Which may be the most dignified, relatable thing about him.

Little wastoid was a "cinematographer" for Benny Johnson.

His education ends at Souls Harbor Christian Academy in Floriduh.  It has an enrollment of 92 students from K to 12 and is a ministry of a pentecostal (tongues) church of the same name.

Absolute definition of mediocre, or worse, white guy.

Man, one of the chuckle-worthy, yet horrific ironies of this movement, is how they have screamed "NO MORE DEI!  MERIT-BASED HIRING ONLY!".....and have then put on a clinic on how to hire the least-qualified chucklefucks in the history of chucklefuckery.

These assholes would drive a decorated female F-18 pilot out of the Navy to replace her with a pimple-faced virgin who struggled to get past the beginner level of Microsoft's Flight Simulator.  And then declare that a triumph of "merit over DEI."

We all know what "merit" means.

This is a huge part of the authoritarian playbook.  Push people into more and more compromised actions until they fear that if the regime goes down, they do to.  It’d a classic way to get even people who don’t like you to hesitate at taking action to remove you. That’s why the Dems need to anticipate, plan, and communicate accordingly.  You have to give people off-ramps where you can do so.

It was a good article for sure, but I was posting more for the novelty of Bill Kristol finally endorsing the "Abolish ICE" movement

Also why didn't my BSky embed?

This reply covers that pretty well

I miss the good old days when all we had to worry about was a moron adding a journalist to a text thread with a drunk cabinet member sending around war plans.

Rubio is the ONE guy I didn't expect to go full-on fascist with thos regime, bit he's really taken to it with aplomb.

Why? He has been a little bitch his entire career. Biden tried to help him with Ukraine but he defaulted to back to who he really is.

Random Awful Realization of the Day:

All this time, we thought the GOP was using the NRA money and gun lobby to win elections.  In hindsight, that was a secondary benefit.  What they were chiefly doing was making sure that the armed contingent of Americans was firmly in their corner.  These are the people who have wet dreams about taking up arms against a tyrannical government.  How do you create a tyrannical government and not have to face that?  You support their right to bear arms.  You back them, vehemently, so that they come into your fold wholeheartedly, where you can indoctrinate them so completely, over the course of about thirty years, that they won't even be able to tell that you've instituted a tyrannical regime until it's too late.  You subjugate them last.

This hit you now?  They were never about fighting a tyrannical government, it was always about playing with toys.  They just seduced people with the fantasy.   Unfortunately, they were never challenged and broken even after it came out how corrupt they were and how they were just funnelling russian money/bribes.

Yeah, I get all of that.  But it always seemed like it was about buying elections.  I mean, that's what we all thought.

What I'm saying is that I now think this entire fascist gameplan goes back at least 30 years, and a part of it was controlling the gun nuts so completely that they'd never have to worry about them rising up when it got to the final implementation.

It might actually be the longest long game ever played.  I think they knew what the end game would be all the way back when they founded Fox News.

See also: pumping their horde full of every conspiracy theory they could think of so that they'd miss the biggest conspiracy of all right under their noses.  Every accusation really is a confession.

I probably should have worded it more precisely or with more context to mean the "one person chosen as a member of this Cabinet," which still would’ve been wrong, of course, because here we are. It's not like I expected him to be some savior of liberal democracy. But, yeah, you allude to him turning his back on Ukraine, and I had his previously strong support for them in mind when I typed that up. I was just surprised by how really objectively awful his quick embrace of authoritarianism would be. Mea culpa.

They’re not remotely smart enough to hatch a 30 year plan.  All this fell in their lap as America has gotten lazier, fatter, dumber, and browner.

Oh, the people behind the scenes -- the Mnuchins, Millers, Bannons, etc -- are plenty smart enough.

And the GOP has been actively working to make America lazier, fatter, and especially dumber.

I don't believe that they just lucked into this.  I'd rather believe that, honestly, but I can't.

Yep. Trump is just the useful idiot for the puppet masters pulling the strings.

Yes. Saw this article and thought it was interesting.

Peter Marocco, the Trump administration official in charge of dismantling USAID, left a meeting at the White House last week to return to his office at the State Department. But when he arrived, Marocco could not enter the building: security told him he was no longer an employee there, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Word of Marocco’s firing quickly tore through the Republican Party and MAGA ecosystem, startling President Donald Trump’s loyalists who viewed the aide as part of an elite cohort of administration true believers. Loud voices on the right piled on Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accusing him of undermining their disruptive agenda.

Yet Marocco’s abrupt termination, which has not been fully reported until now, was not an impulsive dismissal or a case of Rubio going rogue. This report was based on conversations with five people, including administration officials and allies, all of whom were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive internal matters. Four of the people said Rubio fired Marocco. They gave varying explanations: one administration official said Rubio and others wanted Marocco out due to what they saw as his bulldozer operating style and failure to work effectively with colleagues; others pointed to substantive disagreements between Rubio and Marocco over how to dismantle USAID. Meanwhile, Marocco allies viewed Rubio and his team as insular, controlling and obstructionist to the DOGE agenda ordered by the president.

I don't think it was a grand conspiracy.  But I do think a series of actions allowed for other exploitations to occur which in turn snowballed into Russia/Trump.

I think the country is slowly waking up. But I don’t see one coordinated effort yet. That one group or person. Bernie and AOC are trying I guess, but someone needs to step up. Maybe this gets Van Hollen going. Would prefer someone younger but whatever it takes

The far right christofascists have been planning this since at least Reagan, probably earlier.

One thing that is under-recognized is how much the destruction and cooption of institutions will necessitate the types of purges and investigations that Trump has embarked on in bad faith.  ICE, for instance, is going to need to be dismantled and rebuilt as something else.  Any civil and maybe military officer over a certain rank will need to be closely questioned as to what they did. Any hire or fast riser under DJT— suspect.

Democrats need to start planning ahead, researching what post-Communist nations did in terms of lustration. That’s better than de-Baathification.

And it is going to be so costly.  Part of me wants "the left" to go on a similar wEApoNiZation campaign before returning to normalcy, if it ever regains power.

Yeah, ultimately this whole mess is a coalition of kind of previously disenfranchised outliers whose interests are probably only temporarily aligned.  There have already been some examples of circular firing squads that may get worse.
