No one is OK with that shit Flood is trotting and has been for the past 5 seasons. He's gone after this season, anyway. Thankfully. Let's hope Sark finds a guy who can punch above their weight and get more 4/5* linemen than 3* projects. And development is key. The guy has to be able to develop, even in his first year with what Flood has left him. Sark is not keeping that lazy retread around simply because CDC doesn't like losing, and he has functioning eyes like the rest of us.

We see what Arch can do with competent line play, not even high-level linemen. If he can get dudes that will push motherfuckers around, watch out. Plus that will open up the run game, and if that happens, we're cooking with arson.

I must have missed the story, but is the bold above true or wishful thinking.

The OL is a huge downgrade but it’s not a downgrade from a good or elite line. It’s a downgrade to an above average to good pass blocking line and a bad run blocking line.

How many elite lines were there in college football last year? How many teams had better lines than we did?

Mostly wishful thinking, but if something isn't working on all cylinders by season 5, one would hope the outcome will be we upgrade. And yes, it's me wishing into the universe it will happen because frankly, I'm sick of 3 star, lazy developmental bullshit, and if we're ever going to win a NC under Sarkisian we will need a dominant line to do so, and where has it been?

We can't keep letting QBs come here to die. At some point in the near future, if we've cycled through three top 5 five-star QBs and have nothing to show for it except for the occasional CFP appearances, then we've hit our ceiling and kids aren't going to want to play for a coach who isn't developing them. Since 2019 with a funny, but aloof moron you have Ed Orgeron, Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Jim Harbaugh, and Ryan Day all winning championships, and you know what they all had in common? Great OL and QB play, and say what you will about JJ McCarthy, he's still a first rd pick. On one game alone we're hoping the OL is modicum at best. Every dude on that line outside of Baker has been here for 3+ years and we are...well, you have eyes. The only shining light that came out of them almost getting our former #1 overall QB killed in the 4th qtr against, and hang with me here, Mississippi State defense, is it built character and somehow made him play better the next game. Will that continue? We're about to find out.

This discussion is crazy.  Anytime you put 4 OL in the NFL in a single year, that OL was elite.

I think what some are trying to say is that Filet Mignon, Ardbeg Corryvrecken, HEB Creamy Creations Ice Cream, and Chicken Fried Steak are all awesome things that anyone in the NFL would love to have on their team, but when mixed together into a bowl they can't run the ball on Georgia.

for reference about olines. per the media  vandy has the best oline in the country. they sure looked like it. newsflash....olines don't look great against nfl front sevens. Oline is an attitude and can be affected by gameplan also. I feel we don't force the run enough. therefore we look like we can't do it. I think they can be better but well see

I’m pretty sure nobody is trying to say that…

It's both a blessing and a curse to be great at football. You're now rich, but you have to live in New Jersey.

Fucking goddam New Jersey…

Utah has the best line in the country.

UT finished in top three for Joe Moore award , with  Oregon  and behind Army. All of the shitting on Flood is as stupid as the shitting on Sark and Manning.

It would almost be worth it to be poor in New York than be rich in NJ. That entire state inhabits the dregs of humanity. It's just basically society's sediment. Fuck that entire state.

10 teams were semi-finalists for the Joe Moore award including Texas…Army won it!

He did really fuck up the interior recruiting / not identifying it as a deficit this year, but as with so much Texas football related items, people have the memory of goldfish. Flood has been the best OL coach at Texas in decades. One down year shouldn’t be an automatic firing.

Lulz. Ever been up there?

I have, on a few occasions. I have family in NY and I asked to go there. Obviously I was being hyperbolic about the state. We visited Princeton, and we went to Cape May for a few days. Their architecture is beautiful. And we went to Atlantic City, but I don't gamble, so to me that was meh. We took a trip to Asbury Park, and had a great time, even though some people said it could be dangerous, but we didn't see anything I would call a 'red flag'. I will say the worst city we visited was Camden. Really bland and couldn't find anything to do other than hit some bars.

Brooklyn is kind of dope af. It was nothing like I expected, but what I expected was something out of Wu-tang lyrics, when it kind of let me down. We drove through Queens and Staten Island. How did you like living in The Bronx?

How do you define if something is elite without comparing it to peer group?

Sounds like you've only been to Newark and Trenton.

Probably not on a season to season basis. Are shitty OL less shitty individually because of a down OL year nationally? (Not saying ours was last year)

Moreover though, none of these OL being discussed have anything to do with 2025 Arch Manning

Nah. I was just being hyperbolic. I've seen some beautiful parts. We drove through Newark but didn't stop. We did go through Camden and it was just...nothing. We hit up a few bars, and then booked it. It looked kind of rundown. We went to Atlantic City (I don't gamble so it's not for me, but at night it's beautiful. Same for Las Vegas. I've never been and don'tcare to visit), Cape May, Asbury Park, and took a trip to Princeton to see their campus, which is quite nice. Their architecture is stunning.

Obviously I haven't seen the whole state, but as Jimmy Jazz pointed out, apparently the rural parts are beautiful. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

If the OL that showed up for Vandy shows up for Georgia, I'll be quite happy. I never thought I would say this, but moving Hutson to LG seemed to make him look competent (horrendous RG), and Robertson at C isn't bad at all. Goosby is decent but by next year if he continues his progression, he should be elite. Baker is getting better and better each week, so I'm eager to see how he holds up against elite DE's.

This is true, but do you think that is a high bar?

The issue we had last year was more about the structure of the offense than it was OL talent. Teams figured out that when we were all bunched up in those tight formations that they could send the house at us and get home almost every time. That really came home to roost with Kirby in the Georgia game last year, but we had been seeing glimpses of it all season. Plus Quinn's pocket presence and elusiveness were embarrassing.

I'm not sure what you think a good O-line is but we were not good. We couldn't run the football against high level opponents. We had way too many penalties. I think we lead the league in holding if I am not mistaken and we had way too many busts. Banks was good, but everywhere else was an issue, especially Cam Williams. We were talked up coming off 2023 largely because Big12 but it was pretty apparent early that the SEC was a different animal. Cam Williams got drafted strictly on measurables. A good Oline is Bama at their peak, or 2023 Michigan. I think we've been so mediocre on the line for so long that people are just okay with meh at this point.

I won't call them flat bad.  This year is flat bad.

But for the reasons you cite, they were less than championship caliber, for sure, and were exposed when playing top-level defenses.

I dont look at it as good or bad. Can the position group do their job at a level that will contribute to winning a championship? Thats gotta be the standard. OL last year did not meet that standard.
