I love Wisner, but if Baxter hadn’t been made of glass he likely would have been a backup his entire time here. He was fun when he was on! But he was also very streaky.

Simon? Who the fuck is that?

He showed potential but body needs maturity.

Our RB coach didn’t help.

Good luck to Wisner. We appreciated his time here. Don’t forget, this is a business now. College football of the past is sadly GONE.

That is funny.

It was actually a serious question. I’ve looked on the depth charts and he isn’t anywhere. If he is on the roster, but not in the top 4-5 RBs, I can’t believe people have hope for him to be our running back.

#31 on the roster.

#9 ranked RB in the nation his sr year.

A consensus four-star prospect per ESPN, On3, Rivals and 247Sports … rated as the No. 6 running back recruit nationally and No. 3 overall prospect in Louisiana by Rivals … ranked as the No. 9 running back prospect in the nation and No. 9 overall recruit in Louisiana by 247 … tabbed No. 12 running back recruit in the country and No. 9 overall prospect in Louisiana by On3 … recorded 149 carries for 1,280 yards (8.6 ypc) and 16 touchdowns as a senior …

you did not look too deeply. He played 3 games and had 29 carries for 122 yards (4.21 per 2nd to only Wisner among RBs). I assume the 3 games was to keep his redshirt.

Led the team in yards vs UTEP/ 17 carries 67 yards. I believe it was reported that he had something like 70 yards after contact in that game. Lot of fans wanted to see him get a chance vs legit competition, but that staff thought differently.

His running style reminds me of Priest Holmes at Texas. Not comparing out put, just what he look like while running vs what I remember of Priest.

maybe we get a dude who can also run for yardage against teams that aren’t OU or Aggy.

This too.

i wish he would have been realistic in his income ask…. Instead he asked for the moon.

i seriously doubt he gets anywhere near that amount in the portal.

all Wisner did is get Baugh a significant bump whether its Texas or another school

Interesting how much credit people are giving the staff here considering the total absolute roster failures coming into 25..

I'll still consider this a huge blow until they show me who is coming in.

Perhaps it just means the staff will be more aggressive with Caleb Hawkins. Maybe reach out to Antwan Raymond.

Then I guess you’ll be sad till January since they can’t “ bring anyone in”  until then. Does the season start tomorrow? Relax.

Didn’t know you could redshirt twice. Maybe you need to look deeper.

I wonder why he didn’t crack the top 5 RBs?

Nvm, apparently the two you’d want (C Slaughter and LT Barber) are RS SRs headed to the league.

Lol chill man. RB was our top target coming into the offseason and still is. Us not ponying up 1 million for Wisner shows our confidence in finding an RB1 in the portal.

This bowl is going to be interesting. Clark and Simon are going to have their job interviews.

We may see a target in Jordan Marshall from Michigan. I would love to see him in a Texas uniform next year. 85.5 PFF grade. No idea if he is looking around, but I would check the tires there.

aw man love me some wisner. dude has heart and that is very much needed in a locker room. he is the rival killer, and yes he was limited as a traditional RB in this scheme. but he is an excellent 3rd down back and makes swings 20 yard plays. see the huge play against the paperclips in the3rd i believe.

Just look at the top SEC rushers this year.

1. Ahmad Hardy- transfer from Louisiana-Monroe

2. Kewan Lacy- transfer from Mizzu

3. Baugh

4. Mike Washington- transfer New Mexico State

5. Desean Bishop

6. Cobb

7. Pavia- transfer

8. Wisner

9. Frazier

10. Seth McGowan- tranfer New Mexico State

You also have Fluff Bothwell #12. transfer South Alabama

There is lot of good RBs that come available. I am probably in the minority, but I am not someone that wants to see Texas in a bidding war for Baugh.

Difficult for me.  He was the heart and soul of this team imo.  Arguably won the OU game for us this year with his ability to make the first man miss.  I don't take players like that for granted.

He'll be missed.

Greens is right for once, Baxter never really flashed when healthy.  Seemingly good dude but didn’t have anything special.

I would have thought he'd be the premier back for next year.  Maybe doesn't believe he can keep the job.  In the meantime, all we can do is wish him good luck and keep our fingers crossed for RB help.

Jacksonville State's Cam Cook, who was undoubtedly the best running back at the G5 level and probably a top 5 overall back in all of college football, recently became available.

Despite the rumors swirling about the Longhorns being locked-in on Florida's Jadan Baugh if he enters, Cook could completely cause Steve Sarkisian and Co. to forget about the SEC stud. Cook is much smaller than Baugh at 5'11", 200 lbs., but he has elite athleticism and patience at the line of scrimmage. Very few ball-carriers in football right now show the type of contact balance that Cook does on a consistent basis, which allows him to bounce off would-be tacklers left and right.

While I agree that he showed up big against OU and Aggy and undoubtedly had a lot of heart and grit (I hate seeing him leave to). We also have to face some realities... He didnt show up in every game for us, just some of them. And you cant deny that he is an RB2 that was demanding high level RB1 money. He made a bad decision here. He isnt going to make it in the league for very long and he just gave up the alumni/universtiy connections that couldve landed him a nice job long term just so that he can chase a single year payday. His move was shortsighted and yes, he is replaceable.

If Wisner is our premier back we arent winning the national title. And next year, we are all in on winning the championship.

I mean I love it but this is the kind of take where mid season we hear: “the staff thought he could develop into a 3 down SEC back but was surprised he was overwhelmed by linesbackers in pass pro.”

Bobby spouting off about the $1mm figure publicly without any context at all is kind of a bitch move, IMO. Just say the sides were pretty far apart and decided to go their separate ways and that’s that. Sometimes it really seems like Bobby takes some of this shit too personally.

Asking for $1m despite having 1,700 career rushing yards is also bitchmade

Overpaying for your homegrown, overrated (by yourself) talent is the epitome of a Jerry Jones move. Thus, we shouldn’t do it.

This may all be whispers and rumors, but what is our budget for the roster? You typically don’t devote too much roster resources to the RBs in the NFL.

It is a bitch move unless he’s trying to put out what kind of number isn’t going to happen at that position.

They have likely zeroed in on Cam Cook. Round Rock native, ran for almost 1,600 yards at JSU last year.

College basketball has already lost me because of the constant movement/roster instability.  I'm about to check out on football. I'll still pay attention to the results and probably check in on the games but as far as spending money to travel, on apparel etc .... I'm out.  This is just too much for me.

I'll probably even start spending more time with my loved ones.

I tend to agree with this idea, but I think this is about ROC and wins above replacement. Fans tend to think the back-ups will come in the next year and be better than the outgoing starters. It is a classic fan mistake. It is bit different in this portal world. There are positions that are a premium and hard to replace (LT/DT/Edge). RB tends to be one of the easiest positions to find quality. For $1 million you should be able to find two quality RBs. There are always risks, but finding quality RBs and WRs in the portal is not like trying to solve Fermat's last theorem.

I think the dramatic increase in transfer starter snaps for Texas in 2026 has more to do with staff misevaluations and recruiting missies than it does NIL/CFB Roster Management. This is what failure looks like. Lots of turnover and patching of issues. A player like Tre leaving does leave a bad taste in your mouth though. What a dog. Absolute nails. Legendary Longhorn, but he also has to maximize his opportunities.

Hopefully Sark and CDC understands that the offseason is more important than the season itself and can’t take it for granted (if the Sark M.I.A. rumors are indeed true).

How many of these plays are ‘wow, that’s a 5 star’?

As I said, he was a good player before his injury. He wasn't the best running back ever. But he was a good player that flashed a lot of potential. He could cut, he was physical, and he ran through contact. He had more broken tackles in the first few plays in this video than he has since his injury. He just isn't the same player, and that sucks for him.

the bolded was definitely not true for Baxter.  His biggest flaw was his poor contact balance and lack of toughness, which led to an inability to break tackles commensurate with his measurables.

Texas will be better at the RB position next year, undoubtedly.  I think it is extremely likely that Texas will be significantly better at RB next year.  I will fondly remember Wisner for what he did, but he was miscast as a lead back and Baxter was a miss.
