It's a really nice classic college town.  I don't know anything about Starkville, but when Texas was in the Big 12 it seemed like 90% of UT fans who came to games there (and especially the ones who posted about it here) really enjoyed it.

Iowa's much wealthier than Mississippi (for now) and that difference alone matters.

Ames, while pretty low on my Big XII cities, is notably better than Starkville.

Part of my point* is that Mississippi State brings nothing to the table. They are in a shit location, with shit academics, with shit athletic history, with a shit brand. All of those schools you named bring at least something to the table, and many of them bring a lot to the table.

"Illinois, Syracuse, Minnesota, Maryland, Rutgers, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan st"

NW is a great academic school. The rest are mostly decent to good, with Syracuse ranking the lowest at 75, a full 133 spots ahead of Mississippi State. NW is in Chicago. It's an awesome away game to visit if you like a cool big city, murder rate notwithstanding. MSU, Minny, Syracuse, they all have solid to excellent football histories. Minny is in a big city too, albeit not a visit I would call "cool", but I've only visited the twin cities for business.

I could get excited about a few of those trips, but I can extol the virtues of some or all parts of those schools and programs with a straight face compared to MSU.

*Another part of my point was that running over an also-ran like Mississippi State also gave me the chance to take potshots at multiple other shitheel schools that I don't like or respect in the original post.

Hey, look, I like to take CFB road trips. I was supposed to go to UK and Georgia this year but life stuff intervened. Been on 30+ visits away from Austin either way. That said, I don't have Starkville in my future plans unless I have a kid that becomes a starting QB there or something crazy.

Minneapolis/St Paul is fantastic on many fronts, but U of M is a shitty college sports experience.  The stadium is pretty small, the campus is very urban, and the Gophers merely get a shrug from the locals.

Those are incredible schools and really fucking cool college towns.

And awful college sports experiences.  Like half empty stadiums with no tailgate scene?  Boy, have you hit the jack pot with that group.

Northwestern is fucking awesome. Beautiful campus right by the lake. 20 minutes to downtown Chicago.

Can confirm.  Daughter is there for grad school, so I have visited several times.  It's a very nice campus.  And hey, they beat Penn State this year!

I will say that when you are tailgating before hand they are all very proud to show off their cowbells, how they are painted and the leather holsters they have made for them.

It would be a very cool tradition if not for the actual clanga.

Be glad they didn't settle on vuvuzelas

Wow. I did not know that. It's 2025 and you still have dry towns. My mind can't even comprehend that, especially when you have two P4/5 universities and the state is small.

In the 90's you were not allowed to buy cold beer in Starkville. Only room temp. I guess they finally figured out that college students knew that refrigerators existed.

I called them the Bullbitches this morning and as lame as that is, it's totally fitting.

I looked at flights in and they are still sub 1k this late I thought about going for a hot second and then realized what the fuck would I do in Starkville? What is there to do there? I searched and it is fucking wild how they can even call that a college town.

Yes, but you can always just go hang out in the large city next door -*checks notes*-  ...Jackson.

Seems a few of you don't remember that after Jackie Sherrill left aigy he went to MSU and made them a better team in the '91-92 timeframe.
I'm always up for us to deliver a beatdown on MSU.

I was there for that ‘99 Cotton Bowl beat down we delivered.
We owed Miss St and cheating Jackie big time. Very satisfying.

Cowbells are absolutely better than vuvuzelas and that is and EXTREMELY low bar.

Some of you youngsters may be unaware and the old timers may have forgotten, but there were plenty of cowbells rung for Texas in the 60’s and 70’s.

The SEC is getting bottom heavy and while tradition is grand and everything it doesn't pay bills when it comes time for TV contracts.  If you look at the conference today for football MSST just doesn't belong (like a few, cough cough, others) and collectively they need to go.

Blue Bloods:
bama
Georgia
Texas

On the Cusp/Good enough:
LSU
Auburn
ou
Tennessee
Florida

Necessary Evil:
Miss
pig
SC
Kentucky

Doesn't belong:
MSST
aggy
vandy
Mizz

Never put it past those guys for making discoveries. Next thing you know, they'll find out what a wine cooling unit is

It exists to beat the everloving fuck out of the Texas Longhorns and make the smoke of Sark to the NFL a "better hope it isn't bullshit"...at least for Sark and his buddy Sexton.

I don't care what deficiencies may exist on the O-line or who is out with injury on defense, you do not lose to fucking Mississippi State with the supposed talent on our roster. You just don't.
