Sink that fucker.

Why bother?  Let them keep sinking their available funds into a black hole that provides them no tactical or strategic value.  I say let the Russians spend ALL their money on aircraft carriers that don't work, air bases above the Arctic Circle, and designing new medals for Heroes of the Motherland.  Every ruble it spends on that shit is a ruble not spent on fresh artillery barrels.

Transferring Archers to Ukraine is awesome - those things are amazing.

Film of one firing off three shots and getting back on the road before the first round lands.  It's also got some kind of anti-air or anti-personnel turret over the main cab that is constantly scanning.

That's just straight up pornography there.  Thank you, Sweden, for being our friend.

We need to get a ton of those things over to Ukraine ASAP. We made almost 6000 of them over the years, so you know we have to have some knocking around that are still usable and won’t be missed from wherever the hell they are storing them.  They use about 1/3 the fuel of our Abrams tanks and have a pretty decent range. And if you don’t stick three or four guys in the back, you can add more tow missiles. I’m pretty sure it comes with two launchers, and so there’s two in any event.

Don’t get me wrong no way this is a bad ass Abrams with all the fire power that comes with, but we’ve got some big ass transport planes that can fly a lot of those sumbitches over to Ukraine and they could be destroying Russian tanks in a week.

Some chatter that the Brits are weighing sending some Challenger 2 MBTs to Ukraine. They don’t have a lot of them and so it would be mostly symbolic— part of a deal cooked up with us and the Poles and the French to prod Germany into signing off on Polish Leopards as a donation in bigger numbers. Take away the German “we won’t go first” talking point.

Scholz keeps walking into this, footdragging and then doing the thing he didn’t want to do anyway with none of the benefits of being a leader.

If they send just 1 tank, the floodgates will open for other countries to send more. This is just one of those decision by paralysis moments and as soon as one tank is delivered, the floodgates will open for more.

Isn’t the issue related to the support of MBTs? Not some ideological barrier.

It’s the logistical tail that comes with the Abrams specifically, and that is a U.S. only concern. The U.S. and others have or are providing plenty of T-72s from various stocks.

It’s a Germany specific hang-up about being the first to provide “Western” MBTs.  The main concern over the Abrams is its turbine maintenance, the Leopards are diesel just like the T-72.

I suppose I didn't really consider supplying Russian crap that they already have much of a stretch.   But the Abrams I thought required a whole new support system they didn't have in place.  I don't know anything about the Leopard or comparative tanks, I just ass-u-me'd they all came with their own quirks and requirements.   I didn't know it would/could be plug-and-play.   Thanks.

I think this ignores his domestic politics and anti-militarism in Germany post WWII. I think Germany has to drag its feet regarding build up or escalation

We have over 2,000 Bradleys just sitting in long-term storage, thanks to the drawdown after the first Gulf War when we had a much larger military, as well as a change to more wheeled vehicles in Afghanistan and Iraq.  And we are replacing some of the ones we have in active service with an upgraded Bradley as well as some other systems.  So yeah, we have them in spades.

And Ukrainian mechanics are already getting experience with the Bradley thanks to the M109s they are currently field.

And they can be reloaded in the field - the video below mentions it.

This is taken out of the documentary about the full battle of 73 Easting in '91, and focuses on the Bradleys vs T-72s.

It's like 956 said - Ukraine has plenty of diesel mechanics who could quickly get up to speed with some of the European MBTs.

The Abrams is certainly awesome, but it's also the product of an American way of thinking about warfare and how it would play out, and was/is really good for a larger military that can handle the logistics chain (and that includes handling them when they break down and need to be moved).  We need to focus on getting things to Ukraine that they could better handle and support, even if we know the Abrams would be amazing and arguably in its element.

We have a few thousand older Abrams in long-term storage, seems like we should be willing to try and get them out and running and into Europe, and free up countries to release MBTs better suited to what the Ukrainians can easily handle.
