What are the odds on Munetaka Murakami being the next 3rd baseman for the Dodgers?

Pretty high. Their working on a $1.5 Billion contract payable through 2075.

You know that contract was a genius idea, but only possible because of Ohtani being Japanese and being raised in an entirely different culture. There is not one single American baseball player that would’ve done that.

Plenty would if they were clearing $100 million annually in endorsements. It is smart business. He is more valuable on a championship team.

i did not realize that this was a fan voted award. that makes a lot more sense.

I didn't recall that either, but it was mentioned in the release I got last night. Can't recall if the silver slugger is a similar vote or not. I don't think so, but can't say for sure without looking it up.

Here's the Silver Slugger release. No mention of a fan vote:

Quote

For the second-consecutive season, Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has been named a winner of the 2025 Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award, as announced by Louisville Slugger.

Bobby Witt Jr.’s 2025 MLB All-Star campaign included 184 hits and 47 doubles which led all Major League players. He hit for an impressive .295 batting average, .852 OPS, and crushed 23 homers as well. Congratulations, Bobby!

Here's the Plat Glove release:

Quote

Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has been named the winner of the 2025 American League Rawlings Platinum Glove Award. This marks Bobby Witt Jr.’s first career Rawlings Platinum Glove Award. Congratulations to our defensive superstar!

The Rawlings Platinum Glove Award honors the best individual defensive performances in both the American League and National League. Winners were chosen by fan voting.

Guessing they would have included the fan vote blurb in the other as well, but who knows.

gambling is going to ruin all sports.

We may as well all watch WWE instead of football or basketball or baseball.

The leagues, and TV networks, went all in on this. There is no way to put the genie back into the bottle.

life changing money, definitely worth it.

payout to the gamblers was 450k total... Clase was making about $5Mm Ortiz about 800k... Makes me wonder if this is more a Dominican Republic good ole boy family ties thing than a more organized approach.

It would be really funny if the batter was also tipping off some gamblers that his first AB would have a swing and miss on the first pitch, and it turns out all these degenerates are betting against each other and ruining each other's schemes.

The Philadelphia Phillies had a strong regular season, but ultimately fell short of the World Series again. The Los Angeles Dodgers' superteam ended up defeating the Phillies in the postseason on their way to another World Series win.

The Dodgers' spending habits have opened up plenty of conversation about competitive balance and a potential salary cap. With the collective bargaining agreement ending after next season, a salary cap discourse may lead to a lockout. Bryce Harper already made his thoughts on a salary cap known when he reportedly got into a verbal altercation with commissioner Rob Manfred in July, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Manfred was visiting with the Phillies as part of an annual visit he hosts with all 30 clubs' players. Harper reportedly told Manfred to "get the (expletive) out of our clubhouse," when Manfred mentioned the idea of a salary cap. Manfred reportedly replied by saying he would not leave and continued the meeting.

Those details from ESPN were the only details on the altercation until a new report from sports agent Allan Walsh. During an appearance on "Agent Provocateur," Walsh reported that, later, a "deputy" of Manfred's allegedly threatened Harper.

"Don't ever say that again to the commissioner," Walsh said, quoting what was allegedly said to Harper. "Don't ever disrespect him again publicly like that. That's how people end up in a ditch."

Harper has always been vocal about his thoughts on controversial aspects of Major League Baseball. The MLB Players Association is against the idea of a salary cap because it can hurt their earnings. MLB is the only major North American professional sports league that does not have a salary cap. If the altercation between Harper and Manfed is any indication. The next CBA negotiations could get very ugly.

Great job, Manfred:

Prominent U.S. sportsbooks are establishing a nationwide $200 betting limit on baseball wagers centered on individual pitches and prohibiting such bets from being included in parlays in an attempt to decrease the incentive for manipulation, Major League Baseball announced Monday.

MLB has been in discussions with its authorized sportsbook partners about potential changes to betting menus and limits since the summer, after unusual wagering was detected on individual pitches by Cleveland Guardians starter Luis Ortiz in a pair of June games.

MLB said reducing the amount bettors can win on such markets will disincentivize attempts at manipulation. Baseball has worked with the sportsbook industry over the past seven years to "uphold our most important priority: protecting the integrity of our games for the fans," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said.

"I commend the industry for working with us to take action on a national solution to address the risks posed by these pitch-level markets, which are particularly vulnerable to integrity concerns," Manfred said, adding that he had received guidance on the issue from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.

DeWine called for a ban on such micro-proposition bets after MLB launched its investigation in July into the suspicious betting activity on Ortiz and Clase.

"By limiting the ability to place large wagers on micro-prop bets, Major League Baseball is taking affirmative steps to protect the integrity of the game and reduce the incentives to participate in improper betting schemes," DeWine said in the release. "I urge other sports leagues to follow Major League Baseball's example with similar action."

DraftKings and FanDuel, the two largest sportsbook operators, said they have agreed to adjust their baseball betting menus to abide by MLB's requests and believe the legal market's ability to detect bad actors will act as a deterrent to combat future issues.

"In collaboration with Major League Baseball, we have adjusted certain bet types to further deter bad actors while helping maintain fairness and trust in the game," a DraftKings spokesperson told ESPN.

FanDuel president Christian Genetski said the legal betting industry will continue to collaborate with sports leagues and take steps to combat corruption.

"This initiative illustrates our unwavering commitment to building a legal and regulated market that roots out abuses by those who seek to undermine fair competition and damage the integrity of the games we love," Genetski said.
