Mostly agree-we saw it this morning with the kids and I appreciated that it was sufficiently different from previous takes-this was the first in which Superman as a son seemed to be the main theme (certainly that’s part of some of the previous efforts but doesn’t really drive the plot).  
 

Also glad to see a Superman film go weird and have a sense of humor after the po-faced Returns and Snyder versions.  Also glad that Gunn didn’t overly mine All-Star Superman, the best version of him ever written but doesn’t fit an introductory story.  
 

Worst part for me was Hoult, who I like in other things but insufficiently lacking in menace here (instead he comes off as petulant).  Compare this to Josh Hartnett in Trap, and who does a great job of playing calculating and a little scary without getting hammy.
