Tough for me to believe a guy who is likely to get picked in the top 100 of the MLB draft will turn down a signing bonus of $750K+ to return to school.

Feels like wherever Ford commits to will just be used as leverage.

Will be funny for many reasons to have a mega douche on the team. Schloss going to let him keep the chains?

I think we are already at the point that as long as you stay out of jail, hit .350/15 HR's/play a little D with eye black, chainz, and yes even(gasp) calvary hill tattoos, we are good.

Can wait to win the CWS with a team full of guys that grew out their beards for the post season.

I mean you aren’t wrong. Throw in a solid mullet and pornstache and I’m good to go!

I don’t think they are done adding elsewhere, but you get Tinney and a SS (Becker plz) and things start looking pretty good offensively.

Still interested to see where Rodriguez slots in defensively because Moroknek is for sure in the OF and Freeman seems destined for the OF too considering we have a pretty good second baseman.

I’d say it’s a pretty good sign that Tinney is leaving the cape for a visit. Assumed the ship had sailed there.

Dylan Grego - Ball St SS seems to be one that the whole staff is following. 1.000 ops and .980 fielding % vs meh competition

Wondering if we’d offer Dylan Loy a weekend spot.

With closer settled today we’re looking to be in good shape with plenty of time left

I think the hope is you get Grubbs, Ruger and Harrison back then it opens up a lot of different options.

Imagine a bullpen with Ruger, Grubbs, Burns and Dotson on the backend. We wouldn’t lose many games when winning after 5 or 6 innings.

Are Winfield/Gasparino expected to stick around?

MLB Draft Combine starts today in Phoenix.  Scheduled for MLB Network from 11 AM - 5 PM.

Quote

Local ballplayers will take another step in trying to reach their dreams starting Tuesday when the Major League Baseball Draft Combine begins at Chase Field in Phoenix.

It doesn’t have the fanfare that the NFL or NBA combines do, but it’s still an important piece for potential draftees, allowing front office personnel for MLB clubs to see them up close and talk.

Texas outfielder Max Belyeu, shortstop Jalin Flores and pitcher Ruger Riojas are scheduled to participate in the combine

There are plenty of high school players from around the country who are committed to the Texas Longhorns in the combine. They are:

Kayson Cunningham, SS, SA Johnson, Texas

Robert X. Mitchell, LHP, Prestonwood Christian, Texas

Jack McKernan, LHP, Fort Bend Ridge Point, Texas

Gavin Fien, 3B, Great Oak HS, Calif.

Anthony Pack Jr., CF, Millikan HS, Calif.

Brett Crossland, RHP, Corona Del Sol HS, Calif.

Grayson Boles, RHP, St. Augustine HS, Calif.

Kaleb Rogers, RHP, SA Reagan, Texas

Fien is projected to be the No. 12 overall pick by the Texas Rangers, according to Callis. Cunningham is projected at No. 19 to Baltimore.

The combine runs through June 21 and will be broadcast on the MLB Network. The Nationals have the first pick in the draft

If there are that many recruits interested enough to show up, I'm guessing that more than Fien and Cunningham sign.

Kiley McDaniel produced his latest MLB mock Top 40:

20. Gavin Fein

29. Kayson Cunningham...

Cunningham has been in the teens most of the buildup to this year's draft. This class seems to be pretty heavy with high school shortstops. If he keeps dropping maybe we get him on campus

His dropping will depend on his “number” to sign.  If he is dropping it could be that there is word that he will be too expensive.  NIL is making this new world a three part negotiation instead of two.

I'm looking at that mock draft and it has Gavin Fien at 15 not 20.

Pete Nakos with an update on Eric Becker.

One of the top available college baseball players in the transfer portal, Eric Becker’s recruitment is starting to come into focus. The Virginia shortstop entered the portal shortly after Brian O’Connor accepted the Mississippi State job.

But Becker has not committed to the Bulldogs yet, and a transfer to Starkville is not a done deal, sources have told On3. Already established himself as one of the best hitters in college baseball, he hit .362 as a freshman in 2024 with eight home runs and 46 RBI, slugging .669 with a 1.137 OPS.

In 2025, Becker was even better. He hit .368 on the season, adding nine homers and 52 RBI. The shortstop slugged .617 as a sophomore, with a 1.070 OPS. Becker also hit 21 doubles and has played three of the four positions on the infield in college, with the exclusion of first base.

From speaking to sources, Mississippi State is squarely in the mix for Eric Becker. But Texas has also emerged as a legitimate contender. A return to Virginia is another option, as Chris Pollard‘s staff has been in contact and is making an effort to get Becker to withdraw from the portal and return to Charlottesville.

Florida had expressed interest in Becker, but the Gators do not appear to be trending in the same way as Mississippi State, Texas or Virginia. To this point, O’Connor has added several Virginia transfers, including left-handed pitcher Tomas Valincius, outfielder James Nunnallee, utility player Chone James and outfielder Aidan Teel.
