December 25, 2025Dec 25 Luna figured out which present was hers and spent most of last night hanging out by the tree looking for a chance to steal it. Much happiness after opening.
December 26, 2025Dec 26 We got the bigger dogs some seemingly indestructible toys, including the "Bison Horn" a/k/a the toy of controversy for the year. Always a plus. Last seen, Maeby was trying to bury it while Archie looked on confused. Also, this: /and yes, we gave her a bone, but she doesn't do toys. Edited December 26, 2025Dec 26 by dcbc
December 26, 2025Dec 26 So, my across the street neighbors have abandoned their house and left their dogs in the backyard. One female pit/mix that is just insanely sweet, and a HUUUUGE German Shepherd almost pup (about 3 y/o) that is just beautiful and also so friendly. Me and the neighbor lady (no pics she's nice you animals) have been feeding and watering them when we can, and Animal Control brings them a big bag of kibble when they visit. I hate to think they will end up in county and destroyed. I can't take them because that is theft and we're on the line with trespassing just feeding them. Such a huge shitty situation.

I can't imagine just abandoning my dog. Some days my dog is the only thing keeping me going. I love big shepherds, and it wouldn't be theft. It would be a rescue.

Is it a renter? Do you know who owns the home? If not, you can look it up on the county assessor’s website. You could likely work with a rescue to get permission from the owner to rescue the dogs. December 27, 2025Dec 27 They are considered property in Texas (i've been through this with animal control) and I can't take them. OTOH if someone opened the fence and they got loose I could shelter them. Everything is awful.
December 27, 2025Dec 27 It is a criminal offense; call the police and report it. Texas Penal Code 42.092 (b) (3)(b) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly:(3) fails unreasonably to provide necessary food, water, care, or shelter for an animal in the person's custody; What city is it in? The SPCA has excellent animal cruelty investigators and will partner with law enforcement to resolve the situation. Go to the website for the local SPCA chapter, and they will have information on how to file a report. For example, here is a link to the Houston SPCA for reporting animal cruelty.https://houstonspca.org/animal-cruelty-rescue-services/cruelty-investigation/#If it is in Houston, DM me the address, and I'll go get them. Fuck these people, let them try to put me in jail for it. I'll put the whole system on trial.
December 27, 2025Dec 27 Thanks, no, EPTX ~800 miles away. The sheriffs have been here and Animal Control are actually LEOs, so the county knows what is up. It always about resources, though. There are so many stray dogs along the border there is only so much they can do. And these 2 are relatively safe and relatively comfortable.OTOH if anyone wants to come load them up I will see nothing.

December 29, 2025Dec 29 I am worried my Trixie might have torn her ACL today. She is a not quite 2 year old 85ish pound Pyrenese/Pittie mix and had the zoomies tearing around the backyard in the snow and came up with a rear back leg limp. Drugged up and resting now. Anyone go through an ACL repair with their pooch? Thankfully I do have Lemonade insurance.

If you’ve been doing that then just wander over and leave the gate open one night, or get a trustworthy kid to do it. Leave some really fragrant treats outside if they are especially reluctant to come out. Take the dogs when they “escape”, next day wander over and knock on the door. Leave a note that you are watching the dogs and will take them to a shelter, leave a number. Go to a trustworthy a shelter, tell them the story: dogs got out, seemed they had been abandoned, house seemed empty. You want to adopt them after the waiting period, fill out the form then and there. Go get the dogs for adoption after they are not picked up and you and the neighbor lady can then either take them or figure out a good rehome situation. EP LEO are not going to be interested in cracking the case of the dogs that you tried to return after they got out and followed proper waiting times after their owners just left them for SPCA to come feed, assuming these assholes ever come back and want them.

December 31, 2025Dec 31 My wife and Chester (the lab) have a morning ritual the ends in them cuddling together on a chair in the living room. Today Bruno-- who generally avoids full body contact, preferring to be pet from a distance-- climbed in her lap before Chester could take his rightful position. He was so sad.
