Kevin getting some good Shadow moments in while he’s still with us. I really think he’s probably running low on time with how much strength he’s lost in his back. But we’ll see. So glad he’s been able to be a kid dog for a bit and pass the baton to the little hooman.

Welp, I know my dog. He peed in the house a bunch of times while I was at work yesterday and then fell down the stairs today. Took him to the vet to see if it was discospondolytis flaring back up and instead it’s anemia most likely related to the tumors they discovered in his chest, which would explain some of the weird coughing I’ve heard him do. I think what I’m hearing from the vet is that the most aggressive course of action might give him another month, so…. he’s stable right now at home and he’s getting a frozen peanut butter kong as soon as I put the baby down.

look at this dipshit still wanting to jump on the guy coming up to the door. I always joked he’d finally slow down when he died, and that’s about right for Kevin9963B2B8-7785-48FE-AA6E-8026BDD11026.thumb.jpeg.fdc316eb0ecaab486904b4b3fb5436ce.jpeg

Blue has ripped down the branches of some young trees every year to the point where they now look like shrubs. More branches grow, they fill out, then she cuts them down. Finally figured out her plan...

Butt scratching trees...

Pippa update - just had her first oncology visit today.  Confirmed the adenocarcinoma, and like Penelope's pup, we're starting off on Palladia.  Reading the literature, it's supposed to be for mast cell tumors, but our oncology vet (again like Penelope) said he had really good success on adenocarcinomas.

Surgery isn't really an option for where it is, and radiation at this point seems still a bit severe (worried about side effects).  So - 2 weeks of Palladia to see how she handles it, another checkup, then 4 weeks of Palladia and a checkup.  If the mass is the same or shrinking, then we may have given Pippa an extension on life.  Oncologist said he had a similar terrier with the same thing and got 18 months additional.  At this point, I'd be THRILLED just getting to the end of this year, and we'll talk more after that.

Fingers crossed and Horns Up for Pips.

You got this, Pippa.

Well, Gracie tweaked her hip trying to jump up on the bed (I think). Just got back from the ER vet. Thankfully, no breaks. Just soft tissue. Meds ahoy!

Beagle?

Yup. Was on a work trip doing some overlanding stuff and one of the employees at the course brought her out. Name was Clementine, which I thought was just perfect for that sweet girl. My wife told me to just scoop her up and bring her home with me.

So did you?  Is she a part of the Surly family now?

Your neighbors are going to love you. Beagles and bassets...fuckers bark just to hear themselves. Ask me how I know.

Post walk cool down. There's a floor fan just out of frame aimed at her ass.

We've started our quick half mile morning and 2.5 mile run/walk/sniff night time excursion schedule for the summer.

She actually does quite well in the heat, but there's an acclimation period.

Whatever keeps you from getting the swamp ass.

@Celery Man I’m so sorry bud. Peace and love. Glad your little one got to meet and learn from Kevin, if only for a short while.

🤘❤️Good boy Kevin

always loved that Kevin had a normal human name.

really sorry Celery.   Good boy Kevin

Why why why do I get emotional over other people’s (that I don’t know irl) dogs?  Fuckin allergies.

Thinking back to when we had to put my Kia girl down I still get that tight chest feeling.

Dogs are magic.

Seven dogs at the moment. They seem to be enjoying themselves.

Human names for dogs are great.  I've always been a fan of Steve.

I had a cat named Bob.  My uncle Bob didn't think it was as funny as I did.

Oh no, sorry to hear about Kevin. He was one of my favorite Surly pets. He had his foibles what with his wanting to kill delivery people but he was a good boy overall. And so photogenic. RIP Kevin. You were a good one.

I just realized that I have two dogs with people names. Bonnie and Clyde.

Oh man that was the worst day ever. I still think he thought the fedex guy was going for my wife, not that that’s much for an excuse. Never had him loose when a stranger was at the door after that again.

Kevin was named after the bird from Up. Completely independently, before I met either of them, my wife named our other dog Sully after Monsters, Inc

Wow. Kind of like that movie where the guy had a dog named Willie Nelson and meets a lady with a dog named Dolly Parton. That is just kismit, man.

What are you supposed to do when you’ve always been a big dog man? Boxers. Dalmatians.

Then you have an extremely mobile life.  You have two little girls who fall asleep dreaming of dogs.  You look for all the excuses.  You lay out the criteria.  Have to fly in cabin. No shedding. Etc.

They wear you down, is what they do. And you actually are glad they did.  Welcome home, Apollo. Name courtesy of one of said little girls.

Is it the camera or has Luna bulked up?

Here she is a couple.weeks after I got her 4.5 years ago at 60 pounds. She bulked up to 75 pounds and grew 5 inches taller over the next year. She's stayed at 75 since then.

Short answer is, no. In the previous pic she is turning making her look fat.

Years ago, the ex and I had a parakeet named Fred. He could wolf whistle and do the beginning notes of "the great white north".  He'd do it for attention when you walked into the room. Funny ass bird.  After about 2 years with us, I came home one day and found him facedown in his feeding dish. RIP Fred.

He was weak and stupid, he shouldn't have eaten that key.
