I’m traveling so won’t see it and will have to avoid spoilers until two weeks from now.

The trades seem to call it a B+ with cinematography and particularly the Giacchino score as highlights and an overly safe script as holding it back from ranking with the best Marvel movies.

What say you?

This was a lot of fun. To cooters point, my 13 year old loved it, my 10 year old enjoyed it but it was a bit slow for him at times. Really enjoyed the cast.  My only complaint is the thing looked and moved a bit too much like smart hulk.

Just got back. Watched it in 4DX and it definitely made viewing it a whole bunch of fun. I don’t like every movie in this format, but they nailed it with this one. I had the same feeling leaving this movie that I did after Superman. It made me feel good and hopeful. More of these movies from Marvel and DC please. Just a great film. Loved Pascal’s character. Nothing bad to say about any of them.

I’d also like The Silver Surfer to teach me a bit about being a better surfer when she has some free time.

Totally forgot that we unexpectedly got the new Avatar trailer in front of F4. Looks like more of the same overblown CGI that’ll be forgotten an hour after it ends.

I know I’ll go to see it just because I like the Avatar world and whatnot. Aren’t they supposed to have some kind of Avatar VR world or something? I feel like I heard that mentioned at some point.

Saw the preview a couple of times this week and it looks fun but…..

Silver Surfer might the dumbest fucking villain ever created.

Really stupid.

Spoiler

The story made sense in the context of why. I didn’t really think at any point that Silver Surfer was a villain. It felt like she was doing something because she was forced to. Also it was nice to see Julia Garner. She’s an actress I really enjoy watching since I first saw her in Ozark. She had a fun movie 3 years or so ago about a small hotel/bar in Australia that was cool.

Going this Sunday at Alamo. Much like Superman, it's another comic book franchise I was never really a fan of. Hoping like Superman, I'm entertained.

I think you will be. I never was a Superman fan as a kid, but I loved the newest movie. I like the retro futurist vibe they used for this one. Kinda neat to see honestly.

Just got done with it.

The Good: the retro feel, the musical score. Both were very well done. Pascal and Kirby were solid actors in their roles. Other two were just OK.

The Bad: because they didn’t want to do the origin story for the Nth time, it required a 10 minute exposition dump off the top. That was tedious and not super effective. They chose Galactus as the big bad and he just doesn’t translate well to screen: a deity-level neigh invulnerable being the size of a skyscraper with power levels ranging from “can destroy star systems” on the low end to “kills Eternals and comp able to Infinity” on the high end.

The Ugly: even for a Marvel movie this story had a usually high amount of “turn your brain off” level plot holes. To hit just a few: 9 month pregnant women goes to space, time dilation effect of FTL travel ignored while at the same time used to trap the Silver Surfer, weakass explanation for Johnny even being able to use his flame power inside a spacesuit full of oxygen, “let’s turn off and conserve power so we can use it later” …power doesn’t work that way.

And it’s a minor bit but it stretches belief to have a reality where we have flying cars and teleportation but still use cassette tape drives and CRT tube displays. And we launch our space shuttle from downtown NYC. But, but, but the comics! Yeah, change the dumb shit.

This movie is really good. I hope this plus Thunderbolts means we're finally out of the MCU doldrums.

Yeah I really liked it
