This movie was unapologetically corny and optimistic and for our timeline that's refreshing and novel.

Mostly agree-we saw it this morning with the kids and I appreciated that it was sufficiently different from previous takes-this was the first in which Superman as a son seemed to be the main theme (certainly that’s part of some of the previous efforts but doesn’t really drive the plot).

Also glad to see a Superman film go weird and have a sense of humor after the po-faced Returns and Snyder versions.  Also glad that Gunn didn’t overly mine All-Star Superman, the best version of him ever written but doesn’t fit an introductory story.

Worst part for me was Hoult, who I like in other things but insufficiently lacking in menace here (instead he comes off as petulant).  Compare this to Josh Hartnett in Trap, and who does a great job of playing calculating and a little scary without getting hammy.

This is a tough movie to review. It was all over the place. I'm not a James Gunn fan so I knew I was probably in trouble going in, but this was less Gunn-ish than I thought it would be. Way too much loud, dumb, CGI all over the place for my tastes. Great casting all around, although Lex was probably the low point. Didn't care for him shouting out Battleship coordinates as a way to defeat fucking Superman. Corenswet was probably the second-best live action Superman ever. Very likable, unlike Henry Cavill.

Overall I'd recommend it, although I doubt I'll ever watch it again. Will watch a sequel.

I liked Cavill a lot at the time, but I don’t think he could play this version nearly so well as Corenswet did.

We’re talking matters of degree, but also Corenswet is just less pretty than Routh, Reeves, and Cavill, and I think that works better for a Superman who’s meant to be a little closer to people and a little messy.

I rewatched the film and I definitely enjoyed it more. Went up a point in my book. I’m curious if the original cut of this film was closer to 150mins. Even after a 2nd watch, there’s stuff with no context littered across the film. “Don’t tell him anything Superman, it’s okay, I have no family”. That hit me the 2nd time around, but I couldn’t help but feel his character had some scenes axed.

I'm really hoping for an adaptation or amalgamation of All-Star at some point in the DCU. It's just such a fucking great story

I think Supergirl is where he's really going to get weirder since that should be a mostly cosmic/off world type movie and Lobo is a character in it. I think her being a party girl will fall very much in line with previous Gunn mythology.

It devolved into a bunch of cgi vomit in the 3rd act but that's all franchise blockbusters these days

that was pretty wild 😮

i had read/knew nothing going in...no idea it would be so directly allegorical.

i was quite amused lol

Corenswet looks too much like Cavill. or maybe they both just look like Superman🤔 he sure has a nice ass 😎

DC continues to be heavier and darker than Marvel, which is probably why i prefer it.

entertaining.

Good movie. Enjoyed it more than I expected. Solid acting all around for the most part. Loved the dog, which I went in expecting to find too cheesy to stand. Actual characters you could root for. Had its issues, but my favorite Superman movie.
