The horror of war is shown upfront, nothing like the book burning of All Quiet in the Western Front. Top brass take their demotion with full responsibility. It's pretty well-known that Heinlein wrote the book espousing militaristic and ultra-nationalist views, likely in a fit of post-WWII anti-communism. Paul Verhoeven, the Dutch director who lived through Nazi-occupied Holland, found the source material revolting and sought to parodize and satirize those elements of the book. And that included a lot of intentionally nazi-esque images, including the uniforms, the logo of the Federation, etc. The article above seems to conflate Starship Troopers with Ender's Game, though. Heinlein hated the stopping of the nuke program, it's how we got Starship Troopers. He wasn't some Nazi sympathizer either, just a libertarian. It's why he states that taxes are low in the book. He didn't even like hard borders, and nothing in the book insinuated him be racist at all, or even sexist. The pilots were all women. Verhoven didn't like the military aspects, obviously, but it takes place during a war, so kinda hard to get away from that. It also didn't help that the attack on the Skinnies at the beginning he bombs a church, so that makes sense.

So you're saying the US in WWII was motivated by ultra-nationalism and authoritarianism? While it was fighting authoritarian nationalist nations? Is this like when you accused me of being an "antifa fascist"? Because you're just throwing shit against the wall lol Specifically in the story if you REALLY want to get into the novel: the Federation forbid ANY childbirth unless licensed, the Mormons went off and started their own colony so they could fuck and have a bunch of babies as Mormons are want to do, which kicked off the arachnid war because the humans stepped over the line. If the Federation weren't so totalitarian and authoritarian, it would allow everyone to have children - not just those that have done violence for the state. There's loads of examples that you could dive into to demonstrate the abundance of fascistic imagary in the film, and they don't all revolve around clothes. Edited November 22, 20241 yr by Captainant

I actually don't think either are nazis, but you did remind me of the licensing for kids, which I'd agree is totalitarian, and just a weird hoop for no reason, not too far from the 1 child policy in China. November 23, 20241 yr Remember last month when Musk asked idiots to upload their medical records to Twitter? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/18/well/x-grok-health-privacy.html Elon Musk Asked People to Upload Their Health Data. X Users Obliged. Privacy experts cringed when people started feeding their medical images to the A.I. tool Grok. https://fortune.com/2024/11/20/elon-musk-x-user-medical-information-privacy-ai-grok/ Elon Musk asked people to upload their medical data to X so his AI company could learn to interpret MRIs and CT scans https://www.blackenterprise.com/why-elon-musks-grok-may-be-athreat-to-medical-privacy/ Quote Some people who volunteered images celebrated Grok being “spot on” with blood test results and breast cancer detection but others waved red flags against the platform. Josh Sharp, who goes by @showinvestment on social media, pointed out how a broken clavicle was looked at as a dislocated shoulder. Quote Another example is the bot mistaking a mammogram of a benign breast cyst for an image of testicles. Quote While some have praised the potential technology advancement, medical privacy experts are not in that camp. “This is very personal information, and you don’t exactly know what Grok is going to do with it,” Vanderbilt University’s professor of biomedical informatics, Dr. Bradley Malin said, according to the New York Times. “Posting personal information to Grok is more like, ‘Wheee! Let’s throw this data out there, and hope the company is going to do what I want them to do.” Quote The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects medical information when shared with doctors or on a patient portal, as federal guidelines protect it from being shared without consent. But protections do not reach social media sites—only for doctors’ offices, hospitals, health insurers, and some companies they work with. ——- Best comment: “Grok now full of undiagnosed mental illness.”

They partnered with IBM eight years ago to use Watson to help triage studies so that the most urgent cases were prioritized. This shit is not new and is pretty regularly used in the radiology world at this point.
