"$1 Million, eh?  Call my buddy in Nigeria, fucko."

or

"Hey, aren't you the motherfuckers who videoed me beating off to tranny porn?  When is that going public?"

My grandmother has been a victim of something similar. Guy calls her up, impersonates me, and tells her that I'm in jail and the only way to get out is to give them gift cards from Walmart. When grandpa was still alive he'd call them motherfuckers and hang up but grandma is a bit loopy and would do anything for me if I asked her which makes her a huge target. We now have a sheet of paper in front of her phone that has a password and we tell her to hang up if they can't correctly give her the password. So far so good!

Um, this has happened to them more than once?  Sounds more like a family member is scamming her.

Happened to my son. He recently got a call supposedly from one of his best friends. It was very frantic, but the scammer used words and phrases that his friend would never use. So he asked him when was the last time you were at my house? What kind of car were you driving? Of course they couldn't answer, so he hung up and called the friend, who was sitting in his underwear, eating cold pizza at home.

We got police involved the first time around and the call was coming from India. Unfortunately they don't have caller ID at the house.

That is scary shit…regardless. I know two elderly people who have been scammed (their caller ID read 911–yes they have land lines bc they are old) or at least it was attempted…but it was an IRS type of deal and they believed it up until the point where the caller said they’d be arrested if they didn’t go and buy Amazon gift cards. The caller was like we are coming to arrest you for back payment of scamming the IRS. Luckily they called friends from their cell phones and asked if that could happen to them.

Another scam, again, it happened to my son. I was with him on the way to the deer lease when it all went down. A scammer hacked and copied his Snapchat page. the hackers sent a message, posing as him, to all his friends that asked them to Venmo him money, as he was unable to pay his rent for the month. Of course, his phone blew up with everyone calling him, since they all knew he lived at home. No one got suckered into sending him money. He has since, closed his Snapchat, and all social media, the only way to reach him is by text, voice, or email. Like a normal adult.

That is awesomely funny.  Nobody got ripped off, and hopefully they still gave him some shit.

That would never happen to my mom. Depending on what the charges were, she would leave me in there.

When she dropped me off in Austin all those years ago, I was told that if I go to jail for stupid shit, don't call home. And I didn't.

Didn't call home or didn't go to jail?

I rarely answer the phone if I don't know who it is and I'm not expecting a call.

Exactly. I need to tell my kids that if they ever get taken, make sure the kidnapper sends me a text because I'm not answering a call or listening to a voicemail.

72 hours from now, you will read a story about an AI robo-call demanding that someone make a strawman purchase of an AR-15 and leave it a designated location behind a Texas strip center.  The weapon will then be used in the days after, legally, in a mass shooting.  It's coming, the fatalities will number in the high single digits.  And there isn't a single fucking thing any of you can do about it.  Open carry all you want, people are going to blackmail people into arms purchases.  The hail of gunfire is going to be glorious.  So cute y'all are worried about kidnapping.  This bodycount is going into triple digits.

Just tell the kids you don't negotiate with kidnappers and they're on their own.

I could say that, but my kids know it's not true. I would move heaven and earth to get them to safety. I would pay any amount of money and would go to the ends of the earth to find them. I would do anything to help them. Well, besides listening to a voicemail from an unknown number. That's a bridge too far.

When I was a boy I remember sitting on the commode at Sanger Harris with the door wide open, and some old man came in, he looked like Moonlight Graham, the old one, he was wearing that hat and everything, and he said, that's a biggen. I do not know if he was talking about me, or my tiny penis, or my turd, but I also think he might have tried to kidnap me. I do not remember that part.

The password is beef curtain, isn’t it?
