have been pouring $$$ into doctorate programs and research projects.  TCU awards fewer doctorates than the aforementioned colleges but their entry level salaries roughly double the other Texas schools.  Tech awards a lot of doctorates but their entry level salaries are lower than almost any other Texas college.

We'll see if he sticks. It's 2027 and it's retarded to even be taking commits this early, even for us. I hope Epps sticks, but if he doesn't it's not like I'll be surprised.

Money may bring kids to commit, but more money will get a kid to decommit, especially if the other team is winning and putting players in the league. I expect and hope this year is an outlier, and Flood is "encouraged" to move on after the season. Same with Banks. It's  past time to upgrade.

So I haven’t been following 2027 recruiting at all. There’s a rumor Sark isn’t doing much and Texas is in real trouble for the 2027 class. There was also a rumor of PK getting out too, although he obviously doesn’t do as much recruiting. Anyone getting a sense things are going sideways?

I'm gonna' sound a little satyish on this, but as things look now, recruiting board should prepare for aggy to get most of the big names in-state (and some OOS) based on predictions and who's been visiting games for them.

Fat Ketch is full of it, but that piece about John Meredith and recruiting for the 27' probably has some truth to it when you look at who they've been able to get to visit games.  Meredith is in the DFW area and still went to the aggy game instead of the Cotton Bowl two weeks ago.

Probably the wrong thread but how can Tech afford to spend all of this $21MM on a few of these players?

Curious who you think is going to do anything to stop a school/booster/ collective/ whatever term you wish to use from spending whatever money they damn well wish to buy players?

Not just great athletes, but fucking competitors you damn near needed to kill to beat.

Tough internet guy...  My question was more along the lines of the changes in NIL with the $21MM allotment and then all other NIL deals must be approved by Deloitte.  So I guess the answer to your question would be Deloitte and whomever they are reporting to?

Handful of Recruiting Nuggets

***

With the decision of 2027 QB Kavian Bryant heading out west to Texas Tech, the Longhorns wasted no time adding a 2027 quarterback to the visitors list for the return to DKR vs. Vanderbilt.

Smithson Valley QB Ty Knutson was the quarterback visitor Texas hosted on Saturday. OTF mentioned him on Saturday evening following the game, but I wanted to include his remarks on the game again.

"It was great," Knutson said postgame. "I loved the environment and all of the coaches were great to me"

Knutson was able to spend time with AJ Milwee and a handful of personnel members following the game. The big key moving forward is further evaluation. Knutson said the Longhorn staff will continue to keep up with him over the next couple of weeks, including a visit south to San Antonio to see him in action.

The 6-foot-3-inch quarterback earned offers in June from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, North Texas and a handful of others.

With 2028 being a massive class nationally at the quarterback position, it would make plenty of sense if this is the direction Texas goes in 2027.

***

2027 DB JayQuan Snell

Worth mentioning here.

2027 star Waxahachie DB JayQuan Snell did not make the trip to Columbus this weekend, in which he was previously scheduled to do so.

Why is this significant? Ohio State sent a safeties coach down to Waxahachie late last week who spent 3-4 hours on campus meeting with the staff and Snell. Right now, the Buckeyes should be considered the favorite, and had Snell made the trip it would have been no surprise to see a decision pop up. However, with Snell not making the trip, that timeline is pushed a bit.

Texas has a lot of work to do here after previously this recruitment being viewed as a Texas vs. Texas A&M battle.

Probably not, 2028 would be the next class we bring in a high profile qb recruit.

Yeah, we weren't going to get a top QB the year after Dia Bell. Trey Owens was our take the year after Arch, everyone should've been expecting something similar this year.

This. Bryant looks fantastic but I'd take Bell over every QB I've seen in the 2027 class in a heartbeat. That said, Tech is getting to be real a pain in the ass. Assuming there's any truth to some of the rumors going around, I really hope Sark gets his shit together, personally and professionally, so we can remind those jackasses of their place. aggy too. Reestablishing our lead for Meredith would be a fantastic start

To show the stark contrast between the winners and the bridesmaids, we will go with three schools who consistently win- Ohio State, Bama, and Georgia.

I really don't understand why, if it's possible, Sark doesn't go get a high four-star or even five-star QB each class, rather than skip one or two years and land a low four-star or high three-star? If a kid is willing to come, take him. Not all these QBs are pirmadonnas and will fight for their chance. Surely Sarkisian is smart enough to understand this? This is how successful programs operate, see below-

Ohio State: I will note that Urban Meyer did recruit Joe Burrow, but let's jut start with Ryan Day taking over as HC - 2018: Matthew Baldwin (#10 QB low four-star, now at TCU- mulligan inherited from Meyer): 2019: Justin Fields (#2 QB five-star #2 overall/#1 QB transfer five-star #1 overall); 2020: CJ Stroud (#2 QB five-star #29 overall), Jack Miller (three-star); 2021: Quinn Ewers (#1 QB five-star #1 overall), Kyle McCord (#8 QB high four-star #49 overall); 2022: Devin Brown (#5 QB high four-star #44 overall); 2023: Lincoln Kienholz (#11 QB high four-star #138 overall); 2024: Julian Sayin (#3 QB five-star transfer #20 overall/#1 QB transfer), Will Howard (transfer), Air Noland (#7 QB high four-star #61 overall); 2025: Tavien St. Clair (#3 QB five-star #4 overall); 2026: Luke Fahey (#31 QB TBD final ranking), 2027: Brady Edmunds (#11 QB high four-star #142 overall. Subject to change). Weather they transfer or not is irrelevant, it's the fact Sarkisian didn't just take a warm body to be nothing more than roster-filler.

This is the program we should be modeling ourselves after.

Since 2019-

2019: Justin Fields five-star #2 overall

2020: CJ Stroud five-star #29 overall

2021: Quinn Ewers five-star #1 overall; Kyle McCord high four-star #49 top-50

2022: Devin Brown high four-star #44 overall top-50

2023: Lincoln Kienholz high four-star #138 top-150

2024: Julian Sayin five-star #20 overall (#1 transfer); Will Howard; Air Noland four-star #61 overall top-75

2025: Tavier St. Clair #3 QB five-star #4 overall

No issues recruiting top-50 QBs each year, transfer or not. Day wants to win, not pander. I hate that kiddie peddler as much as anyone else, but the motherfucker can recruit and knows to stock up on elite QB/WR talent and let them eat other into their spots.

They currently havs 3 QBs on scholarship, with two being five-star and one high four star.

Tex/Sark:

2021: Charles Wright (#53 QB - Sark gets a mulligan here because these were not his recruits outside of Xavier Worthy)

2022: Quinn Ewers (#1 five-star QB transfer, came home after Herman got the pink slip because he's a Longhorn for life and always has been) Maalik Murphy (#9 QB four-star #197) 7th rd. Yes I am thankful for all he did, good of bad , he got us back to back semis but more depth across the the entire offense, eoud it kill him to play freshman? I feel like I'm back in time with the bleed for the program instead of playing the three mst talented

2023: Arch Manning (#1 QB five-star #1 overall) grew up at Longhorn fan, just wanted to add that because it's pretty fucking cool. First year starting. Lots of ups and downs. A work in progress.

2024: Trey Owens #16 QB low four-star Not Ranked, but somewhere in the 300s) transfer candidate

🤞 2025: KJ Lacey #19 QB low four-star Not Ranked, but somewhere in the 300s) seems like a baller, hoping for the best; Matthew Caldwell transfer. Gone after this season.

2026: Dia Bell #3 QB five-star #10 overall

Texas: has three true recruited scholarship QBs on the roster - one five-star and two unranked low four-stars.

2027: Sark should be battling for Elijah Haven out of Louisiana that's committed to Bama. #1 QB. Gunner Rivers out of Alabama uncommitted. Brady Edmunds out of Cali committed ro Ohio State. If anyone knows anything about QB play, it's Ohio State. I couldn't care less about Kavien Bryant, unless he decides he wants to come here. If not, whatever. But he needs to change his philosophy to get the best of the best year-in and year-out. Fuck hurrt feeijgsm

If Arch comes back, we're about to have 3 QBs on scholarship assuming Owens transfers, if not we're absolutely fucked. He's coming back, just saying. Then we'll get another transfer. This ain't it. This isn't how you succeed. You want the best of the best to go against each other.

As an aside, we should offer Brian Hartline an ungodly amount of money to get us WR's. Motherfucker can recruit them like it's as easy as getting out of bed.

Every year since 2015, Bama has had either a five-star or a kid ranked in the top-100. Three years he didn't - 2018, 2019, 2023, and they were still ranked in the top-150 overall.

Bama: has three scholarship QBs on their roster - two five-stars and one top-75 high four star

I understand people will probably disagree because...reasons. We almost lost our starting QB to a Mississippi State defense and then he came out the next game dealing. Let's hope he keeps it up, or else we're all going back to Caldwell should starts thread.

Georgia: one high four star top-100 starting (Stockton), one high four-star top-75, one high four-star top-150, one high four-star top-200, and then one five-star for 2026, Jared Curtis, ranked only behind Dia Bell.

2016: five-star

2017: top-150 high four-star

2018: five-star

2019 - low three-star

2020 - top-250 high four-star (Carson Beck)

2021 - five-star

Just an asidd, Stetson Bennet, 7 year  student was a three-star and an obvious outlier.

Since Kirby took over in 2016, they have had either a five-star, or high four-star QB each year. (four five-stars, one rop-50, one top-75, one top-150, one top-200, one top-250).

They will have 4 QBs on scholarship if Stockton doesn't come back who are all in the top-150 or higher. If Stockton comes back they will have 5 QBs on scholarship with four being top-200 (198) or higher.

1- five-star

4- high four-stars

We are the outlier with one highly ranked and two forgotten in the rankings, and Owens is probably transferring, although I don't know why he would.

We bitch about the OL, but Sark's philosophy in recruiting but, QBs has to change. We're in hospice mode, just circulating the drain. We are so far behind programs like Ohio State we should be emulating. Our QB room is nothimg less than exsangauinated.
