We need a running back with breakaway speed that isnt a small framed guy. Someone that can run between tackles, similar to Haynes that transferred from Bama to Michigan. We don’t have a single back like that on the roster.

Some of us made asses of ourselves pointing this out numerous times in the offseason. Too bad Sark didn’t.

Not that anyone needs proof to know you are wrong, but this video is full of plus 50 yard runs where he is outrunning guys that have angles on him. Please shut the fuck up

I like the wildcat plays he ran on the goalline, but doing that against 5A San Antonio suburbs competition and SEC D-lines & Front 7's will be a different experience for Terry.

I watched him play in high school. He doesn’t have any football speed at all, he plays big and slow.

Seems like he sucks. Probably should transfer to St. Ed's while he can still redshirt.

just looked and supposedly he ran a 10.8 100 meter. That would imply around a 4.45-4.5 40 time

No doubt, I’m not saying he’s Derrick Henry. Just pointing out that claiming he has no football speed and plays slow is stupid

Agreed

Like most tall guys, he needs to run with more lean and lower pads thru the LOS. He doesn't appear to be shifty, but potentially and one-cut and go type.

I question your intelligence all the time. Between you and I on this site, you may inhale your own farts, squat to pee, and wipe back to front, but pretending to be anything other than a dimwit is what is truly laughable.

Wiping back to front (on first stroke only, with proper termination) can save time and paper.

I just like to help people.

Yeah, I expect Nibblet to get a few more touches a game. Clark feels like nothing more than a blocking/receiving back right now.

James Simon, time to shine.

Simon's style running between the tackles reminds me of Emmitt Smith... great vision with an ability to avoid big hits.

I kept on about Justice Haynes, got shot down time and again, and now that you brought up Ahmad Hardy (I believe it was you) we could have easily landed one or the other, and both have breakaway speed, and here we are. Both are tough mf'ers who run through tackles, and neither have fumbling issues. Haynes in particular has never fumbled (at least at the college level). Hardy fumbled once against Bama, and has 5 total in his career.

I love Wisner, but he's slow as shit, but quick. We need breakaway speed, and Simon has that, but he doesn't know shit from fuck yet. You can see the talent, but he runs into the back of our own o-line. Hopefully he figures it out.

Negligence. Criminal. Laxity. Squandered. Deplorable. A fucking travesty.

I am going to die on this fucking hill, and my last words will be "I told all y'all motherfuckers Sark needed to go get Justice Haynes. Fuck the haters."

The whiplash on this board is crazy. Also makes it a great read. We’re a very young team that will develop into a monster after each game. If we stay healthy we’ll be a very tough out at the end of season. All these young guys need are game reps and time to develop. Watch some other teams every once in a while. College football is wide open and we have a good of a chance as most teams to make a run. All teams have warts. Try  to enjoy the season. Cheers

He has those really long legs and strides, so it looks like he's going more slowly than he actually is.

That said, there's some great stuff there. Here's two of my favorites:

This might be what @Helobious is seeing, right here. But you can also tell a lot from it that, despite that, there's a star in the making here.

Just amazing. I have no words to describe this. I mean, a picture/video is worth a thousand words.

Ahmad Hardy is the bigger miss. I remember watching him vs Texas last year and he looked good, despite not a lot room to run. That was guy Texas was familiar with and probably didnt cost a ton.

Well yes don't you know those just grow on trees on a farm just south of Muleshoe; they got stray 220-lb guys who run a 4.3 just wandering around lost, looking for scholarships. you can just pick em up right off the ground

shame the head coach of the University of Texas doesn't know shit about those... and why is it so hard to find a coach who does?

Seriously, over the past three games, it seems like the offense has improved literally every quarter. Just slightly better each time. And in the second quarter against OU, it's like a switch was flipped, and things started to work.

They just needed (and continue to need) real live game snaps.

We're bringing back nearly everybody next year. THAT'S going to be a fun offense to watch. As is, it's getting fun watching the team grow up.

Yeah, he's a stud. I would have been happier if either one, tbh. My fixation on Haynes is purely he's played in the SEC, showed out against SEC competitors, and had an absurd 5.7 ypc playing backup with 7 TD's. That's pretty much it. You could see what he would becone already, whereas Hardy, playing lower-level, looked awesome, but I followed Haynes' recruitment, so I knew a lot more bout him.

Dude, we already named two that Sark could have done even the slightest bit of work on, yet decided to let Mizzou and Michigan reap the rewards. No, they don't grow on trees, but in one portal cycle you had TWO he could have gone after since

1) Baxter had multiple knee ligament tears, not even a timetable, and here we are without him (still MIA after first 3 games)

2) Wisner is slow as shit. He's quick, but has zero breakaway speed.

3) Clark, is a freshman recovering from an achilles tear. Came back sooner than expected, looks meh, still catching up to the speed of the game

4) Gibson fumbling every 5 snaps (now gone, anyway)

5) Simon and Stewart (who even knows if Stewart wll be here next year, and he is RSing, anyway)

We have one upperclassman who is quick but slow, an upperclassmen made of glass, a frosh recovered from a serious injury of his own with his Achilles, looks mid, and two true frosh, one of which is talented, but runs into his own guys, and the other who is...who knows? Not contributing, that's for sure.

So, as a HC, do you A) go look for portal backs that can contribute if not outright start/share carries, or do you B) just tell yourself everything is fine while you're sitting at a table while your mansion burns down around you because the last portal back we got was last minute lost an eye in fall practice.

In an extremely rare instance, we had two absolute studs available for our room, and Sark just turned a blind eye. That's beyond criminal. That's not how you manage your roster, and especially a room in dire need of a playmaker. One chance and he fucking stepped on rakes and fell face first into solidified concrete.

OL, WR, QB, RB.  All either underdeveloped or lacking in talent.

What if we trot out 6 tight ends?

Baxter is kirk Johnson. Jordan Whittington 2.0

hopefully he sticks around long enough that his last year is healthy and he absolutely balls out like Whittington did.  But he’s gotten up limping every time he’s touched a football   In a texas uniform.

This comes across as hyperbole but might actually be factually correct. I've grown tired of hoping the guy can come back and play. Then again, I felt that way about Jordan Shipley and Jordan Whittington, too.

I remember saying the same everytime Whitt fell down there was a collective gasp about him Getting hurt. He wanted to quit and give up. But came back played himself into a roster in the nfl and was a leader and selfless teammate that paved the way.  That’s my only hope left for Baxter now

We have played 6 games and still have not played one offensive snap with every 2 deep offensive skill player healthy, i.e. Wisner, Baxter, Moore, Wingo, Livingstone, Mosley, Endries, and Washington.

Whittington was also offered a substantial NIL package to return for another year, after he'd already decided to retire.

I can't speak to whether or not Baxter will be offered similar if he decides to transfer or give it up.

Clark can cut on a dime, but like someone else pointed out, the dude cuts INTO trouble all the time. He needs to run with more power too. Hell, every RB in the room needs to run with more power.

Dont have to be Ricky/Earl, but generally falling forward when going down adds a yard to nearly every run. See Benson, Cedric

(says the fluffy slow fuck in between sets at the gym)

Herman could recruit the shit out of RBs.

Stan Drayton could recruit the shit out of RBs, he nearly pulled Jahmyr Gibbs too

Whittington is such a great story. So much potential and he showed great maturity throughout the rehab process. It really does sound like Baxter is cut from similar fabric mentally, just a matter of his body rebounding. I don't think anyone knows with these athletes, some people can heal and some people either cant heal their injury or it leads to weakness in another area that sidelines them further.

I don't think anyone has the full picture with Baxter yet, but it seems obvious we cant count on him being who we recruited. I think its a guarantee we go big game hunting for a rb in the portal for next season.

Posted

I also think the people on here who have noticed a lack of leadership in the locker room are correct, and I think Baxter is the guy thats missing. If he hadnt been injured and was out doing his thing, I think the offense as a whole would be more cohesive not just from his production but from his attitude and presence in the huddle and on the field. Him on the sidelines is a major loss for Sark.

I think with wisner kinda showing out and growing in the role you are spot on. I think they responded when he was on the field.

Hindsight is great for those of y’all flexing your previous thoughts on an RB transfer this past offseason. But when you were saying that you had no idea what we had in that room as you hadn’t seen half of them play, hence being mocked at the time. Sark had seen them though so he definitely fucked up.

I always wondered about him when he jumped from Waco to DeSoto. Thats a big jump and he was a star for DeSoto. Feels like we used to miss those guys consistently. Now he's a bully in the RRS.
