feels like this deserves its own thread. stephen miller went on tv yesterday and told us that donald trump as complete authoritative power. this should be the biggest story in America right now, but it isn’t. i don’t understand how this is allowed to happen.

Why would this be a story?

Do you know how many people dont even know who this fucking dweeb is?

Everyone's too busy with making sure American consumers continue spending like drunken sailors to avoid a complete economic collapse to give two shits about what's actually happening.

Which is getting harder and harder to do with everything so cheap now.  Have you seen the price of gas?  and eggs??  and the drug companies are literally now paying people when they get a prescription.  Except for tylenol - it causes artisticness and extra limbs to grow on people.  Have you ever seen the limb of a giant sequoia?  I haven't, but they say my arms are as big as one.  Thank you for you attention to my ramblings this matter.   DJT

This should be a massive story. The way Miller froze up, like Moscow Mitch having an on-camera stroke, said it all. He was like, “Fuck — didn’t mean to say that. I believe it but shouldn’t have said the quiet part out loud.”

This should be a big story, and there are 5+ things daily that the Trump administration does that would be national headlines 15 years ago

We are so, so fucked.

Gator Alcatraz, mass deportations, everything. It's all failed massively at anything but being mean and making headlines.

When something actually works I'll get fucking worried, nothing has. This ice shit isn't working, the national guard in LA didn't work. Nothing is working its all massive failure after another.

Nothing “works” until it does. God help us if something finally works because then it will all be over. So we try and keep bringing things to “normie’s” attention in an ongoing effort to shine a light on the cockroaches in the kitchen in the middle of the night.

The problem is that the courts are too slow to handle their fascist schemes. They can do damage and destroy public services without legal backing. They simply go and do it, and are shielded by the sheer audacity of it all.

It's the classic fascist playbook man. There are hundreds of missing persons from their Florida concentration camp. It's not even a year into the administration. You shouldn't focus on where they're blocked, but on the damage being wrought on an international scale. We will have no allies except for other dictators and strong men

There is the other side of exceptional still. They are trying to get rid of those, but when you do that you race against collapse which is what we are seeing play out now.

Call me crazy, but two weekends of ads during football games featuring the most brutal ICE clips with the Star Spangled Banner playing in the background could essentially cripple the entire operation.

I mean maybe, but only because 100 milion of our fellow citizens would be spewing giz all over their computers and TVs.  Throw in a couple of gays getting beat to death and 1/3 of country will be such in complete ecstasy they may not be able to get out of bed on Monday which may collapse the economy.   If you are trying to imply the image of a bunch of browns being beaten, raped or killed would spur some outrage in this country....nah.

I had the odd thought…

In some ways you can argue once things have been attempted to be equalized and brought together in equity, there are no pressure valves (historically there have been abused and taken advantage groups that allow for the pressure release) and the whole engine was always destined to blow without a way to manage the full scale tension of everything being equal.

It’s a flaw in the design of the machine more than anything. Our society literally wasn’t built for equality and equity and inclusion and fairness (white male landowners out front shoulda told you).

We actually probably need a new model and to redesign the hardware from first principles rather than keep trying to configure and customize the system we have that isn’t built for the purpose we are trying to bend it towards.

What does "working" mean in this context? The administration is successfully proving everyday that they can do just about anything with impunity. I bet they're even a little surprised about the lack of pushback and how utterly hapless Congress and the judicial is. It's only going to get worse--they're only going to get bolder--yet their approval is unlikely to ever fall below Biden's. Seems like it's working just fine.

They are deporting less people than Obama or Biden, by a significant amount.

They are unable to actually open or operate any of these facilities.

The national guard and ice deployments are huge disasters with no measurable outcomes except news clicks and views.

Stop acting like anything they are doing is working outside of ragebait.

That not to say it's fine, it's to say that the thought that Stephen Miller saying something so fucking stupid on TV and then it being a non story is not surprising because normies aren't okay with any of this shit and it's the reason it's not working.

Activists aren't keeping all this shit from happening they are important to to counter balance flooding of the zone with messaging, but it's the normies who are reacting poorly and flat out being non participatory that's making this fail.

Detaining US Citizens for days without access to a lawyer or phone call. Arresting democrats for oversight allowed by statute. Usurping Congressional power of the purse by refusing appropriated funds. Deporting journalists for press coverage. Deporting students for speech. Sending the fucking military into unwilling cities to quell American protests.

I'm not minimizing anything. I'm saying they suck at it.

Its absolutely fucked up what they are doing, but its not working. People aren't buying in. That is GOOD news.

My original premise is no one gives a shit who Stephen Miller is, and they don't and they shouldn't. As soon as he becomes someone that's important that's when you know things are actually getting WORSE.

Again, what does working mean to you? When has reality and data actually mattered to them? It's all a show of power and testing what they can get away with. So far, the answer is pretty much anything.

Oh, she's right.  Authority delegated by Congress is not plenary, by definition.  Theoretically, at least, Congress can revoke it or place limitations on it and it is therefore not plenary.

It would not surprise me years from now that we find out Stephen Miller was the puppet master behind all of Trump's fascist policy decisions. That he is the Grima Wormtongue in the "meetings" with DJT.

Trump is a piece of shit narcissist that doesn't really care about anyone or anything besides himself. His bootlickers are spineless cowards. But Stephen Miller is a legitimate, dangerous psychopath. Everyone should know who he is.

Not only that they're trying to elicit a violent reaction from normies, so they can use it as justification for a more violent crackdown. They're building up the size of ICE to one of the world's largest militaries for a reason.

Stephen Miller can't even get the shit he wants done WITH trump. Imagine a world without him, any political person will just run him out of town so fast his head will spin.

I get it these are dangerous times and things are not good, but stop acting like this guy is somebody because CNN will have him on or because he's all that's left in this collapsing orbit where bondi is having meltdowns and nothing is going right. We are a bubble pop away from regaining sanity.

He's a real testament to the short attention span of Americans. Dude being outed as a white supremacist during Trump's first term was a big news story for a couple weeks and then everyone just forgot immediately.

You seem to think the recognizability of a chief presidential advisor and strategist is the key factor when he announces the president of the US has absolute power.

The importance of a news story is founded neither in that factor nor if the readership are ignorant sybarites who don't care.

The magnitude of declaring a republic essentially dead or one big step closer to having the plug pulled is not just a huge story for the news, it's historic.

It's the biggest story our news outlets would ever cover if they embraced the big picture. They don't, generally. It's the same ol' segmented approach using the templates. On the day the President of the United States assembled all of the nation's flag officers to announce they'd be invading US cities for political reasons, I was listening to NPR All Things Considered. They had a solid interview with a congresswoman veteran. They reported a part of the content of the speeches. Then, because it's their template, the time for that segment ran out. Their next story was about a science breakthrough.

Okay, thanks for that explanation of the world catching fire, in our next segment we talk about Halloween (scary music in back, hosts fake laugh) and so it goes. They have little editorial understanding of their jobs. They're all putting on a show. And, always, pander to your audience and block them from seeing anything too terribly disturbing. You might block them from becoming Treymfiant!

The second biggest story? The American people tamely bow to tyranny.

You may want to brush up on how sloppy, aimless, and dumb early Nazis were. It took a bit to get the wheels churning, after "normies" just accepted that this was the new normal now, and competent people, looking out for self-preservation, were absorbed into key positions. I tend to avoid the Nazi comparisons, but, holy shit, the parallels are there.

If there was anything resembling an actual opposition or any heinous act that could drop administration approval comfortably below 40%, we'd be more optimistic.
