Texas Football 2025 Fall Camp - Kicking the Sonofabitch In
closetojumping replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
Update for today from Bobby with some interesting takes on the younger players. ***** Texas will hold its fourth practice of training camp later today. It’s scheduled to begin at 6:30pm, just like last night. The first two practices were held in the mid-afternoon of the Texas heat. They’re meant to get a team prepared for the worst conditions. The team got a real feel for that. One Texas player was severely dehydrated and subsequently missed the next couple of practices (yes, I know who it is, but, no, I’m not going to name them). Bottom line, the message from coaches is clear: stay hydrated, get your rest and treat your body right because this is an extremely taxing sport, especially in the middle of summer. ** There’s a little positive chatter behind the scenes on recruiting. Texas is gaining some confidence on a pair of players currently committed elsewhere. ** There are so many talented young players on this roster, a few of them are already looking to leapfrog talented veterans or at least solidify a spot in the rotation either as a starter or key back-up. Those players (so far) include: - WR Daylon McCutcheon - TE Emaree Winston - OL Nick Brooks - DT Josiah Sharma - DE Lance Jackson - NB Graceson Littleton Others to watch for: - WR Michael Terry - TE Nick Townsend - OL Jackson Christian - DE-DT Justus Terry - CB Kade Phillips* - S Jonah Williams* * Neither Phillips nor Williams practiced the first two days. But both have been received positive reviews through summer training, enough so to merit inclusion on this list. ** KJ Lacey, Jamie Ffrench, Kaliq Lockett, Jordan Coleman, Zelus Hicks, Myron Charles, and Bo Barnes all look the part early but are not situated to make a major positional impact early. However, Hicks and Barnes could absolutely be major contributors on special teams. Lockett might also get some early run there, too. He was surprisingly good as a gunner and blocker in early punting practice reps. ** We’ll keep our ears to the ground for more practice notes for you. Hook’Em! -
Saw “Eddington” Monday afternoon. A complete and total waste of 2 1/2 hours. I would have left at the 20 minute mark, but glanced at my wife (no pics) and thought she was engrossed-turns out she was asleep. I can’t even describe what a bad film this was, and I’ve seen “Billy the Kid Meets Dracula.” Wow. Like a product of a sophomore in film school.

Lost in the Arch vs Quinn's wheels discussion was Kurt Bohls asking DeAndre Moore how he would describe Arch's balls. It's at 13 seconds. -

Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread

God damn, I had to put our yellow lab down yesterday. I idolized my father but somehow I think I shed a few more tears for the dog? I think it’s because I know how deeply it affected my kids. Thanks Dad, I have a much greater appreciation for all the shit you had to do that I never gave a second thought about. RIP Kodi, you were such a sweet guy. -
Entertaining episode, but 100% pre planned made for TV. I’m not even sure the cut on the guy’s head was real.

My weeds are looking fantastic right now. I can only get to the garden to do any work on weekends, and these stupid grasses that pop up can grow quite a bit in 5 days.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for golfers who desire to improve but haven’t been able to do it. Here’s how. I’ve been playing golf for 50 years. My first lesson was with Harvey Penick and Ben Crenshaw at Mo Willie. However, over the years I only played a few times a year, went to the range a few times a year, and took a few lessons here and there sporadically. As a result I always struggled. In my 40’s I finally got down to a single digit handicap. However I had grooved a flawed swing. So I could never improve from that. Then, in 2015, I experienced a number of injuries that kept me out of the game until 2021. Once back, I still didn’t improve and had lost my single digit handicap. It was bad. Breaking 100 became a challenge. Finally, in 2024, about a year ago, I finally said “enough”. I was either going to fix my game once and for all, or quit. So I tore my swing down to the beginning, and began taking a few lessons from various folks in Austin. None of the instructors helped much at all. That was really frustrating. But in parallel I did two things. I joined an online golf service to finally really learn about the golf swing. And I joined an indoor golf simulator service to get feedback from a Trackman device on my swing. I also started playing more regularly, once or twice a week. Last week I finally broke 80 for the first time in a long time, and followed that up with a 39 on 9. My handicap has dropped from 20 to 12 and I’m on my way to an 8 or better. I’m confident I’ll get there. So what have been the keys so far? 1. Learn everything you can yourself about the golf swing. Amazingly over 50 years I never really understood what causes hooks, slices, etc. I didn’t understand how the wrists should move in the swing. I didn’t understand swing planes. I was an idiot. I relied on instructors, but most instructors aren’t very good. 2. Practice, obviously, but get feedback from a simulator. It will tell you things an instructor alone can’t. 3. Work on all four parts of the game, or one part will kill your rounds: putting, chipping, irons, woods. 4. Be patient. I still have WTF moments and completely lose my swing every few days. I’ll go to the range and hit like a beginner. While I understand the golf swing much better, I still can’t diagnose which of the 40 different swing factors has gone wrong to ruin my swing on any given day. I hope to have that figured out in the next few months, though. That’s the last key piece. Because when I’m on, I am on! I just can’t figure out how to get back on when I’m off. It’s 1.2 steps forward and one step back. Good Luck!
