Yup.

Guy named Roland Virella on my HS baseball team sawed off an Easton Black Magic at the handle in one of our district playoff games against New Braunfels Canyon way back in the era of MTV and TRex roaming the planet.

Good times!

Checking the dates, the original Easton aluminum bat came out in 1978.  The Black Magics were newfangled at the time, but we had em, both in school bat bags and as personal bats.

So, I guess they were getting pretty long in the tooth by the mid 80s, which was our time, certainly my time.

And yeah, the couple two or three that broke did so right above the handle.

I would later learn as an engineer that aluminum is highly subject to fatgue and cracking, especially if a tiny defect or a stress riser--like where diameter starts to change rather abruptly.

I remember like in 1992… [snip]…On the Fourth of July they came to Austin and played the Mexican national team at Disch-Falk.

Last night I was wondering why “Disch” got his name first when I flipped the names.

“Falk-Disch”

…and said the names out loud.

Start of the season everyone would be saying…

Falk-Disch it’s cold!

Is weather an issue?  I noticed Kentucky’s home softball game was cancelled.

No, the bad weather was on Boston’s end. Looks like they wanted to get out of Lexington early

Ugh we need Max back.  Do we really not have anyone better on the bench than Stewart?

It’s going to be very interesting to watch.

We have 20 position players right now on the roster. My guess is with a 34 man roster limit that number will go down to 15-16 because teams are going to still feel like they have to hoard pitching if they can.

If you filter out Cunningham and Fien (both likely 1st round picks), our incoming freshman class has 5 position players and 11 pitchers. That is probably how most classes will look moving forward.

Trying to keep Winfield and Jayden off of it

Haha, true. I’m assuming at least Winfield won’t be on the roster next season.

Yuck at that. Waste of a lead off walk. And we aren't making this pitcher work at all.

I will say this season so far we have struggled early in games and haven’t worked a ton of deep counts. We have been great during our 2nd and 3rd times through the order and we have crushed opposing bullpens.

Yeah, inning ended very quickly after that walk was issued. Good opportunity there, but we create a lot of opportunities too.

Yeah, been a bit of pattern. But usually even when we struggle to get hits, we work counts.

Kentucky with a lead off double and fly ball deep to left that advances the runner.

Not great feet from ARod. Threw that like an infielder

Have you watched the throws from our other outfielders? Everyone else would have had to hit a cut off man.

1-0 KY on a single up the middle.

True. Jayden isn’t a D1 baseball player and Winfield appears to a small school level guy.
