Haven't gone all the way through this thread in a long time, but have a feeling In Through the Out Door gets short shrift.  Maybe because it's the first Zep album I bought myself (I had a copy of Zep II that was my mom's),  coming right at that cusp where I turned from AM radio to FM radio, late 1978 into 1979, but I think it's a damn solid album.  yes, I even like Hot Dog.  But In the Evening, Carouselambra, really that whole 2nd side is fucking gold, All My Love and I'm Gonna Crawl really send them off in fine form, nothing to be ashamed of.  Considering what they went through to make that album, it's pretty fucking great.

(although that flubbed note at 2:50 will stick in my brain forever...)

I’ve always loved South Bound Saurez.

Thank you so much for bringing this album up.

I sometimes forget about it, then I hear that great shuffle and guitar groove on “Fool in the Rain.”

My band in high school used to play Hot Dog. It's a riot.

In the Evening is a top 5 Zep song to me too.

That was the first song I ever tabbed out completely on my own. In retrospect, I probably should’ve picked something a bit slower. I probably burned out the motor on my cassette player. I’ll chalk it up to misspent youth.

Say Chad, how'd you burn out your cassette player?

"Jammed to In Through the Out Door too many times."

Then how'd you burn out your video tape player?

"Fapped to In Through the Out Door, Part 4 too many times."

Misspent Youth, eh?

One of my older siblings had ITTOD cassette and that was pretty much my introduction to Zeppelin in 6th/7th grade.  By 8th grade, I had saved up to buy a CD player and first album I bought on the new format was "Led Zeppelin II"  I musta played along with "Heartbreaker" a thousand times.  Never once got close to getting it right, but it was fun as hell.  50 years ago next week, the first group non-studio rehearsals begin for "Physical Graffiti."  They will head into the studio to record in November 1973.  All kinds of issues and delays await, but 50 fucking years ago next week, the foundation was laid for that amazingly diverse album.

I tabbed out that solo to "Heartbreaker" - at least all the bits after that cascade of notes freakout.

I had a lot of time on my hands around 8th grade.  I'll remind everyone this was pre-internet and pron was hard to come by.

Yeah, I said it.

Right there, too.  I imagine Led Zeppelin, and really all rock music of the 70's would have been a lot less popular amongst those of us who came up listening/playing it in the 80's & 90's had we an infinite amount of free porn.

I tabbed out a few Zeppelin songs in later junior high.  Sounds like you were much more diligent.  I gave up guitar at 15, my last growth spurt-I lost whatever little hand-eye coordination I had.  Stuck with drums for a bit since that's a little less nuanced and I had good rhythm and stamina (that's what she said).  While I tried to imitate Page, I never bothered mimicking Bonham.  Could do some swings and shuffles and basic blues, but once you've heard "Ramble On"'s Bonham, you know you're just wasting sticks and time.

Also-maybe it was mentioned upthread but I don't think so and we should kick ourselves---Robert Plant turned 75 this week.

Im.sure I've posted before, but was at this show and Page was on point.

They recruited a bunch of local high school kids to do the orchestral parts. I can't even imagine how badass that was for those kids.

I used to watch the celebration show for hours on end on youtube, until most of the videos were removed from youtube.

Late to the thread on this but...   I generally don't care for live albums/performances but Celebration Day absolutely kicks ass.   Hard to believe that was almost 17 years ago.

where was that show in austin/which venue?  Dammit, a year or so before I moved to Austin.  Didn't even realize that whole tour (have some audio downloads from multiple shows but no video) that they had a rhythm guitarist and that Jimmy Page looked exactly like Elon Musk would after a serious heroin binge.

And as we've discussed on multiple threads, the futility of "best guitarist" or "best drummer" or best whatever.  There's different generations, different styles.  They all steal from one another across epochs and meridians.  But I just don't hear anybody else, and I've nearly heard them all live from John Lee Hooker to Dan Auerbach and almost everyone in between...that gets more out of six strings and a simple amp stack with very little help from anything/anyone than Mister Jimmy Page.

Somehow I missed both this post and this show.  This was my last semester of undergrad, and I'm trying to figure out how I could've missed this show.  My guess is that this was Spring Break and I probably couldn't afford to go to this, but I could afford to get into some sxsw show somewhere down on 6th or thereabouts.

so it was a Monday night at the Erwin Center (which explains the shitty sound quality).  And during spring break, which would explain why most of you didn't attend (including me).  And while that was SXSW technically, it was right before the main festival and not affiliated at all.  Though I'm sure there was some crossover benefit to Page/Plant and the other musical acts in town for SXSW proper.  Looks like they headed off to Houston the next morning.

Here's a fucking throwback.  Who opened for them that night?  Rusted Root.  Holy cow, talk about a shit band I only listened to in order to curry favor with a chick I liked who dug that crap music.

I don't know why I just assumed that show was at Palmer or Austin Music Hall, but I guess Erwin Center makes the most sense.  Maybe we should go digging around the rubble for an old Les Paul pick or heroin needle.

Sound quality is on from whoever recorded that with their camera. That show fucking rocked. No issue with the sound in person.

Shit, I thought that was a soundboard camera.  I dunno.  I remember my buddy Taylor who was probably at that show would sneak in a handicam or whatever when we'd go to Liberty Lunch or the Backyard and tape shows.  We got kicked out of one at southpark meadows which was weird because it was a massive crowd in broad daylight, don't know how they saw him.  But bright red light and massively illuminated 6" screen at Liberty Lunch at midnight to see Morphine?  Apparently we just blended in.

Somebody else posted a video of Page & the Firm at FEC awhile back, similiar stylings.  As I posted above, I've seen Plant, Jones, and Page with various bandmates over the years and obviously know I couldn't have seen Zeppelin since they disbanded when I was 4.  But really, really wish I coulda seen Plant & Page during that mid/late 90's push they made.  Plant and Jonesy seem happy with that they're doing.  But something about Jimmy.  Only know from interviews and documentaries, but he is just a beyond gifted talent (both technically on the guitar and as a songwriter) ship lost at sea for the last 40+ years.  I think it's all still there in this bones but without Zeppelin and his 3 mates, he could just never figure out how to deploy that greatness into our realm.  It's still in his eyes, even at his age.  That sparkle.  You seem him come alive when he plays the same riff from 50 years ago.  I think he has so much more left in the tank, but just no outlet.  He certainly tried to find the right people to collaborate with, but maybe it's just a case of leaving it all out on the field as it were.

I get the keen sense I'll be doing my every-few-years deep dive into the Zeppelin catalogue this holiday season when I've got some quiet time from work.

Kenneth Anger said he cursed Jimmy Page after Page only provided 20 minutes of the 40 he promised for the film Lucifer Rising. He said he put the Curse of Midas on Page. He'd have all of his gold but would be unable to be successful with his music again.
