He was throwing 83 MPH. They were concerned with his health.

The plan was definitely not for him to throw 1.1 innings when this is the time of year when nailing down a 4th starter who can give you length is important.

Halfway through SEC play we stand at 29-5 overall and 13-2 in SEC play. Safe to say we are well ahead of any reasonable expectations coming into the season.

Looking ahead, we have 4 non-conf games and 15 conference games remaining. I think a reasonable projection would be 3-1 on the mid-weeks and 9-6 in conference. I'd characterize this as a "middle" scenario. Not the floor, but not the ceiling. This would put us at 41-7 and 22-8 going into the conf tourney.

Good for a top 8 seed?

How could our total losses be a smaller number than conference losses?

Shit. 41-12.

Seven was the additional number of losses. Brain didn't do the last step.

41-12, 22-8 should be good for top 8 imo

Aggy heading to Arkansas this weekend starting on Thursday has become suddenly an interesting series.

Will tell us a lot about the status of both teams when it is completed.

Lol, that will net us a top 4 seed nationally. 22 wins is phenomenal.

Last year's SEC national seeds and their conference records:

1.  Tennessee (22-8)

2.  Kentucky (22-8)

3.  Texas A&M (19-11)

5.  Arkansas (20-10)

7.  Georgia (17-13)

22-8 is outstanding and a lock for a top 8 seed.

Georgia at #3 is an absolute joke. They barely scraped by Arkansas at home and Arkansas has a much better resume than Georgia overall. I know it doesnt matter, but it's weird how these rankings are all over the place.

If we arent getting ARod back for a while and we are stuck using whatever combo of Stewart, Duplantier, Winfield, and Chamberlain in the 8/9 slot, I would hope that all Schloss does this week is have them all do bunting drills.

If we are going to get a strikeout or weak grounder to SS from them everytime, we may as well try to leg out a damn bunt single, or sacrifice to keep out of the double play.

cause my god, however we mix the last 2 batter spots that stretch is just an absolute gaping hole in the lineup.

I thought A Rod was going to be fully back this week...?

Looks like he may have tweaked it a little this weekend and didn’t try to hit from the right side against a lefty, so must still be bothering him.

Understandable that Dee Kennedy's no longer at Texas, but (as noted way upthread) he's made a real jump at the plate with KSU this spring. Would be nice to have that bat right now.

That graphic is wrong, I don't see Texas A&M.

Get your eyes checked. I see them ranked 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 19 and 21

That could be top overall seed territory.

Regardless of how it looked, they took two of three from Arkansas, and head-to-head results matter. In the grand scheme of things, these rankings don't mean anything though. Postseason seeding will take care of it and the collective résumés will matter more.

RPI powerhouse UTRGV coming to Austin next. Be afraid.

This'll be a really interesting game. I can only assume UTRGV will pull out all the stops to try to win this game. RPI currently at 35, SOS at 94, and only 1-3 vs. Q1.

Texas needs to be ready to play ball.

Guaranteed.  You assume correctly.  We lose Tuesday games because it's their 1's all jacked up like it's their life's goal vs our 2s, 3s, and some 1s getting some "looks" and working on technique.

Yeah, but not only because they're jacked up to play Texas. They're a legitimately good team trying to improve their RPI and this is their final game against a Q1 opponent. That's more why I believe they'll pull out all the stops.

UTRGV has a legit shot at the NCAA tourney. They absolutely should treat this game like it’s do or die, because it is for them.

They beat us last year.  Different Texas team to be sure.

Different team but we have same Tuesday results. Need to take these seriously. Especially against a #35 RPI team.

How much credence is given to these Tuesday games if we are rotating pitchers in and out of the bullpen and they are trotting out multiple starters?

We didn’t lose to Texas State because of our 2s and 3s. Bling and Flores had a no-hitter through 7 innings.

I mean, you want to take them seriously, but you also need to give guys a chance to work stuff out and mix up the lineups.

We pitched more way down bullpen guys in Kentucky than we have against UTSA and SWT. We only gave up 1 earned run to SWT.

A loss doesn’t really hurt Texas as long as we keep winning series in the SEC. However, a win really helps UTRGV.

That was not a good night for me last year. We almost got run ruled by them. I just remember that being the game that caused even the most ardent Pierce supporters to jump ship.
