They just swept Clemson and took 2/3 from Louisville. Not exactly a team you want to match up with in the Supers as the overall #1.

They also just lost to UNCW midweek.

Aggy took 2/3 from Tenn and Pig. Any team that is good enough to host is dangerous. Nothing about NC St, or any other team in the country should give us pause or concern.

No. No AD is leaving one of the two mega conferences in the current setup, and when push comes to shove A&M has no interest playing cold away games in Minneapolis and Piscataway.

Although half of their fan bases would probably be more frightened of a trip to California on a cultural level.

But their AD is Trev Alberts. That negates your well reasoned point above.

My point was that I feel that there are weaker regionals, and as the #1 seed we should match up with those.

Getting maybe the top 2 seed in the field in your regional as the #1 overall seed is cruel. They had TCU hosting a week or two ago.

Yeah, I just think it would make more sense to see DBU or UTSA in that two-spot. I watched their mock selection show on YouTube and they spent a good amount of time debating UCLA and TCU as the final host.

On another note, they are going to have to change the rule eventually that doesn't allow teams from the same conference to be in a regional together. Almost 40% of the field is SEC or ACC teams and those two conferences have 11 of the 16 hosting spots. You really pigeonhole yourself on seeding and where you can send teams when that much of the field of 64 is occupied by two leagues.

Yeah, the rules are out of date.  It's like the bye rule in the CFP round of 12.

Wasn't there mutual interest at the time but what actually happened was Augie told Schloss not to take it because of how dysfunctional the AD was/had been under Patterson and to wait until that was no longer the case? I could have sworn Schloss said that/it came out after he was hired here.

If Texas had replaced Patterson with CDC at the time you can bet Schloss would have come to Texas, then. CDC couldn't save Schloss at TCU after what went down there. Thus, Schloss had to bail to Aggy even though he didn't want to. Then as soon as CDC comes to Texas, it triggered the countdown till they were reunited again as soon as the Texas job became open. CDC didn't do anything to slow down that timeline and then went and made a deal with Schloss that he eagerly agreed to in April of last year, during an Aggy series with Georgia in College Station.

I get that part. Wasn’t trying to argue or anything. I just mean I dunno that any of the 12ish-16ish are that much different from one another

I honestly would be fine with capping the number of teams from one conference. Obviously ACC and SEC are the two best conferences by a large large margin, but I still think you should have to perform in your conference to make the tourney. Having teams that finish 6 games under 500 in their conference make the field, especially as 2 seeds, is just kinda dumb imo.

If the committee gives Texas the same regional that D1 baseball is projecting, that would be criminal.

To give the #1 National Seed the RPI 17 as a 2 seed, the RPI 34 as a 3 seed, and a 4 seed that made it to Omaha 2 years ago and is almost in the RPI top 100 would be unjust to say the least

And this is exactly my objection to the entire concept of Regionality.

Fuck the geographic emphasis. Make it fair.

The process is pretty bastardized.  The RPI is a poor representation.

The ACC as the #2 conference is closer in rating to the Big 12 at #3 than the Big 12 is to the Big 10 at #4.

In checking it out today, UCF is 56th in the RPI.  They are ahead of 5 teams in the Big 12 ahead of them in conference standings.  They are bunched up however.  Three of those teams are 3-4 games ahead in conference.  Houston is 44 spots lower in the RPI but 1 game up.

UCF and BYU are tied for 12th of 14 in the Big 12.  They are 5-1 versus Stetson, #72 in the RPI.

WVU and UCF are a good representation of the RPI east coast circle jerk.

if you are 4/5 games under .500 in conference, you deserve to sit at home.  You probably won’t notice it in the RPI, but it’s possible you may get a Mizzou or some other team that’s tanking it in conference to even get to that point.

It’s basically been 20 years of the ACC/SEC squeezing invites/hosts/seeding.  That’s likely part of the reason FSU has so many CWS appearances and no titles.  Significant favorable matchups until the CWS then wilt against talented teams.

FSU will never leave the state of Florida except for a few conference series, perhaps get some bottom feeder SEC team as a 2, Stetson as a 3 and SWAC team.  They’ll then advance to match up with a “hot” Kentucky in a Super.  A Kentucky that beat Miami that couldn’t handle Stetson in their regular season matchup.  There you go.  You’ve got a rep in the CWS.

Pull that shit for 20 years, add pay for play, and you get the balance you’ve got today.  Surprise.

Yes, it’s a manipulation.  The objective is to make your best effort to get the most 8 deserving to Omaha.

Conferences, and therefore the members therein, do not give a shit about regionality any longer. So why should an ncaa committee?  Attendance will be mostly the host team anyhow.

Because the NCAA cares about costs of transportation

Does the ncaa pay these?

the big boys travel all over anyway. The little guys- they can choose not to participate, they can pay up, or they can take a nice long bus or train.

it’s not fair the other way either. Tcu shouldn’t be stuck playing at #1 instead of 14-16 to save them and their fans from a flight or road trip to Alabama.

Why?  There aren't going to be >16 teams from the same conference in the field.

AND you don't play all 16 teams in the regular season anyway.  Stop ducking opponents, we are going to skull fuck anyone in our path.

Posted (edited)

Just stop letting teams with losing conference records host and the problem is solved. If that means we get more west coast hosts then so be it.
If the 13-17 SEC team is truly that good then they shouldn’t have an issue beating Irvine in Cali.

Yeah well, just win.

Besides I am not going to bitch about Kendall's weird wishcasting. He can say Schloss will be elected Pope if he wants.

There are 16 regional sites. The SEC having 13 teams in and the ACC having 10 while not being able to be in a four team pod with other conference mates forces the committee to purposely mis-seed teams and create random ass matchups. All these rules were created before conference expansion.

They need to change it so that if you don't play a conference team in the regular season, you can be matched up in a regional, if necessary.

Yes the NCAA plays for playoff travel.

The NCAA really fucks over the lower divisions. I believe the "driving" distance anything under 350 miles. In D3 (not sure about D2) any playoffs teams within driving distance are matched up, regardless of ranking, in the first round unless they are in the same conference.  If 1 & 2 are in different conferences and under 350 miles, they play each other in the first round so the NCAA doesn't have to pay for flights.

I don’t understand this sentiment.

Obviously this is some irrelevant projection with 3 weeks to go in the regular season so I’m not going to sit here and wring my hands over it. Just giving my opinion on a hypothetical projection.

I understand keeping the smaller mid majors (like UTRGV, Lamar, Northern Kentucky, FGCU, and the numerous others that make the tournament) in regionals near them to save cost. But TCU?? Ship their ass to Timbuktu.

If that scenario plays out where the final host spot is decided between TCU and UCLA then TCU should get shipped out to LA to settle that debate on the field

Field needs to be seeded 1-64 and then minor tweaks be made when deciding where the UTRGVs of the world are going to be sent.

I get what you are saying. That would be an unfair draw.

But we won the fucking Big 12 in 2023 and those assholes sent us out to be a #2 seed in Miami. Sometimes we are just going to get screwed. We were the defending national champs in 2003 and won the Big 12 tournament and they matched us up with the #1 seed in the Supers.

But in both cases, we just won. So whatever. Bring it on.

Which is why I’m rooting for Mizzou to go 0-30 in conference play and then go on a tear in the SEC tournament and get an automatic bid … and take A&M’s spot in the postseason.

I like the way you think

3-27 in conference play would also work, if you know what I mean.

So where do we stand with the SEC Conf Tourney?  If we win the regular season SEC title, I’m all for starting some combination of Howard/Saunier/Rerick while giving the starting position players 1-2 ABs a game until eliminated. With our luck this year, I can just see us losing 1-2 important arms in that unnecessary tournament.

I haven’t looked, but is the official SEC Champion the winner of the regular season or of the tournament? I seem to remember Big 12 only recognized the tournament.

I’d still give Ruger, Harrison an outing just to maintain their rhythm but I’d probably put them in a 50 pitch limit.

The conf tournament isn't going to do much for us if we win the SEC regular season.

A bunch of single elimination games where every team, even Missouri, gets in don't mean shit.  Lose early and rest before regionals.

What he said.

I want the regular season title. The tourney title would be nice, but whatevs.
