Did the ball somehow go back towards the rim before he touches it?

Yes. It had a ton of backspin. That picture is beyond worthless.

Do you understand what “above the cylinder” means?

I mean, that's not really how physics works with basketball and the amount of spin we're talking about here. Once it leaves the cylinder on a rebound, it's not coming back on its own. KAT's initial touch brought it back.

That said, the refs absolutely made the right call on the court. They're looking at slow-mo, not frame-by-frame still shots. On replay, it never appeared to fully leave the cylinder. No issue with the call whatsoever.

Here’s a better shot

At least this photo is a better attempt. After watching 6 years of shitty soccer VAR I can tell you that camera angles matter.

If you want to know if the ball is above the cylinder in that shot you would need a camera directly above the rim. This angle 2 feet behind the backboard isn’t going to tell you anything definitively. They reviewed the call in their command center and were fine with it.

So your bitching about a close play while admitting they got away with a backcourt on the next possession? Makes sense .

Yea. I have balls to admit something. You defended THJs blatant flop.

Also the back court play probably doesn’t even happen if they corrected the offensive goaltending call. Totally different game

Weird , they reviewed the so called “flop” and the goaltending and it stood , must be conspiracy .

Looks about right. Idk about Sabonis and Haliburton but the last spot or two always gets murky.

5 players of the 15 accounted for 1 total playoff win. AD, Bron, Steph, Book and KD. Giannis also DNP.

"Bring Ya Ass"  😋

Really enjoying this wolves/mavs series on TNT much more than Eastern Finals.  Wish they would lose Draymond though...

Also, Thanks to everyone that answered why they hate the boston/celtics -- great stuff.

24 years of All-NBA 1st team players. Had to look up the 5th guy in 2015, because that is a portrait of a very young looking Marc Gasol. Funny to see Jokic left off 2023 when he should have been MVP and won the championship. The 2024 group feels like it will stay the same for next few year, but I could see Antman knocking Tatum out soon.

Long time coming, will be interesting to see who they hire and if that helps Mitchell sign an extension.

Cavaliers fire coach J.B. Bickerstaff after five seasons

Quote

Despite the franchise's first berth in the Eastern Conference semifinals in six seasons, the Cleveland Cavaliers dismissed coach J.B. Bickerstaff on Thursday morning.

Bickerstaff, 45, ushered the Cavaliers through a rebuild, winning 99 regular-season games in the past two seasons, but the franchise now embarks on a search that it hopes will land a coach to take Cleveland deeper into the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Coaching Wins, Cavaliers history

J.B. Bickerstaff finishes his Cavaliers tenure with the fifth-most wins by a coach in franchise history.

COACH    WINS    SEASONS
Lenny Wilkens    316    7
Mike Brown    305    6
Bill Fitch    304    9
Mike Fratello    248    6
J.B. Bickerstaff    170    5
After replacing John Beilein as interim coach in 2020, Bickerstaff had a 170-159 (.517) record in five seasons with the Cavaliers.

Cleveland was the Eastern Conference's fourth seed with a 48-34 record, beating the Orlando Magic in an opening-round seven-game series. Boston defeated Cleveland 4-1 in the conference semifinals as center Jarrett Allen and All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell missed the final two games.

Cleveland wants a fresh approach, and president of basketball operations Koby Altman and general manager Mike Gansey will embark on a coaching search.

Altman and Gansey will start to formulate a list of candidates in the coming days, but one to watch is Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, who led the Brooklyn Nets to the playoffs with current Cavs Allen and Caris LeVert.

The Cavaliers have a significant talent base, with All-Star guards Mitchell and Darius Garland and a frontcourt of Allen and Evan Mobley.

Under Bickerstaff, the Cavaliers were seventh in defensive efficiency with Mitchell, Garland, Mobley and Allen playing only 28 games together this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Coaching (especially in the NBA) is a thankless job but firing him after he led them out of the doldrums, got them to the 2nd round and competed with a 66 win team before almost all of his team went on IR seems crazy.

They are going to let Mitchell hire the coach, essentially. It's all ridiculous because he's going to sign the extension no matter what. If he doesn't like what's going on in Cleveland, then he just asks out. There's all this posturing these days about free agents and movement, but when was the last time a bona fide star free agent actually got to the market? There is no downside to taking the extension. You maximize your money and get your security, and then just pull the cord if you want out. So, so dumb.

The more interesting thing is Garland. Seems like he's going to ask for a trade if they keep Mitchell.

Bickerstaff was a dead man walking. They released a full hit piece on him within minutes of their getting bounced from the playoffs. He's at odds with the front office. Mitchell (and it seems, much of the team) lost confidence in him. And he's just not a very good coach in general. That team didn't win because of him. They won in spite of him.

I guess Kawhi was the last big FA signing?  Although debatable if there was ever a “market” for him because he wanted to go back to California. Before that I’m guessing it’s LeBron to Lakers/Durant and Kyrie to Brooklyn?

My first thought was, "I would love to watch Barkley and Shaq go off on the A&M band and yell leaders". But then I realized it said playoff games and not "minor bowl games before Christmas" and got a sad.

Love this Western Conf Final matchup.  In 4th qtr, Minny settled for too many jumpshots.  Also gonna more out of ANT late in games.  Wolves were definitely gassed in 4th qtr of GM 1.

Freakin' Luka and Kyrie are damn good closers.

I know the Celtics are not liked on this site, but they were pretty damn good tonight. They win it in 6

Haliburton has a hamstring problem now

Indy’s all but cooked. Boston will have a week to rest while the west beats themselves up. They’re about to make last years nuggets run look like murderers row

So Boston gets the Heat with no Jimmy, the Cavs without Mitchell, and the Pacers (potentially) without Haliburton?  Good crap.  I guess if they crush the Wolves/Mavs winner it won’t matter.

I also don’t get why people rag on the Nuggets run last year.  Wolves, Suns, Lakers, and Heat all had their star players.

Probably because of the seeds. 8, 4, 7, whatever Miami was, 7?

The #2 grizz and #3 kings also lost in the first round . Not that they were gonna beat Denver. West will be tougher next year with Memphis returning and Houston/San Antonio.

Some teams should regress- warriors, clippers, lakers due to age

Simmons has been calling for Brissett to play. Today he led the C's in +/- (+18) in 12 minutes.

Well, when you’re the 1 seed by definition you have to play an 8 and a 4/5. The Lakers got it together after the trade deadline and nobody believed that Heat team was the 8th worst team in the East. Agree the West is way better this year but shit the East is way worse.

This actually did make me LOL. I don’t care how they talk so long as they aren’t doing something or saying something that intentionally hurts others. The NBA is lucky to have guys like Edwards, Jokic, Doncic and others.  It’s a fun time especially if you are just a fan of the sport in general.

Boston won the East by 14 games.  Largest gap in either division since the NBA/ABA merger.
3-0 vs Miami regular season
2-1 vs Cleveland regular season
3-2 vs Indiana regular season
The odds were well in their favor to come out of the East, regardless of who was playing.

Sure, but those are three lottery teams without Butler / Mitchell & Allen /  Halliburton. Literally, they would be among the 10 worst teams in the NBA. Better than Detroit, Washington, Portland and Charlotte, but even Atlanta and Chicago would have given them a better challenge.  Sac, GS, Houston, & Utah -- none of whom made the playoffs -- would have been more competitive.

It's the luckiest run, ever. And it's very disappointing from a fans perspective. The NBA playoffs are supposed to be basketball played at its highest and most competitive level. Who wants to watch this shit?

I'm sure you were very upset for the fans when Tatum was playing with a broken wrist in the '22 playoffs or rolled his ankle in G7 of last year's ECF.  We can pull your posts where you lamented the lessened fan experience when both teams weren't at full strength, yes?  Not that Boston deserved the loss when their All-NBA forward couldn't walk?

Boston beat those teams at full strength during the regular season, so it's not like they're getting over on a better team.  Would it have been more entertaining if all the series were going 7?  Sure.  You're whining about something that no one has any control over.  Life isn't fair - if it was, we'd all have giant crabs in our bathrooms.
